Great video Kyle, might have to try one soon. Do you ever have a problem with your saws throwing bar oil all over your carving. My little husky covers everything in oil when I'm running it at high speeds, like detailing. Kind of wondering if theres a Stihl in my future.

Goose I have a had saws throwing crazy oil before. Sometimes a heavy weight is better. I have been told there is different bar oil for different seasons or climates. Also depending on the saw you might be able to adjust the oiler .

Goose another way to combats the oil is just torch the carving before paint and finish it will burn it off for ya . I plan to do a video on a few different torch options in the near future.

I have been enjoying your videos! Question for a newbie: can I use a regular chainsaw bar (Husqvarna 435) or must I purchase a smaller-tipped bar for beginner work? Thank you!

You can . I always suggest safety gear and start with what you have . Upgrade after you know you really want to keep doing it .Good luck stay safe .

Very informative. Thank you so much! What is that work mate you clamped the wood into to hold it as you carved?

What model is the 1st saw in the video? Was it any good? It's not a ms250. I have 4 of them and will never own another, just unreliable junk in my opinion. Better off spending the amount of $ to own two ms170s with different bars for a beginner carver. Or one ms211 . I've been beating mine up for over 3 yrs & never had a problem. Just couldn't catch the model of the bigger saw in the video, let me know if it was a decent buy. Cheers!

The first saw I was using is the Stihl Ms 250 . Honestly love that saw . I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on the saw but it runs great for me

I’m thinking about carving or hiring someone to carve on a large 15’ oak stump in the back yard. Any thoughts or things I may need to consider?
    I know nothing. Thank you!

Well that would be a big first job if you have never carved before. First you would wanna learn to carve which means you need safety gear saws tools and probably some kind of scaffolding for a carving that big . Also oak is a hard wood carving it will be slow going compared to pine . This means the price might be higher if you decide to pay someone. Along with the above if you decide to do it or pay someone keep in mind back yard trees can potentially have foreigners items grown into then bolts , wire examples. You can wreck a saw chain quick and deal with kick back . On flip a carver might charge you more for each foreign item they hit with their saw .

Cool video, thanks for the instructions. I like the you you explain things...
I looked in your links and the one item i am really interested in isn't there, where did you get the dust mask? I have a beard and wear glasses too. Every dust mask I've used fogs up my glasses that one looks like it would seal up enough. Does it do good for you?
    Thanks Redbeard

It works well still fogs some depending on weather . I have a link to the mask in my most recent video , the owl tutorial.
