- The Hida (ひだ, Hida) is a limited express train service operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) along the Takayama Main Line in central Japan since 1958, which connects Nagoya and Takayama in just over 2 hours, Osaka and Takayama in 4 hours 15 minutes and Nagoya and Toyama in 4 hours. The Hida serves various locations en route such as Gifu and Gero. The best feature for many of Limited Express Hida trains is the window that wraps around the cockpit offering un-interrupted views of the tracks in front of behind the train.
All trains are formed of KiHa 85 diesel multiple unit (DMU) sets, usually as 3-, 4-, 6-, or 7-car formations, or occasionally 10-car formations, especially during busy seasons.
New HC85 series hybrid trains are planned to be introduced on the service in 2022.

素晴らしい。最高です。2018年ごろに高山まで旅したのを思い出します。その頃はコロナも無く、観光客で賑わっていました。また以前のように戻って欲しいです。
五十数年前、名古屋ー富山間を「急行のりくら」で随分往復しました。
この動画を偶然見つけ、昔を思い出しました。

長いので何回かに分けて視聴。少しずつ雪国へと様相が変わっていくのが面白い。鉄道ファンならずとも魅力ある動画です。
美しい雪景色はこの時期、このタイミングならではと思いますが、エンジン音が素晴らしいですね。レールのジョイント音との組み合わせも、加減速時のうなり音も好きです

I like coming back to these takayama line trips every so often and watching them, they are so relaxing. Plus I notice something new every time ! When I first watched I thought the tunnel numbering was commonplace but after having watched many different lines it seems this practice is either not nearly as easy to see or is not done. I really like it though.

Lots of snow along the way from Nagoya to Toyama. I assume it's quite rare, correct me if I'm wrong, although there are a lot of mountains along the line and they usually get a lot of snow fall. Either way, the trip was very beautiful with all that snow. Lots of palm trees covered in snow along the line, it looked kinda funny. 名古屋市内も微量の積雪があったんですね。
途中、ほとんど雪が残っていない地域（45:41あたりとか）もあったようですが、富山へ近づくにつれ積雪量が次第に増えていく様子が見れて良かったです！

懐かしいです。まだ雪があった頃ですね。名古屋から飛騨古川まで乗ってましたね。今現在は飛騨古川在住ですが、今年は雪多くて苦労しました。最寄りは杉崎駅です。

素晴らしい。当時住んでいた渋谷区から山手線で東京駅、東海道新幹線で名古屋、名古屋駅の高山線ホームで立ち食いきしめんを食べワイドビューひだで高山駅へ。高山駅では地下通路に降り、登るとすぐ左手が出口改札口でした。所用で真夏も真冬もお邪魔したのを思い出しながら拝見しています。
当時私は20代半ば、限りなく昔の様な2〜3年前の様な。＊実際は50年近く前。

Either I'm wrong, or in the country side, the tracks have heaps of fish plates! OR the rails are very short! Or is due to extreme different weather conditions?
When this train reverses 20 minutes to get to the right track in Nagoya, is the driver sitting in the cab during this maneuver, I mean, is there another driver at the other cab of the train who is taking care of the reversing? And when the job is done, he just hops out of the cab? Might sound a little silly question lol. Anyways, I've seen a few videos of this particular line before and It's always very beautiful and scenery, esp the beautiful colored rivers, stunning mountain scenery and idyllic villages along the way. 昨日特急ひだのウィキペディアを見たらなんと１２月から３号がHC85に置き換わると知ってビックリしました。😲まさか富山行きがしかも私が何回も乗ってる３号とは意外でしたね。実は私が３号に初めて乗ったのは２６年前の1996年8月でした。その後は３年前の2019年9月、最近は今年の6月人生初の高山城跡＆高山陣屋見に行った時に乗ったのでかれこれ3回です。私の住んでる岡山からはやっぱ3号が乗りやすいです。近い内に人生初のグリーン車に乗って富山まで行く予定です。
46:50 (on the right) so many videos like this along the route there are many place where a switch on the end of a passing track or something just leads for a few years and then into a long bed of gravel. Is that an emergency feature in case a train is out of control and can just be run off the rails safely or something? They don't seem to be more tracks that were removed really since beyond the gravel patch there doesn't seem to be abandoned railbed or anything. Just curious! I see them frequently along the side of the route in videos like this.
It's an overrun protection. Essentialy protecting the main rail from trains that can't stop in time for whatever reason.
Nowadays they get slowly but steadily replaced by smarter signaling and train control systems but it will be a long time before they will all disappear.

Not able to find a lot on the drive train of these units. Some may be powered by Cummins diesels, an interesting side note. How is the engine energy transported to the wheels? It almost sounds as if there is a shift transmission in some instances but it is not pronounced enough or frequent enough to to confirm that. More of a bus style automatic, hydraulic, transmission? Think that may be more likely. Very interesting route. If it were not for videos like this, most of us would never get a chance to see the area. Grateful, thanks.
I don't know about this one but Russian trains use internal combustion engine to transform mechanical energy to electrical energy and deliver it to electric motor. It's widely-used with transporting of goods when train carries big amount of cars. When train has very big mass to carry it need too much speeds for correct work and they will break very soon with those loads. Electric motor is better because can give Max torque almost from the start and doesn't need much place
