My major major concern with doing something like this on the windsheild is getting distortion once the scratch is gone. Did you notice any distortion in the glass afterwards even in the slightest bit? A shimmering of light over the area at night? Modern day glass is thinner than it used to be.

Hey John… Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Sorry if you’ve already answered this a in a previous post, but what speed did you put your cordless drill? I know they usually only come in TWO speeds. Was it set to the highest? I went ahead and ordered the product, so I’m hoping it will take out this dang minor rock scratch I just got last week due to a big wall of slush hitting me with a small rock getting aught under my wiper blade. Also, would it behoove me to tape off the section of the scratch? The windshield is only two months old. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for watching. Yes, the highest speed possible is what I went with. Take your time and don’t let the windshield get too hot. I didn’t tape anything off and I really can’t tell, so I don’t think that you need to. Let me know how it works out for you.
Hi John, yes I do actually have a corded drill haha! That being said, what speed should I go with? Also, how long would you go over the scratch before you’d rest and then put water?
It states that you should have it on the fasted setting. When you are snaring you will see the water dry up quickly. Keep it lubricated and take breaks so it doesn’t get too hot.
Hi John, just a final follow up. Just got done performing this task on my windshield as I had a wiper arm streak from a storm I drove through that took off my blade. Yes, you’re absolutely right that you MUST have a high speed drill and must watch the heat. I took tons of break and used water constantly b/c I didn’t want to crack the windshield. Also, my first white pad got destroyed early somehow and I was so lucky to have the 2nd. It takes a lot of elbow grease and patience to get the look you want. In the end, I still have a slight streak but nothing very noticeable. The product works great and if I wouldn’t have destroyed the first pad I prob would of tried for the last little bit but I was very cautious about the heat and just stopped! Do you have any idea what type of pad that is so maybe buy aftermarket? 👍👍

Good question. I was trying to make it as level as possible. I didn’t want a wave in the glass.
@@JohnEngel you'd obviously need to be pretty careful not to make a 'channel'...oo0o0ohh I can just see myself diving right in there and it all ending up a swear-fest
My major major concern with doing something like this on the windsheild is getting distortion once the scratch is gone. Did you notice any distortion in the glass afterwards even in the slightest bit? A shimmering of light over the area at night? Modern day glass is thinner than it used to be.
I have been lucky. It was so bad with the scratch that now it’s so much better.
Did you end up doing the whole windshield?
put the drill on 1
All it does is when you use the power tool it just takes the cleaner stuff deeper into the stretch and that's why you can't see it no more but when it's rains all the stretches come back to life
So far that hasn’t been the case.
I have a vertical scratch on the rear passenger window glass, do you think I might be able to use this technique on the side windows? I think a tree branch caused the scratch.
Absolutely. Just go slow. You don’t want to hear the glass up too much too quick.
@@JohnEngel thank you John!
Can I do this without the machine lol
Anyone ever notice how the scratches always happen on the drivers side.
Right in your line of sight. I totally agree. 😂
What product would I use to remove scratch/small nicks from a stone from my windshield?
You could try something like this.
ua-cam.com/video/63wfgZZZYL4/v-deo.html
They probably mean don't use a drill, use an orbital polisher.
@@ctrlaltdebug that’s a great point.
As soon as you said you read the instructions, you lost me! hahahaha!
Lol. I know. I was disappointed in myself but I wanted to make sure the product came out right
I'm surprised that window didn't crack when you heated it up and then sprayed cold liquid on it
Not cold but room temp.
can you still see good?
Much better than before.
Harpish Semi-chrome polish will work. I'm weiry of trying barkeepers friend. That may be too rough. Toothpaste would hardly do anything along with Coke. 🐀🐾
spray bottle for the water
Great point.
Once i got into paint and polish i got rid of all my battery powered bs lol
My arms are too weak. Lol.
My dumb ass used a brown scuffpad and wd-40 to remove tree sap from my window. Now it is scratched.
Same same same. I just did same yesterday and now my eyes just see those scratches as soon as I go near my car.
@@RizzyKay96 yea it sucks. 😭
I have Porsche that a co-worker Dripped ceramic coating on the windshield without knowledge of doing so until the entire car was completely finished. He then noticed a drip of about 6inches long and 1inch wide that has etched the windshield does anybody have a solution to our problem ? We both have been Detailing cars for over 25 years and we're stumped
I’m not sure why it would have etched into the glass. This product is good for smaller scratches.
What is the name of the kit?….say it..show it…”show and tell”
I got you. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RAQGXC/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=engelgroup-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001RAQGXC&linkId=e6bee5afc95cfad0b5c137322e62f44c

Save your money. I had some very light scratches over about 20 square inches on a side vehicle window. None of the scratches could be felt. Spent hours with this kit just on this area. Anticipated I would need more than what came in the kit, so ordered more discs. Used a total of 7 each green/blue just on this section, because they only last a couple minutes each if they're actually removing anything. In the end, ALL of the scratches remain, though a little less obvious. Not worth the money or effort.
@@cap9115 that’s a shame. I hate to hear this.
My brand new AMG service centre went AGAINST buffing it, i only I “HAVE” to replace the windshield 😡
lol. That sounds exactly like what Ferrari told me.
U have that expensive cars and u don't want to buy new glass 😂😂😂
Lol. You obviously have not looked at how much this cost.
Of course you do not buy things you do not need.
Turn the music down or turn your voice up at beginning..
Supremely annoying
Are you talking about the 10 second intro clip?
Love your video, but your intro is way too long.
Thank you so much. That is actually very helpful. I love the positive way you said it. Much better than what I am used to on the internet. Lol.
