- We created our slogan A dog is for life, not just for Christmas® over 40 years ago to remind people to only get a dog when they are truly ready for the lifelong commitment.
Owning a dog is a wonderful experience bringing years of companionship, fun and love. But it doesn’t always turn out as expected. We’re here to look after dogs that need us, which may sadly be the case for many dogs after Christmas is over. We’ll love and care for those dogs until they find their forever home; but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we can support more people in responsible dog adoption so that all dogs’ forever homes aren’t so far away.

You can see the tears in the dogs eyes. Thats what breaks me, we dont deserve dogs, no dog should go through this.
Same, in fact, you can see the hurt in both the puppet's eyes when he is about to get swept off the table, and the real dogs eyes at the end.😢 Such a heart-wrenching advert, but I understand why it needed to be done. 😢😢
AwesomeHyperSonic547 true, you could see he was hurt and you could also see the dog was shaking and after it got swept away you could hear a really faint echo of a whimper.
@@sgnjamcitydevteam6913 Yes, I noticed that. :( It's like Corky's (the dog) saying "please don't this to me, I love you" and crying when he is swept off. Very upsetting. :'(

To be fair no animal should go through this whether it be dog, cat, horse or whatever.
I cried at this. How anyone could throw away such beautiful creatures is beyond me. They are gentle souls who deserve love. So glad this is out there to say it is not cool to disown your dog in such a cruel manner.
People get them without thinking because "awww cute" and then don't realise the long-term consequences.

Very well thought out advert, it made me stop in my tracks and watch it. Better than all these other Christmas adverts that are constantly pushed in our faces to buy, buy, buy like it's the end of the World.

Animals deserve better than us.
God dammit 😭 this is why my girlfriend and I save as many animals as possible. Been going strong for 17 years now and will never quit. These animals are too good for us. We don't deserve them, but they deserve our utmost care and protection.

Done it again Dog's Trust! EVERY ad you make, has me crying and this was no exception. I even saw it coming, but still cried. Urgh just the action of sweeping the dog into the rubbish, kills me! Thank you for clearing up after the morons get fed up with the best treasure they ever had in their sorry little lives. Every dog is precious and worth loving. Best wishes to you all
This video made me cry, they beat the record, managed to make me cry under a minute wow...... reminds me of my friend....
My friend had a dog out of the blue, their parents were like do you want a dog? And they got it same day, they apparently always wanted a dog but they never did research or anything, and they bought the dog and once that dog was a year and month years old they sold it.... they didn’t like their dog anymore, in fact the daughter told me she didn’t like dogs and wanted a cat.... their dog peed and pooed everywhere in their house and was food aggressive, they clearly didn’t bother to train her, it’s cruel that they bought the dog and sold it later, they really should’ve thought about it, it was rude and lazy of them, I’m really angry about it too, They got their dog a couple of weeks before mine and their dog didn’t know how to even sit yet, my dog learnt how to sit first day he came home, we had been watching lots of dog videos for 6 years before getting a dog (well when I say we, I mean me and my siblings) my dog is an adorable well trained puppy and that poor dog probable will cry hoping their owner comes home but no, they abandoned you, lost hope, they didn’t understand, it was impulsive.
God will you bless every beautiful kind human taking care of and sharing their lives with a beautiful dog. Indeed any animal. ♡

Sobbing my heart out .. I just lost my little dog he was 15 and its killing me .. I just think how much I loved him and protected him .. how people can just abandon their dog is one thing I will never understand! .. love you my teddy boy always x And for all the dogs who are abandoned I pray you all get loving homes xxx

And this is why I have 13 dogs 2 cats and 3 guinea pigs 😍 such a great organisation and so true a dog is for life.... my one lad is 16 I have had him since he was 8 weeks old, he’s been poorly the last few months and I will be with him when he leaves us 😥hopefully he’ll stay with me forever I can’t bear to think about it😭

