Yes, the swastika has been around for thousands of years, and I think it represented the Sun. The strange thing about it is that if it was used as for something good and beautiful most people would like it because it certainly is an interesting-looking symbol, kind of like the symbol for infinity. But human nature dictates, and I don't think any of us who know what Hitler used it for can look at it without feeling some sense of horror.
It represents life, rebirth, renewal, spring and dawn. A new beginning. Hitler turned that around by reversing the image, literally a death cult.
Hitler's version is the same thing that symbolizes the sun, the only difference is that he made his a turning swastika to symbolize the passage of time, the transition to a new era.
