    You should use all positions even if they are few cm away, because more listening positions gives more accurate calibration and better sound.

      I agree, but we hardly ever sit on that couch so I figured it wasn't that important.
      Plus the instructions say the next seating position shouldn't be more than 2 feet away and that couch was farther than that.
      The diagram shows a home theater seating area with stadium seating which we don't have.
      The sound we're getting is fantastic. The surround and Atmos speakers are working great!

    How big is that room?

    • @BetaCygniBlog
      @BetaCygniBlog  3 роки тому

      Great question. Thanks!
      It's 13 feet (TV to couch direction) deep x 16 feet wide.
      I should have listed that in the description (I just updated it).

      @@BetaCygniBlog thanks for the info. I want a 7.1.4 system, but the space I have for it is only 9ft x 9ft.

      @@vmd1293 You're welcome.
      For your room, I'd skip the back surround speakers and do a 5.1.4 if you have some way to install the Atmos speakers in the ceiling.
      If you have to use Atmos height speakers mounted on the wall (like I did), I'd go for 5.1.2, with just the Atmos speakers in the front, up near the ceiling.
      I go over the speakers I selected and why in the first part of my series on upgrading my 8-year-old Home Theater System:

      @@BetaCygniBlog i will sit in the middle of that space so I should skip the side surround, not the rear surround, correct?

      @BetaCygniBlog  3 роки тому

      @@vmd1293 If you're going to sit in the middle then speakers behind as well as on the sides would work.
      I assumed that if you only had 9 feet, you wouldn't sit that close to the TV (4.5 feet away).
      There's a rule of thumb to sit between 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal size of the TV:
      www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/home-entertainment/tips-and-solutions/sitting-too-close-your-tv%3F-why-distance-matters#:~:text=A%20general%20guideline%20is%20to,8.3%20feet%20from%20the%20screen.
      To take your room:
      4.5/1.5 = 3 feet = 36"
      4.5/2.5 = 1.8 feet = 21.6"
      So by that rule of thumb, the largest TV you should have if you're going to sit 4.5 feet away is 36".
      How big is your TV?
      My TV is 55" diagonally.
      55" * 1.5 = 82.5" = 6.875 feet
      55" * 2.5 = 137.5" = 11.458 feet.
      When I'm sitting on my couch, my eyes are 9 feet away from my TV which is right in the middle of that range.
      Using the 1.5 figure, my room could support a 65" TV (65"*1.5=97.5" = 8.125 feet) , but the cabinet our TV is on won't support that large of TV (too wide), plus we were upgrading from 36" so 55" was a good choice for us.

      Beta Cygni yes, I called crutchfield and they are gonna let me return it for another, is there a way we can DM and maybe fix my issue? I have Twitter and so on

      @BetaCygniBlog  4 роки тому

      @@officialradaqHopefully the new one will work better. To eliminate any issues with your TV, I would use a PC or Mac monitor and connect the HDMI output port on the back of the Denon (HDMI2) to the input HDMI of the monitor. If it shows up clear on the monitor, it should work on the TV.
      I'm not sure I can help you much remotely, but my Twitter handle is @BetaCygniBlog

    Hi, from the menu under audio settings i can't find dialog control which it says from the manual that can be adjusted to 0-6db. I can only see dialog enhancer under option. Please help. Thanks

    • @BetaCygniBlog
      @BetaCygniBlog  3 роки тому +1

      Are you talking about page 185 of the x4700h manual where it says:
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Control
      Adjust the volume of dialog in movies, vocals in music, etc. so these
      can be heard more easily.
      0 - 6 (Default : 0)
      0 This can be set when a DTS:X signal that is compatible with the Dialog Control
      function is input.
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      It sounds like you have to have a DTS:X audio signal as an input. Here's a discussion of that type of audio signal:
      www.whathifi.com/us/advice/dtsx-what-it-how-can-you-get-it
      I assume the reason you don't see that control is that you don't have a DTS:X input signal.
      DTS:X is a rival to Dolby Atmos.
      Some movies have DTS:X sound some have Atmos or other formats.
      ================================
      +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
      ================================
      In any case, what is your goal?
      Are you trying to make it easier to hear dialog in what you're watching?
      If that's your goal, then you can adjust the volume of the center channel speaker. This is explained on page 182 of the x4700h manual:
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Center Level Adjust
      Adjusts the center channel volume to clarify the dialog for all sources.
      o Center
      Adjusts the volume output from the center channel.
      -12.0 dB - +12.0 dB (Default: 0.0 dB)
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      @@BetaCygniBlog thank you! Very well explained and very helpful.
      I also have an problem connecting the receiver to the HEOS app from my android phone. Keep on searching but can't find device and they both on same network. Same with the Spotify connect, I have premium account but on Spotify when i search for compatible device the receiver won't show up. Any idea or experience???

      @@DimplesDon9 Sorry, I have an iPhone.
      I've had good luck with the Denon 2016 AVR remote app. That shows you a lot of info about the receiver and even has a [HEOS] button on it that takes you that app if you have it installed. I haven't installed HEOS since I don't use my home theater system for playing music very often and I don't have any other smart speakers.
      So try the Denon 2016 AVR remote app (I assume it's out for Android too). If that can find your receiver then you maybe able to figure out why HEOS can't find it.
