The armor looks phenomenal, the whole tutorial was very clear. Not only am I going to buy the body templates when I switch from cardboard to foam, but I’m going to try to make a senate commando armor set. You’ve inspired me, man.
If you think it looks good on video, i can guarante it looks even better in persone! i had the chance of seeing this armor in 2 local cons earlier in the year, and i must say it is just incredible! super travail Tristan, Chapeau!
This armor is amazing. I wish I had the skill to be able to put something like this together. Even with the template I’d fail making it this good. And I love the orange and black color layout! Halloween vibes lol
So helpful! I want to build my own! It's great because if you are new, like me, you show each step clearly, and don't assume that I now stuff, and show each paint that you use.
Hey Tristan, if you want to create good weathered paint chip marks, I recommend applying liquid latex with a toothpick over the black before you paint it orange. Then you can use your finger or something similar to rub it off after it dries. Creates pretty realistic scratches and paint chips.
i don`t know what it is but it just feels more menacing when you showed it with the DC-15A, and also it just looks absolutely amazing it turned out very well
There's things that need explaining in life and one of those things need to be WHY THE HELL HAS YOUR CHANNEL NOT GOT MORE SUBSCRIBERS????? You deserve a load more lad
I agree. Frankly, he has basically convinced me to try my hand at more elaborate end results with EVA. Twelve years ago, I made TC boots with EVA velcro'd onto $14.99 tennis shoes from Walmart. Painted with latex white paint for walls. Looked like vinyl or lower grade leather once completed... Sadly, my computer was stolen 3 years ago and I did not have a great many things with no back up... lost forever. Pics of all my versions of boots lost forever. But, now this young man made putting a full TC suit assembly taking only a couple of days. And it looks amazing. I now believe in what he is espousing.
Amizing! could you make a separat Video, where you show us what you added to the armour to make it an ARC Trooper armour? I would like to use your Video for my own cosplay but i prefer a ARC Tropper armour over a regular CT Armour. :)
They are a great option. I thought about those but they are pretty expensive for the amount you get. In the spirit of this channel, I chose to recommend a cheaper option.
He will eventually... I have just recently become interested in scratch building SW armor made with EVA foam. I am tempted to make a Ralph McQuarrie/Doug Chiang/Jon Favreau inspired Star Wars suit of armor... Perhaps a Phase I TC - Mandolorean - Republic Commando-hybrid suit... In white, of course.
@@TristanMaker yeah I guess, how long it take to you ? Actually, I think also about the furniture, maybe it will be difficult to find in my country. You bought all of the furniture in a Home center or in a kind a DIY shop ? (Sorry for my English, it's not my native language so maybe I use some incorrect word sometimes ^^). By the way thanks for your reply and support.
Would you consider making templates for attachments, like ARC/officer pauldrons, bandoliers, holsters, ammo packs, etc? I love watching your process videos and really want to try and make my own armor set using your templates!!
@@jonahs2908 I am also a beginner to foam ,and i have to say that it is very simple to make compared to cardboard. I completed and painted the top half of my clone trooper armor in just 2 days
I'd say the armor is totally doable for a beginner if you take your time. Helmets are a bit more difficult but by making the armor first, you should gave enough practice to tackle the helmet.
Did you use metal paint as part of your weathering? On the clone armor forums several years ago, the members argued if metal paint was ok. My opinion, and extrapolating a bit... Maybe clone armor could be lamination of impact resistant plastic, plasti-steel, and some sort of metal... So, I used a silver Testor's metal paint pens then a black paint pen for scorch around the silver edges .. then wood stain to simulate oxidation (or aging and/or rusting). I could find detail and very subtle weathering.
I used a chrome paint for the scratches because I like the look. But as far as I know, clone armor is just a type of plastic that comes in white or black for the umbra ARC trooper. If you look at the clones in Battlefront, the armors have scratches that are the same color as the surface, indicating that the material is a white or black plastic. But no cosplay has to be 100% accurate, so just have fun and find a finish you like, just like I did. :)
Amazing work on the armour and paint job dude, it looks amazing! I’m also glad you showed your mistakes with the paint and also went over alternative methods that may be better, top notch stuff! I would suggest maybe check out SKS props on here, his painting is second to none and done mostly by brush! Painting is always the most dreaded part for me, I’ve talked about it in my videos, but I’m trying to get better at it and his videos have helped with that.
Going to be making this armor next summer for an event. Out of curiosity, what is a ball park for price including foam, paint, and tools? It looks amazing and I am super hyped. Thanks.
I’m in the process of cutting out my armor pieces now (with a MGS1 Solid Snake inspired paint job once that’s done, hopefully in time for NYCC), and I was wondering what kind of jumpsuit would you recommend for underneath the armor? Also, what should I do about making the shoe covers, as they aren’t included in the files from Etsy?
For the undersuit I just used black pants and a black turtle neck shirt. The shoe covers are simple trapezoidal parts. You should be able to make those easily without a template.
Hi Tristan Maker, I´m Spanish and I would like to know if the store where you buy EVA foam ships to other countries, like Spain of course, and you have a new subscriber, I love your work! ;)
Thank you for your support! I buy my foam from True North Cosplay. They ship internationally, but you might want to find a local foam supplier to avoid paying too much for shipping. Lumins Workshop is also a foam supplier that ships internationally.
Hey Tristan, I’ve gotten a few of your templates and am working on some armor now. But, I’m wondering how you made the rangefinder for the phase 2 helmet? Where does it come from and how did you get it to swivel?
The armor looks amazing. Im trying to make mine but white, what white spray paint would you recommend to use?? And would you recommend a different colour base seal or does that not matter?
Cool! You can use grey plastidip (3 coats) or watered down modpodge (5 coats) to seal the foam. Then if you want to use spray paint, the rust oleum 2x line works great. You could also use good quality acrylic paint. After that you can seal the paintjob with rust oleum 2x clear in matte or satin.
Hi I am new to this hobby and I love the look of this armor! But i have 2 questions about it: can you sit in it comfortably and not damage the butt and back plate whiel sitting? Dose it get hot in the armory fast?
Awesome! Unfortunately sitting in the armor is really hard, but doable. And depending on how you sit, you might damage the butt piece a little bit. And if you have already worn an armor before, you'll see that this one doesn't get as hot as others because there is a lot of air flow. If you have never worn an armor before, it's gonna take some getting used to how hot it is.
Do you have templates available for the ARC backpack and special gauntlets? I'm keen on building an ACR suit, and would be very interested in any of those materials if you have them available!

Use Plaid FX paints. These are specialty cosplay paints that are made to be flexible for foam. Or use Fabric paints

Alright, thank you. Also, this is my first time making something out of EVA foam, so how difficult was it, like, is it do-able?

Hey Tristan, I’ve gotten a few of your templates and am working on some armor now. But, I’m wondering how you made the rangefinder for the phase 2 helmet? Where does it come from and how did you get it to swivel?

On my armor yes, but you might want to connect them with velcro to make it easier to put on and take off.

Wondering what magnets you had for the arc trooper attachments? Looking for something similar but haven’t had any luck in finding them
They are 1 inch neodynium magnets from Amazon
Can you also put on your store the templates for the accessories for a arc trooper?
How thick is the Eva foam
What are you wearing under the Armor? And how can you stay cooled in the armor?
I'm just wearing a turtle neck long sleeve shirt and workout pants. Wearing such and armor is just hot and you kinda have to live with it hahaha
How did you attach the kama ? Because it's between the belt and the butt plate so the kama have also velcro ?
Yep, just velcro for that part too. But it sits right under the belt which makes it look like it's between the belt and butt plate.
