As a fellow autistic I definitely think you're on to something, especially if you look at the Primarchs, like there is no way you can look me straight in the face and tell me Guilliman, the Lion and Dorn aren't different types of autistics, like people joke that Dorn is the emotionless autistic, but he absolutely isn't, he's very emotional, he just doesn't show it, or doesn't know how. For example, he still sleeps with a blanket he got from the man who raised him, because it has massive sentimental value to him. Or how in one of the books, I am fairly certain there's a line from Dorn about wanting to cry because he has to ruin all the beautiful art of architecture of terra to reinforce it against the traitor armies, and how once the great crusade was all over, he wanted to be an architect, and artistic architect. My man's autistic, and honestly for me, Dorn and Guilliman are some of the most relatable characters in all of 40k

I can look you in the face and tell you they are not different types of autistics.
They are in no way shape or form different types of Autistic.
Holding on to sentimental things and loving the architecture that is older then you does not make a person Autistic. following your logic everyone can be autistic for having items that are sentimental, or a passion for Architecture and artwork.. so like everyone is now autistic by your own logic.

Wait a second is the Emperor Autistic?
From what I can gather reading the books he is capable of understanding or picking up human Emotions and even mimic them, but is unable to translate them in a way where he can truly actually be considerate of most human Emotions.
He understands humanity and how people think and even capable of even sympathizing just a bit from what we see, but isn't capable of actually translating or even finding it hard to care for long just due to the fact his age and what he is won't let him care.
How he had Come to *Eventually* love his sons who when you actually break it down are straight up just warp mimicking, monstrosities that wear skin suits *(which explains why the Emperor displayed emotion for everyone but them till later on)* tells us he had been able care once which also tells us he wasn't scheming on galactic domination at the age of 6 and likely was born, grew and lived like the rest of the farming peasentry at the time, only differents being he couldn't die.
Which is why his such an Ass most of the time and modeled the imperium after imperial Rome. His just the text book defenetion of a boomer which explains a lot 😂
though he was likely born with autistic traits, they had just likely amplified as he begun to age with him going full on coocoo and fully drowning in his own sauce after living through multiple apocalyptic events caused by humanity. Which explains why despite wanting to protect them finds it hard to care about normal humans, can't say I blame him to much to be honest😅

As an autistic person myself I can definitely see how being autistic could be extremely beneficial for space Marines. Just speaking from personal experience I perform my best when I restrict myself from doing other things and super focus on to one thing for extended period of time and the longer I focus the more momentum I build and the better I do. Space Marines have a very restricted life style so I would imagine they have a lot of this momentum on their side. It's also much easier and more enjoyable for me to do things in my cone of interest so assuming that space Marines have war in their cone of interest I could see how this could really help space Marines do their job.

I think it has less to do with the medical autism, more to do with how space marines are raised. they don't get proper socialization most of the time because they grow up with the chapter from a young age, as well as all the brainwashing space marines go through as well, it makes most space marines not the best conversationalists. however, traits such as being able to be hyper aware, efficient, and understanding of engineering and complex tactics are something they are schooled in deeply.
because of all this space marine social circles are much different then baseline humans. space marines might casually discuss the preferred way to fight different enemies and different tactics the same way normal people might talk about the weather or relationship drama simply because thats how their life and childhood is.

I'd be very careful about ascribing neurodivergent traits to "it being useful back in our hunter-gatherer days".
Cause a Lot of evo-psych analyses in that vein can quickly turn into just-so stories where people basically start with a bunch of assumptions on how evolutionary psychology is "supposed" to work, and then start working backwards trying to fit any neurodivergent behaviour into that model. UA-camr Münecat made a pretty good video about it a couple months ago if you're interested

I am diagnosed Autistic, as well as a Boxer. Boxing is my soul interest, and my free time is spent shadowboxing and watching 12-15rd fights on repeat and frame by frame, or memorizing every Boxing history fact and date available lol
I have nearly no friends outside of Boxing. My wife and daughter Box. My brother is my main sparring partner and introduced me to Warhammer 40K. He is also Autistic and plays Imperial Fists lol
I also have greatly reduced pain and disproportionate autism strength. I have to hold back completely in sparring and still unintentionally injure people unless it's extremely light contact. I've had multiple surgeries without anesthesia because it doesn't work on me in safe doses.
I learned socialization out of necessity and enjoy speaking with people about subjects that interest them and hearing about peoples passions and troubles.
I was very large for my age and was routinely beaten by adults and teenagers as a child. I was bigger than nearly all of them by 12yrs old.
I like the intricacies of 40K lore, and it's parallels with reality. It makes you appreciate how good things are and realize how much worse they could be lol
I enjoy learning about every faction and lean towards Salamanders for their desire to remain human and Black Templars because they are far more human and less fanatic than in the memes, and because they waste no time in seeking out the traitors and enemies of Mankind.

1:13 They still are, depending on the autism in question. I have it and have been able to circumvent or correct pretty much all of the social drawbacks by decades of careful observation and self-adjustment, especially during middle school and high school. I'm actually very happy with my autism, as it gives me several advantages in a wide variety of fields.
There are still a few drawbacks I haven't been able to fully correct (though they are accounted for), such as it being very hard, at times, to start or stop doing things (especially if said things are social in nature and not a part of my routine) and my perfectionist tendencies can sometimes get the best of me (I can spend literal hours on a single YT comment, among other issues), but I'm rather proud of the capabilities I have that few of my peers can match (sometimes as a direct result of said perfectionist tendencies).
As an example (my apologies if this is a bit long), a former boss of mine asked me to complete a complex task asap because the customers who needed said product were coming to visit the company in two days. I somewhat reluctantly agreed and proceeded to not sleep, bathe, or eat proper food (I subsisted on hamburgers) for a day and two straight nights while sitting in my office chair to finish the task I agreed to do asap.
Everyone thought the task was impossible, including my boss. He also meant the sane version of asap - which included sleep and going home. I, meanwhile, provided a literal asap performance. I was putting the finishing touches on the product right as the customers came to visit our company from abroad (Germany) and I was able to personally show them the nearly-finished item in question. It also helped that I happen to speak German and am fairly personable.
The customers and my boss were very happy, but they weren't the only ones who were impressed. Some 6 years later, my best friend and often business partner, who also worked for the same company previously and saw the entire thing happen, told this story when introducing me to one of the new partners in a business venture. I didn't consider it much to brag about, but he made it a point to state how impressive it was and it seems the new colleague agreed (I just did my job to the very best of my ability, but apparently that's very rare).
It sometimes pays dividends to be autistic.

Ufff, I have a brother and a lot of friends with autism (which... Is weird to have too many?)
Anyways, there are soo many simplifications and things that are not true (not universally) about autism that really hurts me to listen.
Every autist I know doesn't really understand organization or schedule. In fact their houses like that meme (the one abut having a lot of noise, a really close fan, and a disorganised room to be just focused).
And the Savant thing... A lot of autist people talk about their hyperfixation. Put a person overly fixated on a theme, put him next to someone who doesn't know anything about history or humanities or art (usually medics and psychologist huh) and people would read an autist as some kind of savant.

I don't think that marines being fine with eye contact or lacking social anxiety is a problem with them also being autistic.
After all, eye contact can be frightening because it lets you feel exposed, but marines are trained to face off with terrifying threats. A human staring at them would no longer be a worry.
Also the fear of people not liking you I believe stems from a fear of being ostracised and alone. Marines have complete faith that their chapter accepts them, their serfs are used to their ways and defer to them or at least talk to them with respect. Why would they care if some random general gives them a scowl? They outrank them in every way.
