As a Session player, I have to tell you, you are still missing so many things on this sim! Just a few tips: put the game assists on hardcore and scoop input on normal (small is bugged right now since the last update). You'll have autocatch off, then. You don't catch like in SXL with L3 and R3, you catch with either right or left stick motions, depending on how you would catch it IRL. It's a game changer and I think you'll enjoy the challenge. Also, there is much more to the default map! You should totally visit the Brooklyn Banks! There are also other maps to select, incluiding the Pyramid Ledges and LES Park. Hope you enjoy this game as much as SXL!
Kevin Rocco You have in gameplay settings an option to set your stance to goofy, though it is practically like switch rn, because they are waiting to do all the final work on regular to mirror it to goofy properly. Having said that, it works, and your default stance will be goofy if you select that
in skater xl you have to click the joysticks to catch the board? in session can you revert/powerslide/no comply? late flips? how are the mini ramp/bowl physics? can you play s.k.a.t.e vs people? i just found out about both games... pretty excited. cant believe ps4/xone went their whole cycle without a skateboard game that wasnt trash.. :(
You're getting into the wrong grinds/slides, because you're focused on body rotation like in skater xl. In session you can get into most just by tweaking your feet in the air. :)
though this is true, it looks way better (and more realistic in my opinion) if you use your body and the legs, because a kickflip back tail looks very strange when you just use the feet.
for these who didnt know: you can do an impossible! Right Stick: ↓ ↙ ← ↖ ↑ than left Stick: ↓ you can do it Nollie, Switch and Fakie Please vote up, so everyone can see it.
Dude, we literally are gonna have 2 skate games in the same year after asking for skate 4 literally for ever and people are choosing one game over the other, just play both and thank the creators. I'm not saying that you can't have a preference, of course you can just dont hate on the other games.
Go into the settings or whatever it’s called, it tells u how to do every single grind and flip trick. Also in session explore the map more and go to the Brooklyn banks
to do grinds and slides you only have to use the sticks (not the triggers). Also all the basic tricks are shown in the settings. When you got the hang of session it´s really so much fun!
I started out playing skater xl for a bit, then I switched to session, and I'm back at skater xl right now. I feel like skater xl is a little more polished, and the tricks can seem more clean, but session is definitely more realistic. It has more tricks, built in board catch, and depending on where you place your thumb on the joystick, the character will jump into that direction. I feel like session has a lot of things going for it in the core game, but with the help of a lot of mods, skater xl is just as good, if not better.
there are secret tricks like grabs, late flips, late shuvs, and others. To do a Ollie north do a Ollie and then with your right stick go up. Late shuvs are easy, just Ollie and do a shuv with your back foot. To do a Late flip just do a Ollie and then flick your front or back stick to the side. Grabs are hard, you need to click the bumper and with your left stick go up, crooked, left or right.
Session controls can be adjusted to the most minimal detail. From rotation speed to choosing if you have to use and input when landing from a tall place. It's all customizable to fit your play style. Go through each menu and read up the different options, it's all about what fits your gameplay style. You can also choose some presets they have that adjust it from arcadey to realism. Try it out and see what you like :)
Day 3 of asking Garrett to release a video showcasing every mod he uses in order to make Skater XL perform the way it does in his vids. You inspired me to order a prebuilt SOLELY because of this game and series. Love from Houston brother!❤️
At their current state and without mods, Session and Skater XL are both good in their own ways, I would give a little more credit to Session for the map and less floaty physics, but it needs a lot of polishing. Then if we include mods in the comparison, of course Skater XL becomes unbeatable, it's amazing, and all credit goes to the modding community, as the devs apparently want the game to look floaty as hell and with the same shitty sounds from the Skater app. I really, really hope they port all the physics mods AND the beautiful sound mod to the official release, I mean why not?
