I noticed that as you mixed the gold ones that the liquitex medium kept true to the color and floetrol changed it. Interesting experiment and good to know i would definitely like to see more experiments.
Great point! The floetrol definitely dulls the color. I just did an experiment between floetrol and Olga Soby’s pouring recipe. The contrast in vibrancy of color is stark! Video will be released Wednesday morning.
I noticed that the instructions for the pouring medium call for their soft body acrylic products and not the basic that you used. I emailed Liquitex to find out what the ratio is for their basic line. Love the experiment.
@@beccaharkinsart you can also use acrylic ink for more transparency. The pouring medium has a bit of resin in it so it reacts differently. It's a learning curve but you can get some cool effects with it. Thanks for the video!
Becca, here's the reply from Liquitex: Dear Denise,
Thank you for contacting Liquitex. Soft Body is a professional range and more concentrated than Basics. For the Basics acrylics we suggest 1 part Basics color to 5 parts Pouring Medium.
I loved your tutorial! Thank you for comparing the two mediums. I have only used American Floetrol in my attempts at painting and agree with you about the softness it brings not to mention the affordability!
I’m with you Becca, the liqutex was a “No Bueno” lol. That’s why we experiment. Thank you , you saved me from buying it for now. I am a floetrol fan myself.❤. #2 was much prettier.
I'm a fairly new liquid acrylic artist and LOVE all videos regarding FAILS or TESTS lmao 🤣 BC I feel like this looks so easy and my first few paintings were amazing, but now, I dont know if I'm thinking too much or what, but they just aren't turning out. I really liked ur video and love your voice! Not to be weird, lol, but it's soothing 😌 ☺️ Anyway, thank u! I just subscribed 😉
@Becca Harkins Art WOW! Sweet! Well honestly, I love your whole personality. We talk a lot the same...like similar sense of humor and ideas and the way you are presenting your channel is exactly what im looking to do. Im 36 and just started painting 2yrs ago but only for the summer, then my baby became mobile and I lost all ability/time to paint! lol So I basically have about 1 total mos worth of practice, but im SO IN LOVE. And I like mixed media pieces too. Maybe one day we can collaborate! 😆
Loved the tutorial Becca, thank you so much! The comparison price-wise in Canada: a gallon of Liquitex PM is $150, a gallon of Floetrol is about $50. Definitely more expensive than in the US, but will be saving money by sticking with Floetrol!
Thanks so much for this comparison between the 2 pouring mediums. I haven't been impressed with using Liquitex Pouring Medium either. I'm sticking with Floetrol!
Liquitex is really more expensive than floetrol and i am pleased to see you have better result with floetrol . I add a little bit water to floetrol to punch the colors towards the centre .
Becca, I love your videos and your results, so keep up the great work! However, I believe most pour artists use just paint and water for Dutch Pours. I would assume the directions on the Liquitex P.M. are for other types of pours, not Dutch. What is the reason you use Floetrol with paint instead of just water? I do it also and feel like results are somewhat better, but have not perfected the Dutch Pour yet and so I’m curious if you ever used used paint and water and why you decided to use Floetrol? Sorry if I have written 2 times as I think I lost my first comment, so did it again. Love your work!
I have tried the Dutch pour with only paint and water. I learned using Floetrol and I’m just more comfortable with it, so that is why I use it. I know what to expect.
@@beccaharkinsart I started researching more after my comment and found lots of artists who use Floetrol with Dutch Pour. I was thinking that just water would be less costly but as one artist on You Tube explained, if you use just water, you need more paint to make the same quantity to get the right consistency. Since Floetrol is cheaper then paint, it actually is more cost effective to use Floetrol plus water rather then just water. Makes sense. Thanks for your response!
Very interesting results, I have just got some of the UK equivalent Floetrol and I am hoping it works as well for me as your American one does for you🤞
I believe the 5-10% of pouring medium is for acrylink ink( I used it before when I started pouring and all the colours mixed together). Now with more high viscosity regular acrylic like Amsterdam I measure it on a scale for a ratio of 1 part paint, 2 parts Liquitex- this is for regular cup pours. It works really well. 😊
Becca loved your experiment. Great stuff but the background music is driving my heart rate way way up. Unless James Bond is going to pop in your room--Make it stop😅

Amazing how those colours blended together so beautifully. The results came out magnificiently.
Thanks so much 😊

Just googled it you can add water to Liquitex pouring medium, the better the brand of paint the more water you can add, loving your videos 👍
Thanks for looking it up! Do you have any idea why it dried and got clumpy when I blew it?
What a fun experiment. Thank you for sharing.

What setting should my blow dryer be on ?
I like to keep mine in low. I have a whole video on blow dryers if you’re interested.

I use these products alot. Problem is getting cells with liquetex but effects are good. J
Which pouring medium gives the least amount of cells? That's the one I'm going with.
Hm, I don’t know!
It has been liquetex for me. Glue is good for cells.

How funny like you I’m very new to this art and I measured just like you….😅😊❤❤❤

Draw back with Floetrol though is that everyone seem to get airway issues with it.
