Charlie with Anthrax: Jazzy and full of twists and turns.... With Pantera: a pounding metronome of madness. When one artist can elicit the emotions he can from millions. That artist is also a fan. He gets it. Thank you Drumeo for spotlighting this master metal God.
And something else everyone keeps forgetting when mentioning "I thought _____ was going to be picked" is that he was Dime and Vinnies actual IRL friend. As was Zakk. The reason they were both picked. Anyone could have picked some prodigious group of players who could learn their stuff. Charlie and Zakk were picked because they were ALSO their friends.
He never got into drugs like most of his era and also his era was active. Kids and young adults today are lazy sacks of shit that sit inside all day and are hooked on netflix and phones. I worked with teens for a while with youth stuff for years and the 90's and 2000's teens still played sports and ran around whereas the group from 2010 and on didn't touch sports, sat around and eat tons of fat foods.
Can't believe he's 61 and still at the top of his game. Great feel, great power. His story with Anthrax is amazing, as well as their later music if you haven't checked it out. His history, personality and plain flawlessness made him the best possible choice for Pantera in my mind. Legend Benante!
Charlie is the perfect choice for sitting in with Pantera. He definitely brings Vinnie back to the stage while also not losing his own identity. It is both Vinnie and Charlie playing at the same time. RESPECT! TYVM Drumeo!
25:08 Charlie benate is a perfect choice for Pantera But zakk Wylde was bad choice for a guitar player for Pantera!!! Zakk Wylde is not virtuso guitar player he has been playing the same guitar riffs since the 1980's Ive seen black label society in concert and was not at all impressed like I said zakk wylde guitar playing is still the same playing from 1980's
Zakk is a virtuso... He was killer on the first few ozzy albums BUT with that being said..there was a time when his playing got really sloppy.. too many pinch harmonics... songs sounding the same. Albums that kept getting repetitive one after another. One reason ozzy let him go after I believe the scream album? zakk isnt a horrible guitar player..but it took him time to really adapt to the pantera sound. When talks about him playing for years came up.. id tell people hes a hard rock guitarist... he isnt really a METAL guitar player.. with that being said too hes gotten better with the pantera celebration. Hes doing the floods solo pretty well. I do get your point tho. @@Toniblakmoore-ku1vf
Just saw Pantera headline Knotfest in Sydney the other day & it was so god damn good, you could close your eyes and swear that it was Vinnie behind the kit, i was blown away by how good Charlie was on the night. His approach to these tribute shows is incredible he really nailed it & gave those songs & Vinnie the respect they truly deserve
I've been an Anthrax fan and Charlie fan since middle school, and I will be 50 this year! He's aging like a fine wine and he plays just as fiercely as ever. 🖤
Another old guy checking in. I remember listening to Among The Living blasting on some big horn loaded PA speakers at the school youth center. And of course SOD on Headbanger's Ball was crucial. Now I just think it's kinda cool to see a musician from my youth who doesn't look like a grandmother.
Charlie is one of the OGs of extreme drumming. The fact that he looks as great as he did in 1992 with the same level of drumming prowess is amazing to say the least! And he's also a songwriter.
One of the hardest working drummers out there. Couldn't have gotten a better guy to do the Pantera gig.. Love the respect he gives Vinnie. Can't wait for the next Anthrax album!
God Damn! From a Die Hard Pantera fan from early the 90’s, thank you thank you thank you for putting the love and effort, passion and time into this celebration! I am one of those fans that was shedding a tear while breaking my neck screaming along to you guys in LA and San Diego, it means a lot to me and my friends who grew up blastin Pantera and watching them rise to the Kings of Metal!! Aftershock 2024 it’s on! R.I.P. Dime and Vinny In our Hearts Forever! 🤘🏻
Huge props to Charlie for achieving something noone could have expected after the brothers passed away. He absolutely nailed it but not trying to redo, or overdo Vinnie's parts, but playing them in the virtuoso way they were created. And they sound EXACTLY like on the albums, when played live. Amazing drummer, amazing person, thank you so much for bringing back the soundtrack of our youth
That’s awesome he mentioned The legend but Barker had been blasting way before puritanical. Puritanical just captured his drum sound pretty much to perfection for extreme metal. But cool shout out. So underrated
He's one of "the originals" that can still really play. So solid. Influential player. Innovator. Supposed to be a super cool dude. The Pantera stuff...he totally nails it...hit for hit. So upset that I haven't seen it yet.