Little things to know to make session more enjoyable: Switch stance/revert: double tap trigger Get more speed: tap the push button instead of hold Get max speed quicker: run then jump on your board Late flips/shuvs: input flip/scoop with either foot anytime in the air Impossibles: 3 shuv input but flick front foot down instead of up (opposite for nollie/fakie) To put your foot in the pocket, tweak the back foot a little to the side, or a lot to the side, before popping There's also a trick guide in the menu that shows how to do most grinds for each stance Challenges are the only real "game" aspect, and it's mostly about recreating famous tricks done on specific spots. And it's worth noting transitions and grabs aren't as up to par with SXL, but considering the game's current state, it's not a deal breaker. Both games are great and I wish the best for both of them.
So here is how to high Pop Ollie put both triggers down and then flick up the front foot You can modulate the height with how far the stick is back You can revert or slide out a trick by double tapping the trigger You should mess around with the stick settings i like mine in directional mode so the flip speed depends on the direction you flick the stick For every slide/grind their is an optimal foot position witch makes the grind much more stable.
I'd recommend these settings and to check out the modding discord.

Yo, it's easier to use the sticks to land grinds. Only use the triggers if you want to spin. If you want to do a (goofy) front side nose slide, Ollie next to the ledge and push your front foot (right stick) to the left and hold it while you grind. Each stick controls each foot even in the air.
For grinds in session they work best if you put in an input. Eg. If you are regular and want to tail a ledge to your right then hold left on the left stick.
After playing many hours on both....there's just a super small possibility way XL can catch up with Session. I legit tried XL last week after getting good with Session; I think I played for 5 seconds before deleting XL for good
For grinds you don’t rotate your body. Instead you move the sticks after you Ollie and the input moves the different parts of the board onto the object. Look at the trick lists in the skate guide in the options area to see what to do for the different grinds.
Skater xl doesnt look that bad honestly. Not to mention, its just graphics. Who cares how detailed if the gameplay is worth it (which it very much is). Just look at sessions for example. Looks good but plays like 💩
both are good in their own right. SXL is all about how well the community makes something, and how it adapts too updates. but session has more "realism" in the background. but the problem with detail is there is a fine line between too much detail, and not enough.
Session is pretty dope. I just have the beta but my old computer can run it decently and it's got great mechanics! Oh I meant Skater XL....lmao real edit there...
I like session a lot more, especially when you get good at it. SXL is still fun but a lot more frustrating to do certain things consistently. The transition is amazing though. The most important thing to note for Session is that everything is input based. Also grinds. So for crooks feeble board slides lipslides etc you do certain inputs. You don't really rotate (perhaps very little of Ur on a weird angle). You only rotate to do actual rotations in the air.
Garrett if u cant get enough speed for a spot (like that double set that you tried) u have an object dropper where u can place ramps to get speed or use them to launch for more high or u can even get to secret spots u couldn’t get to before or even create your own spots (I said or too many time lmao)
Hardcore mode is meant to be active all the time. + timed input flips settings Makes the game even better. Catching your board and influencing the speed of the flips adds some realism in the animations, especially body rotations. ( the body makes 50% of the rotation, and the feet do the 50% left) Half cabs and 180 flips are seriously sick with those settings. The learning curve is just way longer.
So for session, use the thumb sticks to rotate into nose slides and such. It's super difficult to try to do it with the triggers like you do with skater xl.
Not sure how you think Skater XL focuses more on physics when the game feels so floaty and weightless. At least Session tries to apply some semblance of weight and gravity.
I have a setup that more than exceeds the standards for session as I tried to save the money initially. The skater in session would either never get up or sink into the ground and I would only see sky. XL has been sweet af, however.
hardcore mode and its manual, catch fixes that. Fs and Bs rotations are spared between body and feet. You can influence the latency between your body and your feet during a rotation. when you 've got it, half cab flips (for exemple) look real.
@@guiguijol I used to play Session with both your advised settings. Even in the new update where they focused on stance and foot placement can have an effect on the trick. The skater just seems really stiff and robotic in comparison is all. Even though skaterXL can have spaghetti legs sometimes, it can look sooo good with the stats menu mods and the focus on realism. Watch Milky videos on skaterXL, that dude has some serious steeze in game. Session can't do that just yet.
