Thank you guys for watching. If you guys want a signed print for your wall I print all of them myself from my large format Canon printer larrychenprints.com/
Toyotas with 3TC with side draft Weber carbs was a thing you would see everyday in PR in the 80s and 90s. Larry needs to visit Puerto Rico. The guys from 1320 are always blown away by the island's car culture.
As I get older I realize there are so many hidden gems around the world. The locals know, the owners know, but we don’t need to know to make them beautiful and fast so they stay quiet. Thank you to these owners and you Larry for shedding a little light and highlighting these amazing people and incredible builds.
Actually, there are significant differences between the TE21 sedan (Peanut) and the TE27 coupe (Mango) body styles of these 71-74 Corollas. From the firewall forward, they are basically the same; but from the firewall back - totally different. The coupe roofline is about 1.5" lower than the sedan's, the windshield is swept back a bit more. Of course, the rear "windshield" sweep is entirely different with the sedan being more of a "notch" and the coupe looking a bit more like a fastback. So all of the glass and the doors are completely different between the cars because of the roof height difference. And the rear decklid is different. On the sedan the decklid extends down to right above the rear bumper between the tail lights -- the license plate mounts on the vertical portion of the decklid. On the coupe, there is a fixed panel between the tail lights where the license plate mounts - the coupe decklid doesn't have the vertical portion. FWIW Larry, the 2TC/3TC pushrod hemis were and are an iconic powerplant for the early Corollas. Of course there are contemporary engine choices that are easier to make power with and are more refined. But - they're simply not a 2TC or 3TC. By the way, Yamaha worked with Toyota to create a DOHC head that bolted on the 2T and 3T pushrod blocks. Designated the 2TG (and multiple variations from the early 70's through about 84) they weren't imported to the U.S. - so they're pretty rare in the States.
These are the videos I’ve been wanting! Really getting the builders to talk about the technical aspect instead of talking if they have their stock air box.. 😂
The 2TC, 3TC was very popular in SA. Now everyone is 3sge swapping these old Corolla's. This is the engine I grew up with, learning how to work on cars. I still have the motor from my dad's old TE72 Corolla that I'm swapping into a KE70. Thanx for great content Larry and PSI racing.
As a Mopar guy I love how he said " Its actually a Hemi style motor!" Love live the small engines who give the mighty Detroit V8 a run for its money when it comes to making power..
A trip to PR is definitely overdue for Larry. The car culture over there is wild. I remember growing up around Rotores vs Pistones. Salinas Speedway is hallowed ground.
Puerto Rico and Hawaii are identical. The houses, mountains,. So many things. My dad was born there while my grandfather served in the military, then they moved to Puerto Rico.
I really like how this car uses an older engine that's more difficult to make power with. My project car uses a Toyota 1E engine that has been boosted to make over double the stock power (stock was 54hp but still...) One of the reasons i do it is also bragging rights and being able to say I have the most powerfull one of these motors in the country(maybe even the world because the 1.0l variant is not very popular for power) Really enjoyed the video :)
Larry Larry...ny Z still needs a peeper sticker... But I absolutely love, how you always, find the, enthusiasts cars every where you go! Soon I will get a peeper sticker for my Z....it has to have one Larry Chen videos have been watched all thru its 7yr build...it deserves and needs a peeper.
Nice to see these cars, I remember as a small kid. Living up kam4 Hollywood kalihi. Unko Robbi was dads good friend. They were always building these cars. Unko David and aunty Emily had one Datsun. Very nice cars.
Larry come to Puerto Rico, the car game is crazy.... I been watching you for years brother. Even when I played in Cali and you were shooting for the magazines. When you came to Miami, you were shooting right by my job. 🤙🏾🇵🇷
All this footage is making me want to leave Oahu and move to Hilo and buy a drag car. This is the most ridiculous KE I have ever seen. Mahalos bradda Larry!!
I built a 2TG in the early 90s. 3tc crankshaft and 90mm pistons- hks lightweight flywheel- scheider cams- 421 headers Doug Thorley and mikuni 44 phh carbs- 190 hp At the crank
There’s a 71 rolla with a supercharged 3RZ in Hawaii. A good buddy of mine built it on Kaua’i. It’s now somewhere floating around in the islands…Maybe Oahu.
Larry Chen why dont you come to Puerto Rico . We do have amazing cars here , lm sure you will love the cars we have here . If you can come to puerto rico come from June to August
They are perfect for drag racing it's small light simple and well built and they look cool as heck all dragged out I'd like to have one and put either a old 4wd celica drivetrain or gr yaris drivetrain and keep it stock looking except wide tires and hurt some feelings on the boulevard way cool yo
Is the coupe called the "Mango" for the nickname ?????🎉 Plenty ricans blood in the Hawaiian islands from the old farm days I'll never forget the first time a braddah told me he is "flip rican"
Ricans went to HI over 100 years ago to teach the locals how to grow sugar cane and pineapple. That’s why there are so many Coquis on the Hawaiian Islands….Island Love
Iam very surprised not to see a COP setup specifically using a Haltec ECU 3tc engines are notoriously hard to tune becuase of that But i trust Braden how to work it out✌️😎
Jdm boys are uneducated when it come to old school big ups for the psi racing braddah for keeping his cool lol 😂 Puerto Rico builts the fastest old school toyota 4 cylinder's in the world
Larry you really don’t know anything about vintage Toyotas and drag racing do you? My god…the way you were pressing this guy for an explanation on why a Toyota Hemi is a better motor than everything else Toyota ever made besides a JZ motor is mind blowing. Go to Puerto Rico my G!!!!!
Thank you guys for watching. If you guys want a signed print for your wall I print all of them myself from my large format Canon printer larrychenprints.com/