I had been a HUGE Anthrax fan since I was about 12. I had the chance to meet the band at the Big 4 in NYC and was so nervous. He (and the rest of the band) could not have been nicer. Super cool and friendly.
Yes Yes and Yes, this channel has been killing it lately!!! Saw Charlie 4 times live 3 with Anthrax and last summer with Pantera easily in my top 5 favorite drummers ever!!!
Charlie had to gives us the formula, he's not getting old at all, great drummer it's great see him on Drumeo as he deserves. Special program today, we had two kits, two drummers RIP Vinnie, I would like see soon an extreme drummer like Kolias or Duplantier
Killer drummer & a pioneer. He has an interesting & original style & feel. Tight af, has an almost racing, just ahead of the timing, keep up with me feel.
I refuse to believe he is in his 60’s. If I didn’t know any better I would have guessed early to mid 40’s (hell almost late 30’s). That is absolutely insane. To still have that kind of energy and stamina is extremely impressive. Also he may not be the fanciest drummer but he is definitely one of the tightest and energetic.
Charlie Plays Pantera songs so well. Charlie's ride and snare sound so great live like in A New Level. The February 16 Pantera Show was so great in Winnipeg. But Charlies drumming on Among the Living LP is my favorite!!! Great conversation!
My favorite of the 'Big 4" drummers. Not saying he's any better than the others. I just love his style and versatility. Also, as mentioned by others, at his age he still dominates the kit. Thanks Drumeo!
Been listening to Anthrax since Fistful of Metal in 1984, 54 now and they have never disappointed. "We've Come for You All" is one of my favorite albums from them. Charlie is one of the best in the Metal community.
I'm there with you. I'll be 54 in a few months. Honestly, I got into Anthrax and SOD before I ever got into Metallica, Megadeth, or Slayer. But, I was into punk in the early to mid 80s. The "energy" in the Anthrax and SOD songs appealed to me more, af first. I chuckle at some of these comments, people amazed that he's 61 and still can play. 😂 I'm an old-school thrash metal musician (just finished laying down a rough demo of another song, last night). Oh well, they will see as they get older that ages they previously thought were "old" aren't quite as "old" as they originally thought. Minus some aches and pains, I'm still the same person, just with more wisdom from past mistakes. 😂👍🏻 My son is 18 and a drummer. He said Benante is one of his favorite drummers. He's been hearing thrash since he was in the womb (and he used to move around/kick in the womb whenever I played thrash). 😂
was there with my 3 sons, 19, 23 and 28 and my 19 yo friend who just turn 18. if you would have told me back in 2000 at Ozzfest that 24 years later i would see a rendition of Pantera with my sons I would have said you're lying
I saw him in Mexico City, December 2022, the first show with him and Zakk. It blew my mind, I had resigned myself never to see my favorite band live. I actually think Charlie played Becoming the way he demonstrated in the video (the "wrong" way). I would have loved to have seen the brothers play, but Zakk and Charlie really did well by their friends, and for us the fans!
Charlie was the perfect choice to be behind the kit for Pantera's shows. He's had a MASSIVE impact on the drumming world. Thanks Drumeo for having him on!
And this is why Charlie remains and will always remain my favourite drummer. Always been incredibly versatile. Discovering Anthrax at 17 was one of the best musical awakenings I ever had.
Charlie is just such an amazing drummer. I can't even do him justice. A very shy person. If you get Anthrax VIP tickets don't expect to meet him. I also love him so much because he does write music and as a drummer I have as well. Drummers like us are underrated. And of course SOD. Incredible!
