The rise of video game music

- Опубліковано 4 лют 2023
- Just as video games have become more sophisticated and detailed, so has the music composed for video games, with lush orchestral scores written to fit an individual's gameplay. Correspondent Conor Knighton looks at how the field of video game music has exploded, with symphony concerts of video game music. He also talks with "Old World" composer Christopher Tin, who is among the first to be nominated for a Grammy Award for music written specifically for video games and other interactive media.

It's baffling that it's taken so long to acknowledge game composers. Guys like Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, and Marty O'Donnell deserve a lifetime achievement for their contributions to the field.
Yuzo Koshiro too
yuzo koshiro!
Masashi Hamauzu as well.
David Wise and Grant Kirkhope need to be on that list as well
Clint Bajakian was a composer for LucasArts games and deserves a lifetime achievement as well.
How are video game composers not taken seriously? Are you kidding me? Whoever composed for Persona 5 should have like 3 Grammys by now.
Persona 🗑 tho fam
The music was amazing, especially in Royale
@@chutcentral
Just like your opinion
Indeed! Chris Sawyer’s games had some of the best tunes, throughout my young life!
@@chrisfinch8637 but before that Konji Kondo and Nobou Uematsu should get a grammy first
The Halo 3 soundtrack can stand toe to toe with almost any movie soundtrack of the last 20 years.
It's better than the vast majority of them tbh, only a few can top it.
So many action movies have now a days have soundtracks made go end genetically into the background. Old Halo did not do that and pumped up its moments with equally epic melodies and scores!
facts
@@robsonclark9678 not hans zimmer movie scores tho
so goated.
Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori absolutely deserve a Grammy for their work on Halo and Destiny.
Agreed. I was hoping they would drop Martin O'Donnells name in this piece.
It's criminal that none of their music was sampled for this video
@@Dubitz Actually it was, @ 1:22 for Halo 3.
Koji Kondo deserves an honorary award for his contributions to video games soundtracks. His music has defined so many of our video game experiences over the last three decades.
New Zelda game in a few months.
He has literally defined Two Centuries of music.
Yes! I was looking for this comment!!
He's deserves everything just for yoshi's island
For sure! Him and Nobuo Uematsu. The two video game soundtrack LEGENDS!
It's only taken nearly 40 years tor video game music and scores to be taken seriously 🤦🏽♂
Literally, haha 😂 They are about 20 years too late, I think
By who? satin worshiping elitists? Why does that matter?
yes
Interesting they mention "Bleeps and bloops" like you can't do much with 8-bit music. Megaman was literally called "Rockman" in Japan because of it's musical element. Composers of video games have taken the music they make seriously for decades.
And STILL they think it's all Super Mario Bros. and Pac Man. lol
My son loves Halo's music. When I asked him what was he playing in the car he said it was music from Halo. I love it now too.
Call of Duty, Battlefield & Tekken it's the game music
DONT LISTEN TO nier;automata music, you'll get addicted to it!
@@nekojin1164 they had us in the first half not gonna lie
@@vectorthehop3945 lmao
I honestly prefer listening to video game music over chart-toppers. They have a sense of atmosphere that not only draws you in, but they can also elicit certain emotions without the need for words. Plus with the addition of leitmotifs for long-running franchises, even new songs can make you feel nostalgic, more so than some movie soundtracks.
Same here. I prefer video game music and music composed for films. I get so annoyed when people say either isn't real music.
Definitely wish they had interviewed Marty O’Donnell. The pieces that he wrote for the Halo franchise give me chills. I even have them in my iTunes library, and frequently listen to them.
I completely agree. I was just listening to Farthest Outpost from Halo 3 earlier today.
Also Michael Salvatori who also worked on Halo and also did Destiny 1 and 2. Before he did video game music he did Flintstones Vitamin commercials with Marty O'Donnell. Something I learned from Nostalgia Critic
He’d go on a rant about how he’s the best person ever
Only if they wanted to get a cease and desist
The original Halo theme still gives me goosebumps. Absolutely iconic!
Those blips and bloops are just as remarkable in their own way as modern orchestral scores. Composers and programmers working under tight hardware and software constraints conspired to create some incredible pieces. I'm still blown away by the music for _Silver Surfer,_ an 8-bit, Nintendo Entertainment System game that sounds just as out of this world as its titular character.
