2017 Lincoln MKX Black Label Review: Curbed with Craig Cole

  • Cadillac is adored by the press for building sporty, emotional vehicles like the ATS-V. In contrast, longtime-rival Lincoln receives all the scorn for a lineup comprised largely of warmed-over Fords. But, this brand’s sales are actually growing at a significant rate thanks to new vehicles like their MKX crossover as well as a focus on luxury through its Black Label program.

    That indulgence of its customers should raise a highly needed Lincoln sales.

    I just bought one after a month of overwhelming car shopping and LOVE IT! I have the Black Label MUSE edition and it's been so worth it.

    Lincoln has the right idea here. People who buy expensive cars care about the car AND the experience. I think Lincoln should stick to luxurious, smooth, and reliable cars while taking individually tailored service seriously. Master these two aspects and soon they'll have the American Lexus, which is something a large demographic of prospective customers actually wants.

    I admire that they bother to wrap the interior in high quality leather. Too many luxury cars are filled with injection molded plastic.

    damn....i didnt know Lincoln went this deep with their customers and how really nice their suvs are and how personal they get. I just bought a 2017 Ford Escape SE Ecoboost 4WD, and I was thinking of the adventures i will be having, so i went with the Escape, but after looking at these very nice looking SUV's, i might trade it in haha...

    If your all piss and vinegar on it then you obviously have not sat in one. If your still pissy then you obviously cant form an unbiased opinion about fit finish and quality of materials. They compete in every way to the germans. Ive driven both line ups(Mercedes & Lincoln).

    not competitive for the price in its segment, the black label needs to be standard across all its line.

    The newer model MKX's are to small compared to the later model's. Keep the size from 2011 and increase the speed and fuel efficiency and I am in.

    black label themes should be vast & not limited for example I would like to have the Bentley muslanne famous interior color the red ( main ) & white ( secondary ) with ziricote wood trim which American luxury cars used to have in the 60's & 70's or the BMW m6 tan with white ash wood interior or brown with paige with ziricote wood trim however the best black label theme is the mkz chalet but same thing goes for cadillac & it's ironic that car custom workshops can do more than a factory with its big machines & capabilities .

    As with all Lincolns these will make excellent 2nd owner cars after 3 years when they are worth 40% of MSRP. I will seriously consider a black label Continental a few years from now.

  • @dcharizard91
    @dcharizard91 8 років тому +1

    The reviewer forgot to mention that the Black Label package on the MKX adds more than $15K to the price. Not sure the "improvements" they made is really worth it. It still has the tacky looking center stack with huge pieces of cheap plastic. Lincoln also manages to make the real wood trim, look like fake plastic. Lincoln still doesn't compete with the luxury brands like Mercedes/Audi/BMW/Lexus/Jaguar/even Cadillac. Lincoln is still more sub-luxury like Buick/Acura/Infiniti/upcoming Genesis.

    • @banstaman
      @banstaman 8 років тому

      I always did think that the center stack plastic looked a bit out of place in something that expensive. Perhaps a different grade of plastic would be great and the turn signals COULD be different from the ones used in the Fiesta and Focus. But other than that, i personally find Lincolns of late to have amazing interiors. Certainly better than Buicks.

      +Austin Chase But tires aren't included...it just "covers all required maintenance, including wear items such as shock absorbers, engine belts, hoses and hose clamps, brake pads and linings, wiper blades and spark plugs."

      Literally ever car has plastic near the infotainment screen. Also, sure Mercedes and BMW may be better than Lincoln, but Cadillac, Lexus, and Audi aren't really much better than Lincoln. Audi uses nothing but plastic in their cars, but because their well put together no one complains. Lexus is alright and Cadillac is nothing special. I like how he called a Cadillac ATS an excellent vehicle. No one when thinking of great cars thinks about a ATS.

  • @nimab8935
    @nimab8935 8 років тому +1

    Imho, their designs still have serious flaws. The new Continental is much better but Lincoln is not there yet. I think they are still some over priced Fords.

  • @publicname60

    Nice, will probably be my next vehicle. May not get the top package and have to remain on fast food lol. My fox body Ford is over 25 years old and still starts every time and runs well. She's been my only vehicle and I her only owner and I've done nothing to her except maintenance items. No engine rebuild, transmission etc. Don't feel right getting a new vehicle as long as she's in good shape and the longer she goes the more I can save for a new Lincoln... Knowing her I might get that steak after all :). Though parting will be so very sad.

    • @waltchan

      I suggest that you pick up the 2018 MKX with 3.7L V6 now. The new Ford Ecoboost twin-turbo junk have a shorter-lifespan of only 10 years now, plus lower reliability than 3.7L with 20-year lifespan.

    they are still selling less than Buick, Infiniti, and Acura in the US. but with that said this definitely can help Lincoln move away from the pleathers, injection molds, and plastic fake woods that is currently plaguing their line up of clearly rebaed fords. the one annoying thing still is that the interior architecture and switch gear remains the same as their lower end ford counter parts. though with that said the majority of their line up is still nothing but a Buick / Acura competitor, they still have a ways to go before they can take on Cadillac and Lexus.

    • @Mohammadkwt
      @Mohammadkwt 8 років тому

      news flash Lincoln still under ford ownership but they are working alone since 2010-2011 so that's why you see huge change in the brand

      +dcharizard91 you saw how the new continental & navigator concept are it's all new & nothing close to ford vehicles & if you wanna talk about similarities there's no big difference between a Denali & escalade just a minor exterior difference & minor interior add-ons even when they are fully loaded while the rest is same ( engine , transmission etc..... )

    I bought a new 2016 MKX and after 3 months was forced to sell it due to large amounts of fiberglass passing out the exhaust and polutting the whole vehicle and interior. 5 months after selling it and losing $18,000.00 I still cough from inhaling this fiberglass. Lincoln would not assist me in this problem and told me to keep the windows up. I was told not to call them any more. This problem may be viewed { 2016 Lincoln MKX problems on utube } This is only in the 2.7 eco engine vehicles .