BIGGEST TIP RIGHT HERE CHECK THE CONTROLS IN THE GAME MENU it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know. grinds/slides/flip tricks/etc look at trick controls in the menu. you'll learn how to do all grinds/slides/tricks properly and consistently. (knowledge is power! you'll know exactly what the game expects of you) Impossibles are not listed. its like doing a tre flip but flick DOWN with your front foot. grabs are in the game, but they suck, dont bother. set up "goofy stance" in the menu, (its set up as regular by default) as a goofy footed skater/player myself, set up your sticks as "left foot / right foot" and it will make tricks easier to understand. Left foot = Left stick all the time and Right foot = right stick all the time, even when skating switch of fakie. also go to your apartment from the menu and customize your skater. set everything to AUTO (flip speed ect,) except grinds. get the basics before branching out. once you get comfortable (10's of hours practice), try enabling manual catch and then you'll see the REAL difficulty of this game. its SUPER rewarding, but also really frustrating when trying to get "the perfect line" good luck and have fun!
Try using the joystick inputs instead of triggers to turn board to grind/slide After popping you need to release both joysticks for a millisecond before and using them to place your board. For exemple for a frontside tail slide in goofy coming from the right side of the ledge-rail you do your ollie then release both triggers as and then push the left joystick (backfoot) to the left. If your don't do the release triggers thing your board won't move using your foot inputs For a backside feeble for example you would pop release joystick and push left joystick bottom-right and right joystick top-left
I bought both games about 2 months ago and tries Session first. I couldn't get the controls so I checked out Skater XL and it was definitely easier. This weekend I decided to play Session again and started with hardcore controls. I love it I'm starting to get it figured out. Put about 12 hrs into it this weekend and it's so difficult and rewarding. Feels way more satisfying to land tricks than Skater Xl.
I agree especially when you put a good line together and practice it and gain info with each failed attempt until you finally nail it and the crowd goes wild.
sim vs arcade. Session needs precision. I like both though alog with the SKATE series. But i never liked how insanely crazy and super arcade style of the tony hawk. He made over well 100mil off those games for use of his name. What a baller.
Both are dope for different reasons tbh Skater xl is great for making Skate Parts. Their replay editor is amazing and the mods are dope Session has more tricks idk it's hard to choose im glad they both exist
i’m so excited for both of these games, right now skater xl looks way more polished, but session is looking like it’s full release will be just as good
Nuno Antunes i mean personally i don’t like sessions mechanics, i prefer the way skater xl plays, just because it feels a lot more responsive and smoother. but hey i mean you got a lot to look forwards to in session, that game looks really pretty rn and the map design is really good too
They’re really just very different games and I play both depending on my mood whether I feel like cruising around New York or sending banger tricks in skaterxl
If u turn off most of the assistance, this is obviously the best skate simulator! Also tricks look better on session, I think they use proper board physics.
Yo Garrett next time if you play this you can also place objects that also stay where you placed them so if you cant hit spot you can make a roll in so you can clear that double set (: it helps alot with this game and it changes your map and makes it Your own map as well (:
also to answer ur end question. In the current state of Both games. i think SXL is a lil better. they both have their Pros & Cons, but i like the physics & fluidity of SXL more. But i like the off board freedom, graphics, & one whole city to skate in Session better.. I still play both just as much as the other. & i also love both of them, i just play XL a lil more. But holy crap do i think Session when 100% finished has the potential to be so fxcking amazing! i cant wait for the day session is complete just to see how far its come. Hell it's already come a hella long way. i remember when it was annouced on kick stater and all they had were bare 3D modles of only the board & drawings for stuff only & That N64 Pixel dude as their test skater (which is now a playable character in the game hahaha). now look at it. So its end goal i think will be 100x better than it is now. & i cant wait !!!! We will have potentially 5 skate games coming. skater XL, Session THPS 1 & 2 (counting them as 2 seperate games) and now Skate 4 as of them announcing it!!!. Life is good if you are a skater/gamer right now. life is fxcking good.