You could argue there was more innovation and skill needed to work under those constraints than traditional composers
Seriously! There are a ton of videos breaking down the engineering behind composing for the SNES and Nintendo 64, and frankly the constraints created some of the most iconic music ever. Koji Kondo alone has written music as recognizable and ubiquitous as the greatest western art music composers.
Tim Follin is an eccentric legend. If you think that's good, go listen to the title theme of Pictionary (NES).
And the boss theme from Plok!
@@TheNobleShade I will check them out soon! Thanks!
@@HayTatsuko Yes! Anything by Follin is great. There's another lesser known composer named Alberto Gonzalez you might like too. Check out the Smurf's Nightmare Game Boy Color soundtrack - Specifically the "Mysterious Planet" and "Aqua" songs. They're amazing.
Lets not forget that movie score composer Michael Giacchino cut his teeth on video game soundtracks. Medal of Honor: Frontline is still my favorite score of his.
Imo, it's his best music, even over all his film scores. My favorites are Frontline, Airborne, and Medal of Honor (1999).
I agree, it’s really amazing. I feel like Marty O’Donnel gets so much more recognition for Halo but Frontline’s score is just so high quality. The variety of emotions, the complexity of instrumentation, melodies as memorable as a John William’s score- it’s probably the best Video game soundtrack ever followed by Skyrim.
Oh hey isn’t that the guy that did rogue one?
Can we retroactively award Nobuo Uematsu every Grammy he would've/should've gotten for his Final Fantasy contributions? Or a Lifetime Achievement Grammy?
I was so surprised to not see at least one Uematsu composition in this video!
YESSSSS
No. He should definitely get some, but by no means every year...
I *would* be absolutely down for him getting the (first) Lifetime Achievement award in this category, though.
Yoko Shimomura for Kingdom Hearts series as well.
No
I didn’t know I needed to hear a chiptune version of the Sunday morning theme song… But I’m very glad that I did
Gives off some 80s vibes, as well as takes us back to Charles Kuralt, from when he used to host the show. He was a CBS News legend.
One of my personal favorite is Metroid prime. The music still holds up. It’s so atmospheric and immersive.
Metroid music is so underrated, it's just as influential as many others but never gets spoken about in the same breath as Zelda for some reason.
Super Metroid set the precedent of what the genre would become
I feel in love with metroid prime because of the music years before I'd even own the game. Thank you Super Smash Bros Brawl and the amazing Subspace Emissary for introducing me to it
The amount of incredible music that has already been made for games is insane and sucks they cant get awards for it. Off the top of my head, The Witcher 3, Skyrim theme, Elden Ring, Halo, Assassins creed, Civilization 6 theme, Ace combat series, Cyberpunk, The last of us, Zelda, Battlefield theme, etc so many to count.
Don't care about the Grammy's, but I'm glad to see the recognition for game soundtracks!
But that could be the subject for the Game Awards.
music is a very important part of any videogame, it allows the player to connect with the characters and the story and be more immersed in the game. good to see composers getting the recognition they rightfully deserve.
This essay gives real short shrift to how great some of the old game scores were. Just because they used square wave and sawtooth waves didn't mean the music was any less moving.
Mostly JRPG songs such as from Final Fantasy, Nier, or Kingdom Hearts are absolutely divine to listen to. Frankly, there's no word that could describe these songs when you listen to them, and they're objectively better than what's usually being nominated in the Grammys (not to say modern or mainstream music is bad, some are just as great).
Would be nice if one day people will have Dearly Beloved or the Prelude theme in mind when they think of VG music and appreciate it more.
Dearly Beloved from Kingdom Hearts is beautiful!
JRPGs almost always deliver. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has in my opinion the best soundtrack in videogames.
FF13 made me want to learn the piano and here I am 13 years later making my own music
"Best Soundtrack in Video Games" or as it could be called "The Uematsu".
I've seen "Play! - A Video Game Symphony" twice and it's a great show. It's got an impressive cross-section of people in the audience; from children who have probably never been in a concert hall to geriatrics who have probably never picked up a controller. Everyone was drawn together by the music.
