Love this receiver. Hope you have a fan on top of your AVR. I have a fan that pushes the hot air out to the front. Keeping it cool will make it last a long time.
I do. I repurposed some quiet PC fans that I turn on using a smart plug that's switched on as part of the system start up by my universal remote. I cover that in this part of my multi-part series about upgrading my Home Theater system: ua-cam.com/video/Ohf6IJnvgkg/v-deo.html
Hello, i have the same setup as you, c9+x4700h, and i have a question. When you have eARC on the c9, can you make the setup menu of the AVR to be displayed on the tv? I can only make the c9 display the avr setup menu if the earc option on the tv is set to off. THX
Yes, in the video (1:13) It takes 2 tries to get it work. I didn't turn eARC off. Not sure why it takes 2 tries. I just tried it. It is very inconsistent. I select HDMI 2 and bring up the window and press [Setup] on the Receiver remote a couple of times and that usually works. Sometimes I have to close and open the HDMI 2 window more than once and then press [Setup] on the receiver remote a couple of times to get it to come up. If turning off eARC temporarily works, then I'd keep doing that. At least it's consistent. It's no big deal to turn it back on.
How are you liking the X4700H? I am still struggling with whether to connect components directly to the C9 or the receiver itself and use the receiver as a hub? The video capabilities of the receiver are supposedly outstanding, right? I think Yamaha might be the last company ? to release HDMI 2.1 receivers and I don’t know whether they will offer more than 1 HDMI 2.1 port. I also read a review that said that the Denon can get pretty hot when pushed. Is that true?
It's working great! No regrets about buying the X4700H. No regrets about plugging all video sources into the LG C9 and only using the X4700H for eARC. I have two video inputs: Samsung Blu-ray Player Chromecast Ultra The upscaling of HD Blu-ray disks to 4k by the LG C9 is stunning. I don't see any reason to run video signals through the receiver, but if you want, go ahead and try it and see if you think the picture is better. LG is the expert at video processing. Denon is the expert at audio processing. Each machine is doing what it does best. eARC solves the lip-sync problem (at least with my setup). Lip-sync issues are the only reason I can think of to run a video signal through a receiver. As far as heat, it hasn't been an issue. I have a video coming out on Saturday (8/28/20) showing a heat test while running a streaming DolbyVision/Dolby Atmos movie for 2 hours. I have holes drilled in the back of the cabinet top and bottom. I also drilled some holes in the shelf that the receiver sits on. I have two PC fans placed on top of the receiver that draw air up through the receiver and out through the back of the cabinet. Over the weekend, I released three videos (Parts 9a, 9b, 9c) showing how I have the PC fans along with the sub-woofer, the Chromecast Ultra, and some ambient lights turning on when I turn on the receiver. Here's a link to Part 9a: ua-cam.com/video/_nvsu3FbZ7c/v-deo.html
Beta Cygni Thanks for the reply! How will you have room to add an Xbox and PlayStation plus the receiver to your setup with these components plugged into the TV? There’s only 4 HDMI, right and you have a blu-ray player dedicated? Also, is it true that this receiver (X4700H) is only 14.9 inches wide? Right now, the center section of my entertainment cabinet where I am going to put the receiver is 20 inches at the expense of the left and right outer cabinets which should house the PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X. I may have to enlarge these sections because the PlayStation 5 is supposed to be quite large. I don’t have room to stand it up either. I read that these new receivers have highly rated video processing (www.zkelectronics.com/receiver/denon-avr-x4700h(avc-x4700h)/usa/) so maybe it will be OK to run components through the receiver to have room to add more devices?
@@OneBlackButton I'm only going to be getting the XBox Series X. I play most of my games on my PC, but I thought it would be fun to play some with the rest of the family on the 4K TV. The other reason I'm getting the XBox Series X is that it has an internal 4k Blu-ray drive so I'm going to be retiring my old Samsung Blu-ray player. I have a number of 4k discs I've been saving to watch once I get it. If I did get a Playstation V, I'd still have an empty HDMI port on my TV since I don't have a cable box anymore. We dropped Comcast TV when I bought the LG C9 TV last year. For TV programming we're using Hulu LiveTV which comes through the Ethernet port on the back of the TV and doesn't use an HDMI port. I'm still having a hard time coming up with a reason for more than 4 HDMI ports If I had a cable TV contract and still had a cable box, I wouldn't need the Chromecast Ultra to get PBS, so the cable box would go where the Chromecast Ultra goes. So that's 1. HDMI2 is the eARC port so that's going to the Denon 4700H If I have both a XBox and a Playstation, those take up the last 2 ports. I don't need another port for a blu-ray player since the XBox covers that. Every other source (Like Apple TV, UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.) has an App that runs on the TV so you don't need a separate device. Am I missing something? If I did come up with a 5th device that's outputting video, then I could use the one HDMI 2.1 port on the back of the receiver and that should work. I suggest that you try running something (like a blu-ray player) through the receiver and then directly to the TV and let us know which is better. RE: Room for receiver My cabinet shelf is 22.5" wide. You don't really need much room on either side of the receiver, you want air flowing up through it. That's why I have mine on the upper shelf of the cabinet under the TV and I drilled large holes (using a hole saw) through the shelf so air could flow from the area below up through the receiver and out the back. Beta Cygni Are you sure? I got 14.9” wide from Amazon’s specification page for the receiver if you go by Length x Width x Height. I’m not talking about the length from the front of the receiver to the back where the connectors are.
The Denon 2311ci is a discontinued product (from at least 10 years ago), so there may not be any updates. It doesn't have an ethernet connection so you can't do it from the receiver like I show in this video. I checked the Denon website and couldn't find any firmware downloads for that receiver. I suspect because it's too old.
