You solved a major issue for me. Thanks! Don't listen to the people who say the video is too long. A lot of people like to know why things work the way they do.
The only guy explaining the science behind shortcuts and commands. No wonder people come back to your older videos, like I have today. Can't thank you enough for everything. Keep up the excellent work !!
Dude thank you! I learned something incredibly important today with this video! Additionally, let me say that I absolutely laughed when you just took the break looking at the screen "How's life? How's your family?" haha it was a welcome humoristic touch from someone who usually always appears so focused on what he does, which is also why I always come to your channel for anything PS related! Cheers and have a great day!
U are a saviour. Can't thank u enough. I have just started professional baby photography..n I was struggling with this problem so much.. watched so many videos..msged so many random photographers on Instagram..read things on google but then I remembered u.. n I got my answer🙏
When my sibling uploads the pictures on Instagram on her iPhone, there's no color change, but when I post them on Instagram on Android they turn super grey-ish
Thank you. This helped me out. I created a drawing in procreate, then took it to photoshop to complete the design. every export would change the colors and instagram changed them even more. Once I went back to the procreate drawing and converted the color profile to srgb it worked.
The problem is far more complicated than it. Now, what he says in the video is very useful and improves the situation but it will not solve the problem. 1) You shouldn't be using a profile that matches your screen (even when you post on instagram) because it will look good on your screen but not necessarily on others'. 2) Monitors and screens sadly support customized colour spaces and even the theoretical most standard space, sRGB, will not look the same on any monitor. 3) Be aware that even though proPhoto gives you "more space" for editing, what you see when you edit is not what you'll get in the end when you export in sRGB (assuming you want to use your photos for the web of instagram) so editing may become a very cumbersome task with a lot of guessing and "edit and hope" (remember, you can't rely on a single monitor to see the final effect because every screen will look different) and it may not be worth it. Just accept that your photos will look different on different platforms and try not to think about it.
I've been watching you more often unmesh as I'm starting to evolve into more serious photography. I've been having this problem for yrs & thought there was no answer besides calibrating the screen which in some cases doesn't make sense to me considering all the different devices but without knowing if you covered this I searched for it & sure enough you cover this. Unmesh your the GOAT. B4 I check other channels I start with pix imperfect. When I have money I plan on supporting your new product. I feel your UA-cam provides everything but just to show my appreciation I got you 👌
I typically hate long videos when there is a simple explanation. But this was highly helpful and I watched the whole thing. Starting to focus on instgram and this was life saving! Thanks a lot. great content
Thank you for this helpful video. Have been almost pulling my hair out in frustration with trying to get my instagram images to look at least, similar to the one I see on my screen. Have finally got there.
That's not it.. You must first have profile Pro Photo. Than after you have that higher color range then you select edit and select Convert to Profile. Then under the Destination Space section.. You will see Profile. Select " Working RGB -sRGB IEC61966-2.1"
Thanks for the information. Good to understand the reasons why we should still use the advanced colour profiles for editing purposes even though they cannot be fully utilized in viewing
Bhai love u m bht tym s iss chiz ko face kr r tha ....aj apki video dekhne ke baad smjh ayi y chiz....abhi apply ni kiya mene but i hope apply krne ke baad bhi same results aye.....thnku❤️❤️❤️
Dear magicstar. You solved me this issue. basically, I posted a picture on instagram (android user) and the picture was ok, then after I selected and click ok, it became GREEN. Profile was Photopro RGB. I converted in sRGB and now it works. No issue with ProRGB with Printing and other platform. Thanks man
Thank you sir! I'm a new user of photoshop and been struggling with the same problem that almost lost my interest in editing. I'm happy that i found this video! More subscribers ahead sir 😊
I have changed the settings and done everything exactly as you said in this video, but still the problem stays. After doing the exact things as you have shown, still my images are looking different when i transfered it to my phone. You have been the greatest source from where i started learning about photoshop and still learning,ur contents are just wonderful. I want you to make another video on this topic and try to resolve the issue. Thank you
You have a gift for explaining and teaching complex information in a way that makes the concepts accessible for me. I have not trained in photography but, loved your video. It makes me want to learn more. Thank you.
Very easy to understand and worth knowing the background knowledge to understand better should their be any future changes on social media platforms. Great work!