I have been listening to video game soundtracks since 1999's Medal of Honor by Michael Giachino. For over 20 years I've said the soundtracks do not get the respect they deserve. Now they are finally getting recognized, whicjbis great, but it feels like a slap to the face to all the talented artists ignored for over a decade +.
What a great game! It used to scare tf out of me as a kid haha
Glad someone mentioned Medal of Honor. The music was film-level quality over 20 years ago, but pieces like this suggest only now is it actually at the same level as film music.
I love that soundtrack, I remember looking for it back when UA-cam started. I'm baffle it took this long for games to have their own grammy award.
MIchael Giacchino deserves an honorary Grammy for VG music.
Frontline is just legendary. Those melodies and the atmospheres. It has such variety of emotions. I feel transported by it.
There’s also some other MOH games he did, Secret Weapons over Normandy, and the main themes for Mercenaries: Playground of destruction. Even the THe Lost World game soundtrack he did has some cool stuff.
I love segments like this about the video game industry. I especially love that you talked with Christopher Tin! I was fortunate to meet him once when I was in LA. I had a great time chatting about his work on the Civilization games.
Christopher Tin! He's an absolute genius!
Jesper Kyd is basically the John Williams of Video Games. He gave us Ezio's Family, the theme we all recognize as the official anthem to the Assassin's Creed Franchise. Jeremy Soule composed the score for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, most of the Harry Potter movie tie-in games, and Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. These composers and countless others deserve recognition and our praise for creating such works of art.
Man there are so many great video game osts, I couldn’t even remember all of them. This isn’t just good news for gamers, but for everyone. Good music is good music.
The music in Ace Combat really also deserves a shout-out. Keki Koyabashi and others really deserved to be well known, for their music is extremely good.
Especially Call Of Duty as well, especially the ones composed by Hans Zimmer..
4:35 Nocturne chads....
Lol did not expect to see Nocturne in a CBS video
😭😭😭
its a singleplayer title so which one of them is actually controlling the game?
Yoko Shimomura deserves recognition.
Awesome for them to pay respects to how video game music always make the game much better
Christopher Tin's "Sogno di Volare" (the theme from Civilization 6) is one of the most inspiring pieces of orchestral music of the past decade. I would love to have the chance to hear this and other game music played live, and I hope more city and regional orchestras will consider concerts of the type the Utah Symphony put on. There is a large potential audience for this music, including people who might not ordinarily attend classical performances.
Soundtrack has always been a part of gaming, improving along with controls and graphics etc; but you don’t need to play modern consoles/games to experience these amazing tracks.
The Super Nintendo for ex, and all it’s amazing soundtracks ie fzero,dk country games, final fantasy, super Metroid….
Jun Ishikawa (Kirby), David Wise (Donkey Kong Country) and Koji Kondo (Mario/Zelda) have composed some of the best pieces of music ever, not just video game music.
Zelda's main theme makes me want to get a sword and shield and march through the countryside.
If you didn't know by now
Video Game Music Is Epic and Legendary
Like you will Never understand
The soundtracks for the Donkey Kong Country games by David Wise are some of the best game music out there. Because they were made for an older system and aren’t recorded with an orchestra, way too many people ignore them unfortunately
Facts. Returns is mostly rearrangements but Tropical Freeze has tens of new masterpieces.
As someone who listens to a lot of OST's from games, movies, etc. it is a real treat to see video game music given a fair shot. There are some mind-blowing compositions and brilliant composers who will go down in history that have been ignored for these kinds of rewards.
glad they're getting some deserved recognition. skyrim and witcher 3 are couple of my faves.
You do realize they get paid, right? You're acting like they do this for free.
The recognition got bigger once composers from the movie industry, like Hans Zimmer, and Lorne Balfe got into making music for CoD or the AC games
@@I_WANT_MY_SLAW All of the composers get paid, no matter if its a movie, series or game, it's just that these ones don't get the recognition they deserve
@@infinitespace2520 the paycheck is the recognition. Not having to wait on line at unemployment is the recognition.
I'm glad the gaming music industry is finally getting some of the credit it has deserved for a while. Halo, Mario, God of War, Zelda, Destiny...the list goes on regarding legendary soundtracks that go toe-to-toe with blockbuster film OSTs.
I personally think Marty O'Donnell's work on the Halo franchise is some of the best music we've ever seen across all media.
Oh look, it’s something that’ll actually get me to watch the Grammy’s!
