Hey do you think it would be possible to list the tools required to make this armour. Example (Dremel tool, recommended amount of foam, heat gun etc?) Love the armour btw
I’m definitely going to build my self some when I’m older as I 14 so I am still growing EVA foam is a amazing material it can go from a soft foam material into a strong plastic
this is so cool!!! gonna binge watch all the other vids hehe. this is my first time seeing this type of video and as a model maker myself (not cosplay related) i respect the workmanship, it looks really good
Really great videos, I’m building this now. One request for future efforts - if you could please slow down once a piece is finished so we can see what it should look like would be great. As it is, it’s very hard to freeze on the half second clip of the final look for each individual piece. This is meant constructively, not negatively. Love what you do!
Cool! I'm not sure about the size. I would recommend printing at the scale that matches you height. (Scaling chart in the pictures of the listing on Etsy) Then Add material to extend the parts that are too small, just like I showed in the video. :)
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but the heat gun makes the foam fairly solid right? Like it wouldn’t really bend/look like foam after it’s painted, is that correct?
I really wanna built my own armor with your guide but i think that the foam pattern are too big for me to fit in because im 5'4. How can I make sure that the armor fits me properly ??
You can totally scale down the templates to fit you properly. In the pictures of the listing on Etsy, there is a sizing chart that shows at what scale to print the templates for each height. Then watch the printing tutorial video linked in the product description to know how to print the templates at that scale.
That's something I would like to do in the future, but it won't be happening too soon. If you need good stormtrooper armor templates right now, Stormtroop Templates on Etsy sells templates for a stormtrooper armor and he has a tutorial video for making the armor.
Fun fact, just a question, but when you wear the armor, do you have to wear straps and buckles to hold it in place or is it just a snug enough of a fit?
The rotary tool can't be replaced by any tool that isn't more expensive. But you could use the rotary tool to carve in the details instead of using the woodburner.
I'm not sure exactly, but with a 4x1 meter sheet of 8mm foam, a 2x1 meter sheet of 5mm foam and a 1x1 meter sheet of every other thicknesses specified on the templates, you should have more than enough. :)
Excellent video, good job, one question, do you make these suits to order and can you ship them outside your country? For example, how much would it cost to make the dark vader one, I have the helmet and the sound box but I am missing the bib, the boot protector, the wristbands and those things, the accessories including the belt, how much would it cost, greetings and thanks for answering
@@TristanMaker Okay, thanks for answering. I'm not a person who is dedicated to making the type of art you do, even so, thanks, and tell me where the darht vader template is, maybe one day I'll be encouraged by having time for said undertaking, regards
your templates are good i bought them and i made the shoulders and one bicep so far also i’m about halfway done with the helmet too also how do i make the forearm pieces fit to my arm my hands get in the way
@@TristanMaker Yeah, I have about 3 weeks left of summer break. So I’m very determined to work on it every day for hours and hours. I honestly think I could get it done in a week. But first I gotta get craft foam, which can get pricy…
There are no stupid questions! There is already a lot of space inside the chestplate, it doesn't sit directly on my chest. I guess you could make it looser by not cutting the material on the side. You could also modify the templates so the upper chest pieces stick out a bit more. :)
You totally can! It is an ambitious project, but if you give yourself enough time to not rush the build, you should be able to make it. Take your time at every step, and if you are not satisfied with something, redo it. :)
Great video, I'm currently in the process of gathering all the materials together to build this :) I also already have your templates but I wonder, how would I print them when I only have A4 paper available? And do you have an idea how I could add little stripes on the pauldrons like live-action Cody has? I think he's the only clone who has them and I'm not sure if it would be possible to burn or press them in.
Hi, thanks for purchasing from my shop! To print the templates on A4 pages, simply watch the printing tutorial video linked in the product description. All the information is there. You can use a wood burner to carve in the lines, or you could cut out those parts and glue them back in 2mm lower.
How well would this scale for someone who is around 5' or around 152 cm tall? I'm trying to make this for my son but I don't want it to be too large. Thanks!
It should work pretty well! Simply refer to the sizing chart located in the product description on Etsy and watch the printing tutorial video linked in the product description. All the information you need is there.
Hey, so we are half way through cutting out our pieces and are wondering what to do with them when we are finished. In other words, how do we attach all of these parts to someone? Do we velcro the parts to an undergarment? Curious what you use. Thanks again!
3 months late but you could always translate the templates to paper, adjust it for your body, and then that will give you a good guess of how much foam you'll need. I'd recommend getting a little extra just in case though.
Hi Tristan, the template pieces have short solid lines that stick up perpendicular to the main outline. Do I need to make a cut where these lines are marked? Thank you for responding.
Do you sell templates separately? My costume for SWC only requires hands and forearm armour and this seems to be the way to go rather than buying 3D printed ones for £40~ each
Mostly 8mm foam, with some other thicknesses for some parts. All the thicknesses are specified in the product description on Etsy and on the templates directly.
You can print on any size paper and using any printer. Simply watch the printing tutorial video linked in the product description on Etsy. All the information is there.
The templates he uses are pdf files (2d outlines). So you cant use them for 3D printing but you could probably find clone armour stl files (3D files) on the internet. I think Galactic Armoury has some but they aren’t free.
i have a job, 0 craft skill, and a ton of foam. trial and error is screaming to me

quick question: how are you taking the armor on and off? do you have clips to take it on and off or are you slipping it on like you would a shirt?

Do you have any recommendations for alternates to the wood burner and rotary tool?
The rotary tool can't be replaced by any tool that isn't more expensive. But you could use the rotary tool to carve in the details instead of using the woodburner.
How do I know what thickness of foam I need ? Do you have a list of how many of each we would need for 1 suit ?
It says the thickness on the template
what kind of EVA foam do you use? High density or low density?
I like using medium and high density foam. Both work for making this armor.
How do I know how much foam I need?
So how much foam is needed for the whole armor? I need to buy foam online and just want to get enough.

Hi there! I love this tutorial and the templates!! What would you recommend to change on the chest piece to make this fit a woman's chest?
There's a lot of room inside the chesplate so in most cases you won't have to modify it at all.

What millimeter EVA foam is that
Mostly 8mm with some other thicknesses.

Not at all. This armor reduces mobility which makes it dangerous to wear in a sport environnement.

A 1mm difference in thickness is totally fine. I sometimes use 5mm instead of 4mm or even 8mm instead of 6mm.

how thick is the eva foam 10mm or 20mm
It's 8mm for most of the build with some other thicknesses
For the forearms I can’t slide my hand in it. Is there any thing I can do
I would recommend cutting them open along their lenght and glueing in a strip of foam to make them wider.
You could also remake them scaled bigger
Do you have a way to remove the excess glue that doesn’t damage the foam at all
If you mean before painting, you can use barge thinner. But make sure you have safety glasses and gloves when using it, since it's pure toluene.
