    This is the best, most thorough review of the RV 890 I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to present this. Very helpful.

    That cell ph drive app only works if you have cell service. Contrastingly the garmin works off satellite i think ? Much better than cell in rural areas.

    Both of the tunnels can only accommodate a maximum height of 13'6”. District personnel have to inspect and measure any vehicle over that height requirement so that the driver can be turned around or properly adjust the height of the truck. Typically, this happens about 15 times per day.

    Great review! I see my texting you made the video. LOL!!! I am going to call you about why Garmin doesn't put the imported trip planer in order. That seems crazy to me. Again great review.

    Nice review! My key main question is, when in the trip plan mode, supposed we don't like the route it makes for us because it takes us too close to a big city and a bridge we don't want to go on. Can we simply tap on the bridge or road we'd much rather take? Will the Garmin then continue us on from there to our final destination? Another question is, will the Garmin will give us a few different routes we can choose just from, just like it gives us a list of several different rest stops or campgrounds to choose from? I hope you understand my questions and concerns. You spent very little time towards the way end discussing how to use the trip planner. I'd really like it if you could do a thorough video showing us how to alter/adjust/ slightly change a route planned by Garmin or does the Garmin actually automatically give us several routes to choose between? And then supposed we want to alter the route slightly, how do we do it please? Thank you very much 😊

    • @RvTipsandTrips
      @RvTipsandTrips  2 роки тому +2

      Yes the Garmin can provide an alternative route. It will show two routes. You can also edit a route. It's called route shaping. Just drag the route line to were you like and it will recalculate the trip.

      @@RvTipsandTrips Ohh, that's excellent 👍✔️ Sounds very practical and helpful. I'm now happier about possible purchase this Garmin. Two routes the gps device often creates won't take us the way we truly need to go. These different gps devices and apps often give alternative routes but not where or in the precise place we need the route to be different. I'm guessing the " route shaping " mode you mention works by first using our two fingers to expand/enlarge the route map, then place one finger on the spot we wish to move, and drag the original trip the Garmin created to the new road or bridge we want to travel on. Then the Garmin will calculate from there.? Hope i was clear in my explaining. If you have time it would be so nice of you to do a video showing how we shape a route. One time to avoid let's say a bridge ( only one place ) that's comes about 1/4 distance to the final destination. Then show how to shape a trip where we want to change or "shape" the original trip at two or three places/ locations, further on down towards the final end point destination. Thanks so much 👍

      Answer is ye$. Garmin support indicated I needed the $49.95 model #010-12982-00 powered mount from their DEZL series. It has the powered magnet base with the antenna and it takes the place of the RV 890 supplied powered magnet base w/out antenna. It's a complete kit with the powered unit, the arm, suction cup base as well as alternate screw down base, cigarette lighter power cord. I received it before the RV 890 arrived. Nothing like having options and critical spare parts/pieces.

    The problem I'm having and attempting to work out with Garmin and/or RV TripWizard, is to have the unit receive a pre-planned trip (.GPX file) and display that trip properly to navigate from stop-to-stop. If you do pre-planned stops, are you having THIS problem??

    • @RvTipsandTrips
      @RvTipsandTrips  3 роки тому

      It loads the trip into the garmin as stops in your favorites. They are labeled like this #1 lake gaston rv park. #2 Hershey TV park and so on. It then calculates each segment from your current location as you go. I found this works out just fine for me. I have the entire year in there.

      Go to map view
      Touch speed
      A data display will come up on the right side.
      Touch one of the data display buttons
      A reset field box will come up
      Touch reset
      You can then reset trip B or select reset overall to reset trip A

    Just got the same GPS and have a quick question. I am trying to go to the Chesapeake Bay TT Park from the south and it wants to take me through the tunnel in the Norfolk area. Do you know somewhere/how we can set up to avoid the tunnels? How about modifying the route it gives? Wanting to stay on 95 on up a ways and avoiding that area all together. TIA

    • @RvTipsandTrips
      @RvTipsandTrips  3 роки тому

      There is no option to avoid tunnels. You can avoid tolls and ferries. You can edit your route before hitting go. Yo can hit the compare route icon. It will show 2 routes plus an edit. If you hit edit you can touch the map to take a different road. Play with it I think it will work for you

    If I use Trip Planner and create a trip for my RV but I'm in Car mode when I plan the trip, will there be a warning that there's a low bridge or whatever the problem is (if one exists) when I switch to the RV mode or do I have to create the trips in Trip planner while in the RV driving mode? I made a bunch of upcoming trips for our RV but then noticed I was in car mode and I don't know if I need to delete them all and start over. Thanks!

      The garmin website has some how to videos. The trip wizard app will generate a gpx file which I download to my computer and then you can upload to the garmin while it is connected to the computer. The stops are saved to the garmin as saved addresses. They are not stored in sequence but are numbered when displayed in a list.

    We bought this unit in March when we went to update in May we couldn't use the map features. How in the world is yours working?