News Programs when they talk about video games: "Mario. Make sure to mention something about the mario"
In this case, it may be justified, since many people who would not likely take video game soundtracks seriously probably recognize that melody and could concede that it's a well-known song.
To be fair, Mario music and Koji Kondo's work are both incredibly popular and influential to many young musicians today.
I would rather watch a 2-3 hour Grammy based Video Game award show then the actual Grammys itself.
Every musician interviewed in this video and im sure much more seem very genuine and wholesome, who’s goal is to make music to the games we love memorable. They dont seem in it for the fame and glamour and i love that. There doesnt seem to be ego, drama, or toxicity at all, which is the dark factor in the music industry we know/ are exposed of. These musicians deserve this ceremony the most & i wish them nothing but the absolute best and many thanks. :)
I will forever cherish the Halo 3 music, my personal favorite!
So it make sens that The Game Awards is competing with this among others.
Mario Galaxy deserves a reward
The Minecraft soundtrack. Probably some of the best music ever created
Finally, I mean it's crazy it's taken so long. I get that not as many people hear these songs because they'd have to play the games and not just here it on the radio. But many of these scores are masterpieces of music. And just as was stated in the video, due to the nature of the games the songs can set more atmosphere and tell more story than many generic movie scores.
I don't necessarily agree with the nominations they chose, not that they're bad, just I think there are better. Hopefully they'll be more informed next time. It's also a shame they are only starting now, because they've missed so many incredible scores.
Ok I like some videogame music, none of it is master work though lol. I don't they deserve a reward, I think they did fine, but they aren't Beethoven, and this is a weird situation, now all of a sudden vgm seeks validation through the news, because obviously all the games suck now, so you gotta have something to focus on right. Musics not even as good as people say usually lol. Like it's ok but it's not that good. I could see sia getting a Grammy but not the guy from kingdom hearts or some bs game like that
@@baplotnik people that are getting Grammy's aren't Beethoven either.. also if you want to talk masterworks listen to God Of War, Persona 5, Halo, all of these games have timeless music and scores.
@@RyuPhrog mmm I disagree. Classic Halo, Skyrim, yeah sure they got the best vgm soundtracks as far as most people know, but they are certainly not timeless, and without the game they are half as cool. I don't think the Grammys are necessarily for celebrating good music, it's for successful music. If you ever make a vgm soundtrack or get into it, no one cares, and it's not the greatest music ever. It's made to be background music for a game, it's cool and engaging, but I'm impressed by the whole picture, not this one section that thinks they deserve a reward/recognition beyond what they've had so far. I played all those games and I guess halo is fun, but all the other ones, you can keep em lol. Makes you happy, leaves me disappointed so hey, to each their own. I won't admit the title of mastery to this stuff. There isn't going to be another Halo 3, there might be another good elder scrolls game, but I mean it's all aspects of a fantasy. Only master chief is rocking out, while you are him. The music is good. But saying these games are master works? Come on man lol
@@RyuPhrog and also, I already knew that Beethoven never got a Grammy what u trying to say bro
Uncharted, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts has the best music I've ever heard video game music is incredible!
It's amazing that this is being considered now after all these years. It's like the Grammy organizers waited for games to basically resemble real life and feature triple AAA actors on the regular to initiate recognition for it.
Or until publishers saw they could use the literal boatloads of money to submit their games
I listen to video game music 10 hours a day at work so I can feel like I'm having fun
The simple fact that music in games has to be dynamic is alone worthy of recognition.
I've played many types of games and loveee video game music to the point where i would listen to it during free time or when working out. Everything action pack, 8-bit style or the beautiful melodies from JRPGs. ❤
Mick Gordon's work on the DOOM soundtrack made that game successful
Greg Edmonson deserved a Grammy years ago for his gorgeous work on the Uncharted games, as does Gustavo Santoalla for the Last of Us, John Paesano for Spider-Man, Gordy Haab on various Star Wars games, and of course Bear McCreary for his work on God of War. So many diamonds of video game soundtracks have been released in the last 20 years, that it is such a shame it has taken this much time for them to be recognized.
Gran Turismo series should be included in this. Smooth contemporary fusion jazz.
Video game music has always been iconic, wtf you mean "come a long way". I mean, the best Bond theme (which always get oscar awards for music) was done in MGS3.