Charlie's always been so humble about him being the MAIN songwriter of all the music Anthrax has made since like '86. Drumeo guy asks him about how he's "written some of the riffs" that have made big Anthrax songs and Charlie doesn't correct him when he very well could. I've seen him in other interviews and he never seems narcissistic about it.
That drum sound and MIX especially on Among The LIving, man i still remember how it blew me away, What a great record to listen to through headphones, so good.
I remember watching Anthrax when their first videos started showing on MTV and Headbanger's Ball. Charlie looks amazing for how long he's been around! Absolute legend.
Persistence of Time was my first intro to thrash, I was in the 5th grade and my neighbor let me borrow the cassette. He's never seen it since! Awesome stuff!
Can’t wait to watch this live! I still can’t believe we got both Mike Portnoy and Charlie on Drumeo this year. Saw the Pantera show in Quebec and I was blown away at how good it sounded while being faithful to Vinnie’s sound.
Charlie has been the epitome of metal drummers to me since I heard Anthrax in the 80’s. Such a decent, respectful, funny human. He’s humble and works hard.
Benante is a metal god, I' ve been an Anthrax fan for more than 20 years now, same for Pantera. They' re both in my top 3 metal bands of all time. Not only is a great drummer, is also write music for Anthrax! And it makes sense he playes drums in Pantera, just like it makes sense Zakk Wylde plays the guitar: not everyone knows but in the Bush era(I'm talking about the singer, not the politician) Anthrax released four albums, three of which have a feating with Dimebag (and one with Phil). The guys have always been great friends. So thank you Charlie!
It was basically a Celebration Of Life tour.. like HELLYEAH did after Vinnie had passed away! R.I.P. to 2 legends! Even in their absence their inspiration is Undeniable!! 🤘🏼 much respect to Charlie for all he’s done for Metal Music true legend as well!
Charlie is so awesome. Stellar player (guitar too), great song and riff writer and by all accounts a very good dude. I’ve been fortunate enough to see Charlie play numerous times with Anthrax and twice with the Pantera celebration. Charlie was absolutely the right guy to pay homage to his friends Dime and Vinnie……he absolutely crushes it up there. I know a lot of folks were and continue to be put off by the Pantera touring again thing and I wasn’t fully behind it either if I’m honest but I’m so glad they did it. My son is now 18yrs old and grew up to be a huge fan of Pantera (he cites them as his favourite band) and obviously never got to see the band live like I did numerous times back in the day. We went to see the first Toronto stop back in August ’23 and to look over and see the pure joy on my son’s face hearing that music played live again just confirmed to me this celebration was the right thing to do. Thank you Charlie for all the hard work you put into learning Vinnie’s work…..you absolutely did justice to it.
Been listening to Pantera for 3/4's of my life, and Mr Benante has nailed every fucking chop, and re lighten the love for Anthrax.....All Of the love for these Pioneers schooling all of the Great Pretenders!!!!!!
Thankful for this! He’s been an influence for my entire drumming life and I’m thrilled to see he’s better than ever. His closing comments about there being no “best” is so needed!
My man, I started drumming playing the whole Spreading the Disease album, and I'm soooo thankful to Charlie and how much he inspired me and still does nowadays.
Tough boi Gen Z’s that listen to Knocked Loose and Sunami and think bands like Pantera and Anthrax suck. Nothing against Knocked Loose and Sunami, but this generation seems to not give a shit about anything that came out more than 5-6 yrs ago…bands that most likely inspired the bands that they listen to.
