Malaysia Excise duty causes this problem of cars feature getting stripped. Rm100k overseas can get full spec cars already. Malaysian should force government to abolish excise duties already. That is the ultimate route to allow cheaper cars with full specs feature.
That's practically asking to cut a big chunk of income earn from excise duty, unless there are other ways to earn the same as replacement, sadly it won't removed. This will be here for long

I think the touch screen controls is gonna be a deal breaker for some people. Alot of people still prefer having the feel of physical buttons for simple action like climate control and sunroof. I know software controls is cheaper for Proton to manufacture but it's just annoying that you now need to take extra steps for what was just one swift action.
Couldn't agree more. Minimalist interior without climate control physical buttons/knobs really annoying.

From the point front its uncle, but still a very interesting package C segment with B segments price...with turbo and dct...its quite a tempting packages...
Same story when Proton launched Preve 10 years ago. Turbo c segment at segment B price.

No button for sport mode. Only in the screen setting. Haiz... Maybe Hi Proton can turn on Sport mode.. You can not drive halfway then touch the screen to on the sport mode.

Proton 1.5L turbo engine are almost same HP to 1.8L. That Honda 1.5L turbo almost 2.4L HP.

I think proton is over-launching models..there are so much issues with the SUV segment but yet still launching and not perfecting the models...but well, i am not proton strategist, so they have their business strategy
Just use NA 2.0L if you don't care about fuel economy. That engine get worse FE than 1.8L Honda. Turbo only for specific buyers, most people don't need turbo and expensive oil change.
0-100 is pointless for 90% of Malaysian. Important things are price point and reliability. It's a Turbo, so...
my pajero sport has a turbo and 12 years later it's doesn't have problems relating to it's reliability. it's 2023 for god sake

Very surprised with the overall build and quality along with the specs, BUT the deal breaker is the 3 cylinder engine. No thanks, been down that route before and feed back from X50 owners on the engine is not exactly stellar either.
Will the maintenance cost be similar to Civic and Altis?

Engine oil x3 of NA engine. DCT also need fluid change just like CVT with higher fluid price. After 10 years, it worth under RM25K if transmission or turbo fail after 15 years it's totaled. But, you can buy 2 old Proton for 1 Toyota.

After 2 years when the production catch up= cash back + free body kits

At this point, all cars in Malaysia should have prices that reflect a level playing field. Proton has an unfair advantage over it's Japanese counterparts at the B segment price range.
Proton isnt a local car brand anymore when all the cars made are rebadges of Geely's models in China.

They're not outright rebadges. Proton's versions of Geely's models are the first RHD versions of those Geely models. So basically, there will be some minor R&D needed to swap from LHD to RHD while ensuring the conversion is proper and feels like a native RHD car, unlike those Peugeot and Renault conversions.
If you say that Proton isn't a local car brand because all the cars made are rebadges of Geely, then what do you think the first Proton Saga was.. and also its follow-up models like the Wira, Satria and Putra.. 🤦♂

You are comparing a C-segment sedan to 2 B-segment sedans. Obviously there will be no match for the Japanese sedans. Comparison to the Altis and Civic is more accurate.

The steering has hardly any " feel" directly translated as poor road holding. Geely parts have to wait for a very long time.Geely is not the Top Chinese Carmaker,Haval is. Honqi is also more reliable than Geely. Geely cars cause transmission problems if frequently used.Honda and Toyota are much more reliable and ESTABLISHED BRANDS. Proton's Lotus Tuned Handling ( now only the Iriz,and Exora have it)is No More. So no more " That Proton Handling"...Can always tune both City and Vios( without Turbo as CVT) to give much better power and handling by spending some money.

They should just make small sedan or hatchback using persona platform with 1.5L turbo DCT with different styles. Make it under RM55k and top spec 60k. People just want cheap car.
Proton purposely named it as S70 instead of S50 so that consumers will be misled into thinking it is a C-segment. Look at how Geely Emgrand is positioned in Philippines and the picture is clear. Yes, we are getting a engine which has more power, ADAS and better displays. With Honda City getting even lower price (tonnes of discount and 0% d/p atm), it will be challenging to sell this at the expected price point of 100k for a prolonged period. Only time will tell.
That's a seriously retarded comment considering that the S70 will be around the same size as the Altis. It's wider and taller than the Altis, actually. So will you say that Toyota is misleading buyers and that they should move the Vios down to Saga category and move the Altis into the same range as the S70?

I’m honestly not excited for this car much. Reason being , most of the downsides from their other models of the x50 and x90 will carry over here.
Their poor fuel economy is a huge one which Proton is still ignoring till now, along with the quality of the trims/interior/door handle. Their front seats also lack proper thigh support that will make you tired after a while. Basically, if you’ve experienced the X50, you can guess the kind of user experience you will get.
Then, buy perodua instead because Perodua cars are all "perfect" 😊

These are still valid concerns on the car. Their management is still in a downfall and thus their spare parts might not be readily available as we thought.

pls explain / elaborate on quality of trims / interior / door handle. I have a x50 flagship and i can tell u the fit and finishes are good. Its an insult if compare the fit and finishes to the like of perodua. And i have driven the x50 almost 7xxkm up and down kuching-sarikei-kuching (day trip) and no problem with the thigh.