8bit and 16bit composers were legendary. they did so much with so little and still had such impact.
Donkey Kong Country soundtrack is a bop
So many good composers out there. How did Jeremy Soule not get an award yet for his music in Guild Wars and The Elders Scrolls? Or Koji Kondo for his work on Nintendo's Mario and Zelda games. So many artist that deserve as much praise for their work as the legendary games they worked on.
Who has a childhood and understands how good game music is.
Wait until CBS Morning discovers the one who wrote the jingle to the Flintstones vitamins commercial is the man who composed the original Halo trilogy soundtrack.
Wait till they realize film composers like Giacchino started out doing orchestral video game music over 20 years ago. That Medal of Honor music from 1999 wasn't featured means they still have a lot to learn about video game music.
Mass Effect, God of War, Cuphead, Doom. Videogame scores cover every genre and style now and the amount of talent involved has exploded.
I love how the video ended with "The Sun Rises" from Okami.
Kristopher Maddigan has reignited a passion for big band. I wish he could’ve gotten a spotlight.
That man deserves all of the awards for Cuphead. Brilliant work!
Torn with this news..yes, music awards like the grammy's finally recognizing video game music is a step forward and the nominees deserve praise, but still sad because it only seems to focus on games that are "popular" in the US. Hope they can broaden their horizons further.
P.S. If anyone is interested, listen to the following hallmarks of video game music
Nobuo Uematsu
Yoko Shimomura
Masayoshi Soken
Keiichi Okabe
In Uematsu's case (not sure about the others), his work ranges from the 8-bit era to full blown orchestra arrangements.
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time had the best soundtrack of all time.
It's definitely one of the best. I really rate the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack
Highly recommend Super Guitar Bros' full album of its music, since Nintendo will never release a separate OST
I have played almost every zelda game and really don't think its soundtrack is much to write home about compared to a lot of others like ori, hollow knight, professor layton or most jrpgs with my absolute favorite being xenoblade
The condescension in this segment is staggering. "Today's games..." Try "for the last thirty-odd years."
Koni Kondo, Nobu Uematsu, Nobuyoshi Suzuki, Christopher Lennertz to name a handful.
Christopher Lennertz is a legend in my mind if only for his work on Medal of Honor Rising Sun. The main menu theme is amazing and gives me chills.
Long overdue.
0:23 I just time traveled to when I was 10 years old.
Bear McCreary's God of War and Ragnarok soundtracks are simply amazing.
This is so awesome too see! Some of THE most epic music scores you will ever come across are from video game soundtracks. It's lovely to see that these composers are finally getting the chance to be legitimately recognized and marked down in history in a more meaningful and validating way. Now that Grammys are on the table, the music will only get more epic from here.
Long overdue! I just hope they retroactively award Nobuo Uematsu, Grant Kirkhope, and many others a Grammy or two for their contributions...
Good video game music usually sticks with me way more than any other music.
It's probably because it's tied in with an experience. Ultimately lifting the entire experience. And because of that it is more memorable and meaningful than just "a song".
Also, a lot of modern game music is just amazing period. And having that tied into something more to compliment it just makes it better.
Hearing the Deep Stone Lullaby in Destiny 2 made me come to a full stop just to take in the music and environment.
And both Ori games are just absolute perfection.
Glad the mainstream is finally waking up and giving video games the recognition they deserve as a creative medium.
From 8 bit to full orchestras. What a crazy trip it has been
Some of the greatest soundtracks ever have been composed for videogames: Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Zelda TWW, Zelda BoTW, XC 1,2, 3, DK Country 2 and TF, Fire Emblem TH, FFX, Chrono Trigger, Shovel Knight, and we can keep on going.
If you listen to some of the music from Mickey’s Speedway USA on Nintendo 64, as well as the Roller Coaster Tycoon and Locomotion games by Chris Sawyer, and some of the music in the Wii Channels and Wii Sports, etc., then you’ll be looking back at some major nostalgia that you heard, as you were playing.
The most underrated art form. Love to see this coverage
Anyone who says video game music TODAY has come a long way from video game music 20-30 years ago or says it NOW is on par with the film industry has never listened to any of the Medal of Honor soundtracks.