I wanted to dislike because I want skater xl instead but i want you to get rent money with this channel and stream so you can have your main as extra money
i play session and lately the challenge dailys have been my means to comeback and learn new things i do not skate. session as a freedom that i do not see in skatexl, very entertaining to see your videos doe in that game, your bring interest to it but just feels easier than session.with a possible transition update i will not buy skate also happy you are being succesfull even i never seen your skate videos
Session is definitely the better game in my opinion. Idiots just bash it because they dont understand it's an alpha and motion capture hasn't been implemented yet. The game is constantly changing and improving.

Late flips/shuvs: input flip/scoop with either foot anytime in the air

If you go to options there is an option to change the controls to legacy mode. This mode makes the controls more like skate 3
This game looks great, but the animations are ganky as hell. If and when they clean it up with some mo cap it’ll be better to play
They haven’t fixed the goody stance yet cuz they wanna get all the tricks in regular to mirror them
It's an alpha that will come in due time.
I own both games. And have over 50hrs on both. I moved back to skaterXL because of the animation update.
hardcore mode and its manual, catch fixes that.
Session can't do that just yet.
imagine they would have a big map to skate like gta 5 and
u skating down the sunset and listen to chill music
i would love it
sry for my bad english
Keep playing session, as you progress you’ll enjoy it more
you can unlock a cool board if you press X twice and pull left thumb stick back, fast
if u want to know how to do stuff look at the trick guide in the menu, its really easy to comprehend
it literally tells you how to do every flat trick and grind, will definitely make the game more enjoyable for you and the audience
Skater xl has a dope community with all the mods and other content constantly being created and improved
“Does it need waxed errr?..” 😂😂
10:42 best part 😂
BIGGEST TIP RIGHT HERE
CHECK THE CONTROLS IN THE GAME MENU
it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know. grinds/slides/flip tricks/etc
look at trick controls in the menu.
you'll learn how to do all grinds/slides/tricks properly and consistently. (knowledge is power! you'll know exactly what the game expects of you)
Impossibles are not listed. its like doing a tre flip but flick DOWN with your front foot.
grabs are in the game, but they suck, dont bother.
set up "goofy stance" in the menu, (its set up as regular by default)
as a goofy footed skater/player myself, set up your sticks as "left foot / right foot" and it will make tricks easier to understand. Left foot = Left stick all the time and Right foot = right stick all the time, even when skating switch of fakie.
also go to your apartment from the menu and customize your skater.
set everything to AUTO (flip speed ect,) except grinds. get the basics before branching out.
once you get comfortable (10's of hours practice), try enabling manual catch and then you'll see the
REAL difficulty of this game. its SUPER rewarding, but also really frustrating when trying to get "the perfect line"
good luck and have fun!
The slams in this game are so funny. I love it.
Wow your growing fast keep it up
That’s what she said
Garrett Ginner Gaming haha
Try using the joystick inputs instead of triggers
to turn board to grind/slide
After popping you need to release both joysticks for a millisecond before and using them to place your board. For exemple for a frontside tail slide in goofy coming from the right side of the ledge-rail you do your ollie then release both triggers as and then push the left joystick (backfoot) to the left. If your don't do the release triggers thing your board won't move using your foot inputs
For a backside feeble for example you would pop release joystick and push left joystick bottom-right and right joystick top-left
Garret: I really like the ground
Me: FLOOR GANG OUH
I bought both games about 2 months ago and tries Session first. I couldn't get the controls so I checked out Skater XL and it was definitely easier. This weekend I decided to play Session again and started with hardcore controls. I love it I'm starting to get it figured out. Put about 12 hrs into it this weekend and it's so difficult and rewarding. Feels way more satisfying to land tricks than Skater Xl.
I agree especially when you put a good line together and practice it and gain info with each failed attempt until you finally nail it and the crowd goes wild.
After watching Garett kickflip over the LA river it just seems condescending when he compliments someone else's skating.
Lowkey like skater xl more but this is more entertaining because of how funny the physics are
realism doesn’t mean it’s better. Both games have pros and cons. Personal preference is SXL but hyped to see how Session is goin for that hardcore sim
sim vs arcade. Session needs precision. I like both though alog with the SKATE series. But i never liked how insanely crazy and super arcade style of the tony hawk. He made over well 100mil off those games for use of his name. What a baller.