These guys are doing some amazing things over there in Hawaii dang. That’s some crazy old school ingenuity that’s still ahead of its time.
This was my old car, before selling it to these guys. Im glad they have kept it as it was.
🤙Glad to see the 808 State getting some spot light. They have a mean VW scene too (Hint-hint😉).

As a Mopar guy I love how he said " Its actually a Hemi style motor!" Love live the small engines who give the mighty Detroit V8 a run for its money when it comes to making power..
The chambers on the head are perfect round domes. 70hp pushrod with huge potential
Toyota reverse engineered the Red Ram hemi from the 50's building this straight four.
A trip to PR is definitely overdue for Larry. The car culture over there is wild. I remember growing up around Rotores vs Pistones. Salinas Speedway is hallowed ground.

Really great questions Larry. You made sure he touched on everything 👍🏾
More like he wanted to disprove why he invested in this motor. This car eats Larry’s stable of cars…..

I'm surprised I haven't seen a 2rz or 3rz engines popping up in a car yet
There’s a 71 rolla with a supercharged 3RZ in Hawaii. A good buddy of mine built it on Kaua’i. It’s now somewhere floating around in the islands…Maybe Oahu.

Why no dyno videos ?
In PR we call it KANDUNGO
Crazyyy...
When you going to Puerto Rico?
I would love to see this tech apply to a modern engine just for science, no radiator
Candugo!!!
Local florida man builds an insane peanut drag monster
Iam very surprised not to see a COP setup specifically using a Haltec ECU
3tc engines are notoriously hard to tune becuase of that
But i trust Braden how to work it out✌️😎
No,they call those type a car in Puerto Rico Candungo.
Lots of Puerto Ricans in Hawaii, most if them brought in to wirk the sugar cane induatry back in the day.

Let’s bag him about the motor shows you don’t get it one bit
There’s no such thing as automotive style cement.
So what you think they used ?
@@JB-sv5pr hardblock from Moroso is what we used.
Kind of annoying whenever people featured wear sunglasses the whole time.
Puerto Rico popping up again! Guess you're filming there soon! Can't wait!