I have sponsored three dogs from Dogs Trust.
The first was Charlie, a collie cross from Evesham. He was too boisterous (if I’m right) to be rehomed easily. I seem to remember hearing that a Dogs Trust lady I met seemed to remember that his man couldn’t keep him due to work change. He was cared for at the centre and loved by his carer. He eventually had to be put down due to a skin condition.
The next was Chance, another collie cross, whom I chose because he shared the name with my favourite character from one of my favourite movies at the time (homeward bound). He eventually got adopted by his carer.
The next was another Charlie, another collie mix. Then, the sponsorship ran out. ☹️
I also sponsored a greyhound from Forever Hounds Trust, whilst it was still called Greyhound Rescue Southwest. He eventually died. ☹️ Sad that dogs and other animals often don’t tend to live as long as we do (except animals like tortoises, and there is this sea creature that can live forever).
If I got a dog for Christmas, I would treat it as if I got it at any different time if the year. I got my puppy during Lockdown, and I love her to bits. I still would have loved her the same if I got her for Christmas.
When I first saw this, I first thought it was an advert for Marks and Spencer's but it turned out to be a dog's trust PIF, very good dog's trust and you used cheerful music.
We are great fans of Dogs Trust, they are so awesome in their care for homeless dogs not so much a charity more of a mission to help the homeless pupster who like this advert are really thrown out with the post Christmas trash, what you see in this advert happens every year to puppies and store bought pets they truly become unwanted pets, if it wasn't for Dogs Trust and other rescue charities, these poor souls would be left to roam the streets as in other countries, when you see this advert remember this is happening ever year to 100s of dog at who become unwanted gifts. This Christmas is you are thinking of offering a pet a home think very carefully, its a huge responsibility, Do consider fostering this gives you a great chance to take in a pet and see how they will fit into your life style as they are being fostered to you there is no permanent commitment, you will be helping to relieve the pressure to the shelter on their busiest intake time of year, many foster families become "foster fails" which means the family loves their ward so much they adopt it, Dogs Trust are always very happy to help and advise you and do their very best to match the pupster with their perfect human, this is why their moto is A DOG ID FOR LIFE NOT JUST CHRISTMAS. We love Dogs Trust their adverts are always spot on as well as being quite brilliant yet simple in their message, again an other brilliant well done advert, you No1 paw fans Pippin & Ollie
I actually carnt stand the thoret of this ever happening and i just saw it on the tv 📺 and i was just sat on the sofa and it came on and i just started to cry 😢
My dog was given to the dogs trust not abandoned as such but he was an 8 year old rottweiler. Literally the best dog ever. Such a sweet boy and passed away a couple of months ago. I had the best year of my life with him. Teach your kids about second chances, seeing deeper and caring this year. There are so many good dogs there or at local shelters.
Omg I'm in tears. Lost my furbaby at the beginning of October aged 15 and just adopted my new furbaby 6 months old. This is her first Christmas and I can't wait to spoil her rotten. Wtf is wrong with people who think they can treat a precious animal like a piece of trash. Makes me so mad.

I’m watching this in my Business Studies class and I’m bawling.
The dog in the advert is absolutely beautiful and it’s cruel that this happens a lot, especially after Christmas.
People buy dogs and they don’t realise how much had work they are and end up throwing them out. This leads to loads of Animal Rescue Centre’s being full and some of the new ones that come in end up being put to sleep because there’s no room.
If you’re thinking of getting a dog this Christmas, make sure you give it all of the love and affection and care it deserves. Dogs are our friends, not presents.

I'm a teacher and my students were studying ads and one came to me after watching this and asked if I could make a class rule that everybody had to adopt dogs from shelters...

Just seen this for the first time on Xmas day 2019. Absolutely brilliant. It was jolly and festive but had a meaningful message and hit home the reason why dogs are for life and not just for Xmas. Full marks to the ad campaign creators.

This is so sad. People need to have a dog for life. Just because it isn’t Christmas and it isn’t a puppy anymore doesn’t mean that you get rid of it. Such a lovely advert.

This Christmas is going to be my first Christmas without my big beautiful chocolate Labrador. {We lost him over the summer to liver failure} I always cry over these kinds of ads but this one just hit way worse :(

Just heartbreaking I cried when I was told about this advert and cried more actually watching it dogs are too precious souls to just discard and throughout the world in some countries they suffer terrible brutality. I hope this advert helps stop people from buying these wonderful animals without thinking it through.

This is terrible. It needs to be brought home how cruel people are and how much need there is for the Dog's Trust.

Awwww why do people do this? Getting a dog as a present and getting rid of it when you've gone off them. If you buy dog, it's a friend for life who is like family. If you aren't prepared to do that don't just excite them then return them like they don't matter. These poor baby's don't deserve us :( ❤️

If you get a pet, you are committing to taking care of it for life. It just pisses me off that people think animals are just props they can throw away once they get bored of them. They have feelings and it just hurts to know people don’t seem to care about that.

I love my pets so this advert makes me sad.
Makes me feel bad about all of the livestock that will be slaughtered over the holiday so that we can eat them that no one will even give a thought to, their emotions have just as much worth as the doggos