Seriously, game music was on par with film 20 years ago.
Lol right? It’s like no one knows who Micael Giacchino is and yet he’s the top movie composer right now in terms of work he’s getting.
I love how the thumbnail is Master Chief. The franchise is absolutely GOATED for music. Thanks Marty O’Donnell!
Shoutout to Austin Wintory for composing the only video game soundtrack (Journey) nominated for a Grammy before the addition of this new category!
Yeees! Journey’s soundtrack is an absolutely gem. I wish they got him on here tooo
I was very surprised to see shin megami tensei on the news. Had to come to this video since I couldn't press back on the television.
Boomers keep talking about games as if it’s a niche and not a cultural phenomenon
Dude everyone talking about the older game composer but literally so many games have such good soundtracks. From AAA games to indie games. Halo, Civilization, Hollow Knight, Persona. Some games from international countries have caught up and surpassed the older games. The music in video games add such depth to the game. Personally, Genshin Impact's OST's have surpassed my expectations for a game especially a gacha game. I would genuinely buy the soundtrack by itself and completely forget about the game if that was an option.
Anyways point is video game music has evolved from it's early days to big hits and long lasting scores. I think anyone born between the 90's and the 00's can recall the Halo them from out of thin air. That was back when CD drives were the main form of storage. Just shows how game soundtracks have been underated for a long while.
Video games in general are not taken as a serious art form when they really should be
This is such a great step towards this incredible music being fully recognized. The only remaining step, imo, is when the concerts featuring videogame music stop featuring the visuals of the games and just focus on the music (it can, in fact, stand on its own).
I still have the Coleco Vision game Venture in my head and its been 40 years
One of my favorite soundtracks have been from god of war ragnarok. It’s truly incomparable to a movie soundtrack.
I love listening to old ladies talk about video games.
Halo, Mass Effect, Zelda, Red Dead, Pokemon, Skyrim, absolutely amazing soundtracks…..
So, the Grammy's recognize this category of music only 2-3 decades late; probably not bad for them. (Was about 2 decades between the first rap album and the first rap category award.)
I guess we won't talk about when Ennino freakin' Morriconne was asked to compose music for video games. Video game music is real, and personally I find it better than most modern music from other artists.
For real? Which game?
@@abnarain8359 I'm pretty sure it's Metal Gear Solid 4. Harry-Gregson did most of the other works, but Ennino Moriconne did have one piece. Admittedly, I don't know everything about it, but I do know "Here's For You" was written by Moriconne.
Most movies are like video games now too, like Best Picture nominee lol Top Gun. God help us.
They featured three of the Best Games of All Time: Super Mario Bros, Halo 3, and BioShock. They need to go back and give them awards or legacy awards at the Grammys.
I mean Hans Zimmer and crew should get an award for how they scored Call of Duty: MW2
This category is criminally overdue
I don't care one bit about the grammys but at least someone is giving some video game composers some much deserved recognition. I feel like the interviewer and writers of this piece are still out of touch with the vast depth of video game music. Not bad examples per se, but there's so much more that could have been said and structured in a way to tell/show someone who knows nothing about the topic what they are potentially missing. But they do get props for including Shadow of the Colossus.
Still so much more that could be mentioned. Take your pick
Zelda, Halo, Skyrim, Last of Us, Spiderman, Uncharted, Batman Arkham city, Final Fantasy etc etc etc.
Also someone needs to give Koji Kondo an award for all his work.
I was hoping Sonic frontiers would be nominated but congrats on getting their own category
Video game music has surpassed mainstream music and movie music by quite a large margin. It’s so much more than orchestral music.
How is it that in 2023 there are people who STILL talk about video games with the same anachronistic contempt that used to be said about, "those silly talking pictures that will never catch on and are an insult to the theatre". Good lord people, lol.
That opening song is so good!
Great Video Game Orchestral Music:
Brian Tyler - MW3 Theme
Nier:Automata - Fortress of Lies
Nier:Automata - Crumbling Lies
Nier:Automata - Significance
Sarah Schachner - Piccadilly Circus (MW2019)
Sarah Schachner - MW2.22 Theme (Unreleased)
This is a topic I'd never thought I'd see on here.
Michael Giacchino came from video games. That should say everything. Medal of Honor Frontline is still my favorite work of his too.
