2024 Proton S70 Review in Malaysia (feat. Civic FE) - The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Expectations

  • The Proton S70 is now one of only four - FOUR! - C-segment sedans currently on sale in Malaysia (and the only non-Japanese model).
    The rest? Well, they've been defeated, everyone of them, mostly by the Honda Civic. In this realm, the new and insanely good Civic FE sedan is basically the final boss, and the new S70 has walked right onto its turf. Can it put up a fight?
    (FYI: We initially booked the Civic 1.5T RS to appear in this video alongside the S70, as that would be a more direct comparison in terms of powertrains. However, nearing the shoot date, Honda Malaysia needed that specific car but said we could have the RS e:HEV instead)

    Certainly not a perfect car, no car is perfect regardless at what price point....but Proton certainly heading to the right direction.

      @@s.a5590 well it depends what is your liking in term of handling..city steering is alot heavier to turn compared to s70…and with shorter wheelbase…what confused me that you saiz city performance is better than s70..if you really own s70 you should know city is not even comparable in term of pickup and top speed of s70👍

    For its price, I am not sure what else owners or potential buyers expect proton to give in the car😅 aside from the AACP AA fiasco, I think there isn’t much to complain about.
    Heck, for the general public, why bother comparing with a Civic that certainly costs more. If you can afford the Civic, go for it. If you want value for money at the sub 100k price range, I think S70 nails it.

    it good direction between geely and proton for sedan segment, since proton famous for its sedan. i really hope this is starting point for good proton. idc that much brand came from a car is a car, a little bit fun feeling, smooth ride, big enough for familly and good cruiser.

    Never thought that S70 has strong pickup power with very little turbo lag/engine noise.
    Suspect Proton give lower power figure on paper than actual 🤔

    I'm 180cm, I sat at the back of both cars, I'm hitting my head in the civic but not in the S70, yes legroom wise civic is better, but surprisingly headroom wise, the S70 is better than the Civic. City headroom is even worse, oh let's not mention the Vios.

    13:12 , Mazda3 is torsion beam , the Civic and the Altis are Multi-Link , I don't know about the S70 , but sitting at the back of the Mazda 3 , u defiantly feel a bit more jiggly and bouncy compared to especially the Altis...drivers might not feel , but rear passengers surely will

    • @madao3709
      @madao3709 21 день тому +2

      The altis is double wishbone. I think the different between torsion beam and multi-link is the comfort for rear passenger just like you said. For driver, it doesn’t makes any different.

    • @enzz3855
      @enzz3855 20 днів тому +5

      S70 is torsion beam but don't expect it to be less comfortable. It is very good when cruising and going over bumps (normal speed of course) but when speeding it's a bit bouncy when going uneven, bumpy roads. Comfort wise for rear passenger is good. I've tested siting at the back while someone else driving it and it feels just like an executive car because of the spacious headroom and legroom. Proton tuned it good enough so that the rear passenger does not feel like riding 'sampan' when cruising high speed around a corner.

      The Carplay/AA question was posed to Proton management at a media event for the S70, in which they said it would come to 'newer' models like the X90 and S70. However, since then they seem to have backtracked (or contradicted) this previous statement. All we can do now is hold up coconuts and hope 😂

      We initially booked the Civic 1.5T RS for this video, but in the end our friends @ Honda needed the car for reasons but said we can use the e:HEV RS instead. We had to roll with it, and it's not a perfect comparison, but it did show off the 'best Civic' vs 'best S70' perspective better in the end.

    • @jswong8200
      @jswong8200 19 днів тому

      Peugeot 408 gets full marks for looks but practicality is a big question mark. Drive a Civic, Altis or S70, and jump into a 408, your immediate reaction would be "Oh wow, the field of view is SO LIMITED!!". The view out of the windshield feels constrained. View of the rear through the rearview mirror is so limited. You can also feel that the view out of the side windows are a bit narrow compared to the spacious C segment cars. Headroom is also noticeably poorer compared to the aforementioned C-segment cars.

    • @carlist_my
      @carlist_my  18 днів тому +3

      Not just Malaysia - hatchbacks are decreasing around the world. Our theory is: automakers found out that they can make more profit by taking their hatchback model, increasing ride height, adding some grey cladding, calling it an SUV/crossover, and charging us more for it 😬
