Yeah this film gave me nightmares for months as a kid. It has aged really well though. Comedy is on point. The horror is gruesome without being over the top. The action is memorable.
I think the scariest part of this scene, perhaps of this entire film, is when Burns is alone, semi-blind and lost in that dark tomb, with the mummy stalking him. His dark silhouette at the end of the hall just reeks of horror.
5:10 I love how they gave a badass like Rick a good dose of empathy. The way he turns to go back(but realising it is already too late) to help the servant, and the way he tries to Help Beni later on in the film, even after all the things Beni did to Rick, just shows how badass O'Connell really is. Cool guys don't look at explosions they say. Wrong. Cool guys are like Rick O'Connell.
I like how on a lesser level, Jonathan is also given a dose of empathy. He stops to watch, ready to run but doesn't. Rick moves to go back, and realises it's too late. Just small scenes like that show why the good guys are the good guys.
This is literally how any regular person would react in that situation. So many bits of this movie serve to make you like and identify with the characters

Fun Fact: Nobody can read anything written in Egyptian hieroglyphics ALOUD with any degree of confidence, b/c we don't know much about what that language sounded like. The scribes routinely omitted all the vowels when writing things down -- even sacred texts and the Pharoah's laws -- since any native speaker of Egyptian would automatically know the vowel to use, anyway, its pronunciation, and what was meant. We can do this in English: Y knw y cn! Without the vowels, however, the range of variation in sounding out the words is vast, as is the range of possible meaning for certain words -- e.g. in English, must/mist/most/mast are all different words formed by the substitution of different vowels. No, the Rosetta Stone did not help here, actual native speakers of both High and Low Egyptian are long gone, and context only goes so far in pointing to the right translation.
Also, for someone who is an ‘expert’ in Egyptian history, she has absolutely no clue as to how mummification was actually done. I mean, a red hot iron stuck up the nose?! Why in the world would it need to be hot? Also, Imhotep was an amazing guy; doctor, architect, vizier, etc.

Can we just appreciate that Rick is always holding Evie's hand throughout the movie. In the beginning when he rescues her on the boat, at 1:19 before they run from the locusts, when they return to Cairo and the asteroids hit and they hear a noise upstairs he reaches his hand out for her to take before going to investigate. I'm sure there are other scenes escaping me. But this is why Rick and Evie are the ultimate OTP! Even before Rick's feelings became apparent he was always holding her hand or making sure he was within physical distance of her at all times. One of my favorite scenes that displays how much he cares for her is when he stole the American's tools for her and was willing to shoot the Americans when they tried to steal her digging spot and take back the tools he stole for her.
@@daniellelawman9724 Agreed. The third movie was just full of problems besides the fact that there was zero chemistry. Brendan did a great job of showcasing Rick still madly in love with Evie. Maria however, failed to come off as anything but a posh, fame hungry, character which is the opposite of who Evie was. She didn't even attempt to act like she was in love with Rick.

The original film is nearly 90 years old and also HASN'T AGED A SINGLE DAY. Boris Karloff was one of the greatest! I'm glad the remake didn't have any ambition to replace the original(the mistake of most remakes), but rather was more of a highly original updated retelling of "the same fundamental story".
This was replaying on the television when I was 4 years old and it traumatized me. However, this is still a good movie and I enjoy it now that I'm older.
the way Imohtep wakes up is the same way i wake up when my boss blows up my phone with unessessary phone calls on days i work and my days off. Also best evil roar ever especially in max volume.

How old was your dad? Boomer generation? His parents probably did the same to him forcing him to watch the original Boris Karloff masterpiece at a very young age in a 1940s re-release. The mummy got cheated tho 😂 after all thattime and he got minus power eyes
If i was in here i would've totally saved him before he loses his sight
Riasat Salmin Sami In the novel his buddies even said that it would’ve been better for Burns to have died. 😨
@@RiasatSalminSami When I first saw this movie, I always thought he lost his eyes not his tongue