This was just so so amazing to watch! Can’t thank enough to everyone involved! Charlie is such a beast and legend. Saw Pantera live in Tokyo when they came and it was incredible! For context, I’m an older guy and been a fan of Pantera since the early 90s but never had the chance to see them play live (for reasons) I’m so thankful for everyone involved that I could finally see them play and celebrate the amazing band that they are/were, even if it wasn’t with Dime and Vinnie RIP
Charlie is one of those drummers that never settled and stayed content with his skills & techniques. He's always adapted and studied. A versatile drummer. My top 5
I look at Charlie in a whole different light...He Really really is a great man, hardcore Bronx, Reality... just really a true wizard..wow He can just rattle off names of songs, parts of certain beats in songs...just incredible, I see why they chose him... he blew me away, I saw him live a few times with Anthrax, and he was awesome.. but he literally is a great accurate Drummer with Alot of talent and ideas...playing riffs and Drumming writing mad songs..just wow Love ya Charlie, you are a fucking Machine
Monster drummer, great dude. Pop culture fan, horror fan. Legend. Special mention - twin peaks tshirt. Was at Pantera 5 days ago, 22 yrs after the last time, epic. War Nerve my no.1 song, glad we agree!!
Thank you for all the years of your amazing riff and drum skills, you are the man, your work and song writing are the core of the the band. You are one of the greatest musical talents of all.
This is a great experience, and one of those things you see and hear, and know it's kickass...thank you anthrax, Pantera, Charlie and all of drumeo....killer episode
I watched this guy with Pantera at Knotfest here in Colombia a couple of years ago, it was amazing, he sounded just like the records, it was a heavy and so much fun show, the best of that day.
This is by FAR the Best Drumeo UA-cam Video I have seen to date! Good job Charlie there is absolutely no one else they could have chosen to play these drums parts but you, you are perfect for the job! Keep up the good work. Blessings!
Just when I couldn't love a Drumeo video more, Charlie and Drumeo hits it out of the park for me again! CB is a true metal drumming legend and his insight and skill are top notch. He is a master of his craft. Great watch!
Pantera reunion is something that shows metal unity. It's amazing how those musicians cooperate with each other just because they know they're all legends! 😁
Fecking loved that episode. Charlie has been one of the most inspirational drummers to me for as long as I can remember (Early 90s). Great all round advice at the end to just be yourself on the kit. 🤘
Man, he makes it look so easy.. Unfortunately i am one of those people who has as much musicality as a skunk, but i have lived my life appreciating the work of these guys, and still do.. There is a song for every single memorable moment in my life, so thank you guys for that..
Man honestly I've always loved Charlie, but man he's way better than anyone thinks. The man helped create some of the best beats, and genre of music in our times. Man is an absolute legend. Muchbrespect and he kills vinnies parts and does it with mass respect.

Liked anthrax. Loved Pantera. This video helped me appreciate Charlie's work so much more. Thanks for this. You're amazing, Charlie.
Charlie is just such an amazing drummer. I can't even do him justice. A very shy person. If you get Anthrax VIP tickets don't expect to meet him. I also love him so much because he does write music and as a drummer I have as well. Drummers like us are underrated. And of course SOD. Incredible!
Charlie absolutely killed it playing Vinnies parts and his sound. A great tribute to him.
Charlie Benante is probably my favorite drummer.
Listen to his live playing for "NFL" & "Gung Ho" from Anthrax's live in 1987 video Oidivnikufesin
Studied that vhs as a kid, daily! 😆
Charlie has always been one of my favorite Drummers, This was Awesome.
Yo charlie!!!! I grew up as a anthrax fan!!! You all came to the west coast 92 93 ,San Diego!! State of mind,, persistence of time!!!
So now I'm waiting for Chris Kontos from Machine Head. You are the best channel on YT.
If you know Charlie, you love his drumming. If you just discovered Charlie, welcome to loving his drumming.
charlie is such a great, solid and powerful drummer and john bush anthrax is so damn good
Hell yeah!! Anthrax!!!! Charlie's a badass drummer!!
Persistence of Time was my first intro to thrash, I was in the 5th grade and my neighbor let me borrow the cassette. He's never seen it since! Awesome stuff!
When you guys played in Gifford NH September 2023 out of the 86 concerts I’ve been too I never seen such die hard fans best party ever!
Can’t wait to watch this live! I still can’t believe we got both Mike Portnoy and Charlie on Drumeo this year. Saw the Pantera show in Quebec and I was blown away at how good it sounded while being faithful to Vinnie’s sound.
