    bit of a tip. if you want to make the armor out of cardboard, you can make the panel lines by scoring with a knife and the running throught the line with a flat head screw driver

    Your patterns/builds are definitely up there with those of the best propmakers :) One suggestion about the patterns though. Wouldn't it be easier to have the markings for the inward/outward beveled cuts at the in- or outside respectively? Meaning a straight line for the silhouette of the piece and the dots/dashes showing where the bevel should end. Not sure if that made what i meant any clearer, but it would show better how much to tilt the blade than guessing how much 40 degrees is.
    Just a thought, thanks for the videos anyway. Keep them coming, and once again - Your patterns are great!

      Thank you! I understand your recommendation. The problem is that when cutting out the templates to transfer them on foam, you have to cut on the actual cut line so you'll lose the outward angle markings.
      The good thing with foam is that you don't have to be totally accurate with the angles. You can cut from 35° to 45° without any issues during assembly.

    • @GamingDad63
      @GamingDad63 3 роки тому +1

      @@TristanMaker - You could cut at the outward angle markings and then bevel them to the silhouette line. I guess one could even make the bevels with a rotary tool if that felt easier

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  3 роки тому +2

      That's true. It would be really helpful for using the rotary tool

    And another question. The superglue i use make the foam somewhat hard and brittle. I see you're using Gorilla superglue, that will not have that effect on foam, or?

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  3 роки тому +5

      It does make the foam a little brittle at the seam, but less than the typical superglue that comes in small tubes.

    • @GamingDad63

      @@TristanMaker - It doesn't hurt to get a bottle of it and try, i guess ;)

    • @TristanMaker

      It's been working great for me, but contact cement is always better if you need a strong and flexible seam.

  • @mummabear448

    I was wondering how you got your rectangle piece to the knee pad so smooth I use my dremel and it looked all bumpy and I can see where I joined different size’s together

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  2 роки тому +3

      You can hide the seam from the stacked parts with flexible filler like I show in the painting video.
      As for the dremel, it just takes patience and practice. But you can make the surface smoother by heating it with a heat gun and rubbing it against a metal surface while it cools down.

    Do you have any good tips to make extra details? Me and my group plan on being captain Rex, commander Cody, and commander bly. There’s quite a few details on the armor aside from the armor itself so what would be the best way to tackle those?

    Heya, what size would you print out the templates for a 7yr old 120cm tall? And also for the helmet? Just bought the templates from Etsy can’t wait to start making it.

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Рік тому

      Hi, to know at what scale to print the templates, simply refer to the sizing chart located in the pictures of the listing on Etsy.
      After that, watch the printing tutorial video linked in the description of the listing on Etsy. All the information is there.

    Are you able to sit down for awhile without the armor messing up or creasing and stuff? And if you say use the heat gun to fix it, what if it’s painted, wouldn’t the paint get messed up?

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  2 роки тому +3

      It's hard to sit with this armor, but doable. But I wouldn't recommend sitting for too long as it might add cracks or folds in the armor.
      The heatgun method only works with certain sealing products. Watch Kamui Cosplay's video on priming eva foam to learn more about which product would be best for you.

    • @TristanMaker

      The way I did it was by cutting the front piece. Just follow the curve that the edge has instead of cutting it straight.

      I'm not sure exactly, but with a 4x1 meter sheet of 8mm foam, a 2x1 meter sheet of 5mm foam and a 1x1 meter sheet of every other thicknesses specified on the templates, you should have more than enough.