I cant thank you enough!! I have been struggling with some of my lightroom edited pictures for the last few months and every time I posted them on insatgram they would become dull ...and the worst part was I had deleted teh original pictures too....This video has indeed helped me with the best solution in one shot
Thank you so much for this information! I just ran into this problem for the first time and could not figure out what was going on. This was very informative and helpful!
"hows your family?" LOl. You're such a beautiful spirit... Thanks for everything, i've learned TONS since i follow you. Really, you are my personal hero. THANKS and my eternal gratitude.
This really is the most valuable tutorial! But it may be that it doesn't give the complete answer, I'm not sure. The problem I see is that all of the sudden(!), the photos that show perfectly well in my gallery app on my android phone (so, not only on my PC monitor screen) dramatically deteriorate when uploaded on IG? And they have already been saved as 8-bit sRGB? P.S. I even tried to upload the photos that I have previosuly successfully uploaded, and then I meet the same problem.
Thank you so much, I was so pissed off because the colours of my photos just became unsaturated. Now I now why it was happening and how to solve it. Thank you, love your tutorials, your English is so easy to understand! ❤
Absolutely love that you explain all the stuff instead of just cutting the throat. And that too in a very simple fashion; just like one would explain it to a beginner.
It is instructive to note that, with modern graphics drivers, out-of-gamut colors from a wider color space can be passed through a fixed LUT before being passed to the display. With older systems, as well as many newer low-end systems, this is impossible, so out-of-gamut color values are simply clipped or re-mapped. It's a fair compromise to compressing all the RGB values, which oversaturates the image, rather than truncating the values. Another thin to realize is that color spaces and profiles really are two different things. A profile consists of metadata which is to be interpreted by the targeted output device, while a color space is the actual gamut in which device operates, whether that device is hardware or software. Photoshop, when configured properly, can convert color values on-the-fly to the monitor, while preserving the original values. It "assigns" the profile, behind the scenes, then sends it to the display. Fortunately, later versions of Photoshop are much easier to configure than older versions, especially as far as color preferences go. But it still can be a nightmare to the uninitiated. It is also instructive to note that whenever you ask Photoshop to convert profile, this process is destructive, as it literally changes the pixel values in the image. So, unless you save the image before converting, it is better to assign profile instead. Assigning a profile only changes the metadata (tag) in the image file, which then instructs a device to pass the current pixel values through a LUT before rendering the image. A device can be either hardware or software, BTW.
The default colour space for jpeg exports from Lightroom is sRGB and, furthermore, when I checked the 'working space' in Photoshop - as you suggested in this video - that also has sRGB as the default setting, yet Instagram still wrecked the colour of the few photos that I uploaded. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and have learned lots from them but your solution to the 'Instagram ruins my colours' problem doesn't work, all my photos are saved as sRGB by default and Instagram still ruined them. I thought that maybe this would convince me to create another Instagram account but no...been there, done that, deleted the account and won't be creating another. Instagram is an abomination that should be given a wide berth by anyone who cares about their photographs!
Aha ! Thanks so much , thought I was having an issue with Instagram lately but was me all along using new editing software and saving in Prophoto , very clear and instructional , thanks !
Legend! This was driving me insane! I saved from Photoshop to .jpeg and the image looked spot on when using laptops. It even looked spot on when viewing on my phone via the Dropbox app but the second I exported from Dropbox to save a copy on my phone it changed the colours completely. This looks to have resolved the issue.
I always thought it was some kind of a bug! But today, when I shared a photo via WeChat, it looked terrible even when it looked nice on my phone. And when I sent a prinscreen the colors were right...So I realized the problem must be somewhere else... Thanks!

This is the best explanation for working with color spaces ever. I've always been confused by it but the simple explanation is great
This is literally the best thing I've learnt all year. Why no one told me this in Uni, I will never know
When my sibling uploads the pictures on Instagram on her iPhone, there's no color change, but when I post them on Instagram on Android they turn super grey-ish
Same
exact same with me. didn't have a problem with iphone.
Samee. Does it still do that? Even when you change the colour space?
Wait mine exactly the opposite hmm
That's cause iPhone supports a wider color space than android phone
Thank you. This helped me out. I created a drawing in procreate, then took it to photoshop to complete the design. every export would change the colors and instagram changed them even more. Once I went back to the procreate drawing and converted the color profile to srgb it worked.