Encore in the Back 👌🔥🔥🔥
My thought exactly
Both are dope for different reasons tbh
Skater xl is great for making Skate Parts. Their replay editor is amazing and the mods are dope
Session has more tricks idk it's hard to choose im glad they both exist
this is why skater xl and session should make a collab game called session XL bc the graphics are good and skater XL has better animations
i’m so excited for both of these games, right now skater xl looks way more polished, but session is looking like it’s full release will be just as good
Nah dude Session is way better.
Their focusing on what matters at this state, wich is mechanics and game feel.
I really doubt XL will get there
Nuno Antunes i mean personally i don’t like sessions mechanics, i prefer the way skater xl plays, just because it feels a lot more responsive and smoother. but hey i mean you got a lot to look forwards to in session, that game looks really pretty rn and the map design is really good too
My only complaint about session right now is the falls, there are no sound effects to eating pavement, metal etc.
Good to see such a skilled irl skater play this game. I like it, just needs more content and a big more polish then it will be sweet.
Holy shit his head dented that metal siding hahaha 7:22 pretty crazy honestly
youre humble i like that.
They’re really just very different games and I play both depending on my mood whether I feel like cruising around New York or sending banger tricks in skaterxl
Hard to say without playing either game on which one is better but skater xl looks like it's better 💥
If u turn off most of the assistance, this is obviously the best skate simulator! Also tricks look better on session, I think they use proper board physics.
gg and thanks for playing! In Session you need a lot of space to jump
Should be like you can meet up with ur mates on a server and just watch people doing dank tricks
Dude the greatest issue in this game is just the grinds everything else works amazing!
for a higher ollie in session @garretginner you just need to hold down the joystick longer before you pop for a trick.
“Does it need wax?” Lol i died
Yo Garrett next time if you play this you can also place objects that also stay where you placed them so if you cant hit spot you can make a roll in so you can clear that double set (: it helps alot with this game and it changes your map and makes it Your own map as well (:
If you really like getting off your board which I do too, skate 3 is a great game for that.
I played skater xl for the first time today and honestly idk they both have their ups and down but outa the 2 I think session is a bit more realistic
also to answer ur end question.
HAHAHA I think that’s a compliment
Garrett Ginner Gaming yea it was a I love the daily uploads- vegemite
@@joshmeadows9219 if hed upload on his main smh its been 2 weeks
Andrew Mccutcheon yea ik
Session is 10x better than skater xl :(((
I died of laughter when your body went flying 😂
once hit a laser flip to front crook kickflip off of that huge roof drop where yu said "i got super knees"
Best part of this whole video 5:40 haha!
People saying XL better but they haven't played none of them lmao. Don't get fooled by hyped trailers.
i played a bit of seesion from the free trial on xbox and it was great and now i wanna try out xl to somewhat compare them for myself 😂
Skate 3
@@bryan7538 do they still have a free trial
i play session and lately the challenge dailys have been my means to comeback and learn new things i do not skate. session as a freedom that i do not see in skatexl, very entertaining to see your videos doe in that game, your bring interest to it but just feels easier than session.with a possible transition update i will not buy skate also happy you are being succesfull even i never seen your skate videos
Session is definitely the better game in my opinion. Idiots just bash it because they dont understand it's an alpha and motion capture hasn't been implemented yet. The game is constantly changing and improving.
ok i was just watching the famous spot video and i thought i was living in the Mandela effect universe or some shxt lol. I was so confused i actually said out loud. "Wait, WHAT?!?! i swear seen Jaws land that sair gap me and my cousins watched it together?" hahaha Garrett, you had me worried there for a second. I thought i was going crazy forgetting things already, and im only in my 20s lol
- But ANYWAAAAAAYs, Love your vids bro. i literally been binge watching all your stuff (Gaming & IRL vids) all week. Keep up the great work. Both on and off the board fam. GGz fam-o
(people always ask me "why do you say GGz (Good Game) and your not playing a game" well i just wanna say. It can also mean "Good Going". Thats Still "GG" lol)
love you dad