They are incredible and have an amazing chemistry
This version of Evie, yeah. The other version was bad. They had zero chemistry and it was just awkward.
@@Ghostfriend7100 any idea why the original actress who played Evie didn’t play her in the 3rd movie?
you're absolutely right i always noticed that and is sooo beautiful and cute. I love every moment of that love they had for each other. seeing this movie today still has the same feels and it's an absolute masterpiece
the way he screamed and shot the mummy lmao
Justin BTD Battles one of my favorite parts lol
Almost feels like watching Terminator... fighting against a ruthless, unstoppable, invulnerable reanimated humanoid...
Yeah it's funny as hell
Justin BTD Battles he thought that was too easy to kill him.
Yat Sum Leung
Hasta La Vista baby!
I just noticed that because the eyes he took need glasses that's why he squints at Evie and thinks she's Anck-su-namun at first.
In a span of six minutes, Evelyn manages to awaken a cursed mummy, see a man without eyes or a tongue, and bump into said accursed mummy in his most grotesque form.
It's been a rough night for her.
She kinda brought it all upon herself when she decided to read the book…believe in curses or not, I wouldn’t have read from it if it had that kind of reputation…just saying
@@g1keitorin765 Yeah. Let's not forget that Evelyn started this whole mess. Hadn't she read the book, they all could have returned home rich beyond their wildest dreams.
That's what she gets for reading a book
She should have just played video games all night. I am a librarian!
@@lisboah Yes exactly. If anything, Evelyn should have thought twice before reading that book. Clearly, she's at fault for what happened and put the world at risk because she didn't believe in curses. Shame on her.
Rough night for her, traumatic night for poor Mr Burns.
Plot twist: Imhotep is an introvert and is depressed that he has been resurrected and has to get back on with life.
I love the way Evie screams when she first sees the mummy. She really seemed scared shitless haha
Well who couldn’t blame her. She’s looking at a guy who’s eyes got ripped out of his head as well as his tounge

This is probably my favourite movie of all time. It’s one of those films I just never get bored of watching.
One of the best movìes the mummy franchises with branden fresher
4:58 Rick: (Angry) DAMN IT! Trap door! (Calm) There's gotta be a switch or something around here someplace.
I love how he switches from frustrated to composed in a nanosecond. Hilarious and is why Brandon is perfect for the character.
wait so the mummy actually got a very terrible pair of eyes but that doesn't seem to bother him much
StopFlaggingVideos Since I was a kid I was wondering: That man's vision was a blurr as 144p quality! 😂😂😂 Mummy should've gotten some other eyes! Haha
maybe they were lucky he got the shitty eyes, so that they had more of an advantage over the mummy for a little while lol
...but that's the whole fucking reason he thinks she's Anck-su-namun.
WAIT. IS THAT REALLY WHY? BECAUSE THAT WAS ALWAYS STRANGE TO ME AND HAS NEVER OCCURRED TO ME
Travis Adams now that makes sense. there were so many plot holes leading to mummy returns
A 21 Year Old movie. Seems just yesterday. It doesn't look old, still looks cool and exciting.
You are right bro...
It's really a intresting movie
The original film is nearly 90 years old and also HASN'T AGED A SINGLE DAY.
Boris Karloff was one of the greatest!
I'm glad the remake didn't have any ambition to replace the original(the mistake of most remakes), but rather was more of a highly original updated retelling of "the same fundamental story".
This scene is legendary 🤣 " Noooo you must not read from the book"
I would have said opps what we do now 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏿♀️
Imagine if Evy wouldve never read from the book. Imhotep would just exist as a tourist attraction in a museum for the rest of time.
This was replaying on the television when I was 4 years old and it traumatized me. However, this is still a good movie and I enjoy it now that I'm older.
She's the cutest woman I've ever seen
"let's get out of here!"

How old was your dad? Boomer generation?
His parents probably did the same to him forcing him to watch the original Boris Karloff masterpiece at a very young age in a 1940s re-release.

I was born in 2004, so I didn't even exist when this movie came out. However, it is my favorite movie, it is the movie that made my childhood more beautiful. I remember exactly the first time I saw him. It was summer and I was at my grandmother's, I was 7 years old, the movie was on TV. I instantly fell in love with the movie and I think I watched it at least 20 times.
It doesn't matter, i saw Jumanji first time in 2006 (i think) and it came in 1995. Just because you didn't exist the time when the movie aired first time, doesn't mean it can't be your favorite. :)
My favorite movie as a kid. Very well done! Seen it about a hundred times. The second one isn't too bad either
