  • A brief review of the Smith Mainline helmet with mips and Poc Coron Air Spin helmet. I was looking for a helmet with good ventilation for south Florida trails. I hope you all enjoy the review. #smithmainline #PursueYourThrill #poc #mtb #ridemtb

    ⚠️If anyone's wondering, I've found an easy solution to the MIPS noise that works perfectly without making the MIPS less affective. I don't want to type out multiple paragraphs right now, but if anyone wants to know just ask and I'll try and explain it as best as possible

    The SmithOptic Mainline has safety systems... MIPS, Koroyd and it is also NAT-8776 Dutch certified which means it passed the Ebike safety rating for up to 28mph impact.. Europe requires this highest level..
    You would have to get a HEAVY DOT / SNELL rated Motorcycle helmet to get a better level if impact protection.. Or be willing to drop $599 for a LIGHT carbon fiber motorcycle helmet.. And then you sacrifice the ventilation of the Mainline.
    POC are very narrow.. Anyone with a wide head won't be able to pull it on..And the POC is not NTA-8776 certified. POC may look pretty, but Pretty doesn't cut it when you need impact protection..

    Both solid products, loved their comfort. However, After testing both I went with a Fox Proframe, since I felt the POC was too heavy and the d-ring from the Smith killed it for me, which is unfortunate, bc I really liked it

      I do like the proframe as well, I just couldn’t get my hands on one at the time. The d ring is actually not that bad after you get use to it. Proframe is a great helmet!

    Great video ! I’ve been debating on which one to get but the vents on the smith basically won the argument. I cant do hot helmets 😂

      Thanks!! I completely agree. It still warm on hot days since it is a full face but once you get moving it feels great. It’s got a smaller profile as well so it won’t make your head look huge 👍

    If you have your mainline strapped up and push your hand on bottom of chin bar towards sky, does it come up your face AT ALL? Mine does but not sure if it’s normal, fits snug every other way

    How does the profile compare? I like the POC, but am concerned it may be a little bobbleheadish compared to the Mainline. Would've been good to see them on with a 360 degree view.

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  3 роки тому

      The smith mainline has a smaller overall profile. I can I agree that while the poc might protect better and take more hits, it is bigger and does have that bobble head look unless you have a bigger framed body.

    Looks like the mainline has a lot of sharp edges near the back. Have you found that worrying, from a "catching in the ground and adding rotation to a crash" stand point?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  2 роки тому

      Haven’t had any major crashes but I haven’t had any concern with it catching and rotating because of the vents or the back of the helmet. A lot of the smooth ventless helmets don’t offer enough airflow for my local trails. It’s a great helmet even if it doesn’t have a traditional clasp.

    What are your thoughts on the Smith helmet now after 6 month? Did you manage to fix the noise with felt pads?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938

      I tried the soft side of the velcro, reduced it a small amount.

    I have to return POC because I was too heavy and very snug it made me feel dizzy lol went with Smith instead

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  2 роки тому

      Lol I know the feeling, the poc is great for down hill with wind running through it. The smith for the first few weeks would run hot when I was stopped and the double d ring was a pain to get off. But after a few weeks it was easy for me to take off. I’ll be doing the follow up video here in the next week or two👍🎉

    Did you find the cheek pads on the POC to squeeze your cheeks a bit more than normal compared to other full-face helmets?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  2 роки тому

      They did give a snug secure fit. I’m sure that after wearing the helmet the pads will soften up a bit.

    Can you add a light to it?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  3 роки тому +1

      You would have to modify a GoPro helmet mount with your choice of light. The poc has mesh in the vents and the mainline has the koroyd mesh that prevent normal light mounts with bungee style mounts.

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  2 роки тому +2

      Update, I have mounted my light under the visor and I move the visor up and it works fine for me. I use the micro lumina 900 (Amazon) with the light adapter for GoPro mount (Best Tek Bike Light Lumina Adapter Mount Compatible with NiteRider)

    Ride Dirty Mtb, which is more comfortable?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  2 роки тому +1

      I prefer the smith. It’s ventilation is way better which I turn make it not comfortable. The physical size of the smith is slightly smaller the then the poc. Keep in mind it will still get warm as it’s a full face.

    • @ridedirtymtb9938

      I still recommend this helmet to everyone I meet on the trail that’s looking for a full face. Only down fall is that it’s $300 and it’s a double d ring strap( I’ve gotten pretty quick at removing the strap)

    Have you had issues with the noise complaints I’ve read in reviews? How annoying is it?

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  3 роки тому

      The helmet does make noise unfortunately. I get annoyed by rattles and squeaks on my bike and mips noise doesn’t bother me. I will be putting small felt pads between the mips and koroyd and I’ll be going over that in my follow up review👍. The fit and ventilation out balance the mips noise.

    • @ridedirtymtb9938
      @ridedirtymtb9938  3 роки тому

      One thing I for got to mention is the overall profile of the helmet is smaller compared to most which is nice if your doing xc runs and don’t want a bigger style helmet with similar protection.