I was there too !!! Videotron center
Very great show !!!!
You must have missed them doing one of these premiers with Brann Dailor. IT WAS EPIC!
@@dracolusus You’re right I did. Recently got into Mastodon and I do want to see that a lot!
You'll enjoy I'm sure! Was a comment from Brandon that it will be released soon, just finalising the edit.@@LeSensuel
Awesome, pound for pound Charlie’s a force to be reckoned with !
Only Charlie could nail Vinnie's parts like that 🤘🤘
It was basically a Celebration Of Life tour.. like HELLYEAH did after Vinnie had passed away! R.I.P. to 2 legends!
He is a thrash originator. Great chops and instantly unique.
Charlie is apparently 61 The guy hasn't aged hes frikin immortal
Been listening to Pantera for 3/4's of my life, and Mr Benante has nailed every fucking chop, and re lighten the love for Anthrax.....All Of the love for these Pioneers schooling all of the Great Pretenders!!!!!!
Thankful for this! He’s been an influence for my entire drumming life and I’m thrilled to see he’s better than ever. His closing comments about there being no “best” is so needed!
GET READY!
Where’s the Brann Dailor video???
Coming soon. It's being mixed and mastered.
@@BrandonToews thanks! The live video was cut short.
I came here to ask that, it was amazing to watch live, thank you for the awesome work! @@BrandonToews (Any chance of getting Daniel Edwin Carey on?)
A true legend, Charlie, that rude series of cymbals sounds incredible, but still with him on Pantera and Antrax it sounds great. 🤟🏻😎
My man, I started drumming playing the whole Spreading the Disease album, and I'm soooo thankful to Charlie and how much he inspired me and still does nowadays.
Please tell me you got him to play a song he's never heard before
THIS.
"for anyone who don't know Charlie" WHO TF DOES NOT KNOW Charlie 😆
My top 5
Charlie and Portnoy are Neil Peart sons !
100%😅
And Danny
And Tim Alexander
Uhh Danny maybe? 🤔
@@toomuchkool-aid7975 yes thank you.
I look at Charlie in a whole different light...He Really really is a great man, hardcore Bronx, Reality... just really a true wizard..wow
He can just rattle off names of songs, parts of certain beats in songs...just incredible, I see why they chose him... he blew me away, I saw him live a few times with Anthrax, and he was awesome.. but he literally is a great accurate Drummer with Alot of talent and ideas...playing riffs and Drumming writing mad songs..just wow
Love ya Charlie, you are a fucking Machine
The fill that goes into the 2nd verse on Schism is just so good- his drumming on State of Euphoria was just miles ahead of his peers when it came out
Monster drummer, great dude.
Diciembre del 2022? Yo los vi en México, aunque acá no fue Knotfest sino otro festival.
This is by FAR the Best Drumeo UA-cam Video I have seen to date! Good job Charlie there is absolutely no one else they could have chosen to play these drums parts but you, you are perfect for the job! Keep up the good work. Blessings!
One of my favorite drummers, Charlie kicks ass!
Thanks Drumeo!
ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!!! Just stunning stuff! Thank you both!
Just when I couldn't love a Drumeo video more, Charlie and Drumeo hits it out of the park for me again! CB is a true metal drumming legend and his insight and skill are top notch. He is a master of his craft. Great watch!
OMG yes. One of my favorite bands and drummers. Grew up with them and it's so great to hear him playing here.
Charlie f'n rocks! And he's got the perfect balance of humility and confidence that makes him the badass he is.
Seen Charlie with Pantera a couple of nites ago in Melbourne Australia, and it was an epic show with Charlie nailing every fkn part.
There's no question Charlie is doing justice to Pantera music.
Well done sir.
Such a good sign when a muso in vids like these asks the interviewer how they are doing straight up. No ego. Seems like a wicked dude.
His contribution to the metal drumming scene is unmatched. I've learned so much from him and he's so humble. THATS HOW YOU DO IT
