    This is a perfect demonstration that Steiner schools are absolutely wrong about waiting until the age of 7 before teaching reading and writing. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for your wonderful lessons. I am teaching my son using them. He is 8 years old and has started learning English as a foreign language this year. Unfortunately, our program only dedicated three lessons to reading, and of course, there was no chance to learn how to read in English. I am working with him using your toddler lessons, and I can already see progress!

    This is exactly what's missing for so many people. An hour is lost in the morning to get up and get ready for school, then your child is away from you at school for the next 7 hours of the day, by the time they get home there are only 3-4 hours left before bedtime, which includes 2 of those hours being dedicated to making/eating dinner, cleaning up after dinner, bath time, then BAM it's bedtime. That leaves maybe an hour or so if you're lucky and you're not working later than the child gets home from school.

      I am a two year old teacher and I use that 7 hours to benefit the child so mom and dad don't have to worry about it after work. We do so many different things to learn during those 7 hours.

    Best interview ever! Yes yes … kids are learning at the same time as preforming does not work. Don’t teach using books. You can but it’s hard to resister the urge to just have them read. Use his prepared reading program or just make your own little books for your kid to read! Do not use book labeled level 1 they are not level one. Unless your kid is a super reader not going to work. So much frustration. Make them a book then can even help draw the pictures or print the book and use pictures from online. One work on each page at first and make sure it’s words they can sound out and then create a second series of books that include one or two new rules like “magic e” and “ing”. Also have your kid do fry’s first 100 most common words memorize these will help them read the mini books you create. The dog/ he sat/ no mat/ the cat lost the mat/The end

    I enjoyed this conversation so much! Even though I’m not purchasing the Lovevery kit now, I probably would if I could go back in time when my son was a toddler. However, as an older child learning to read I have to say TCR courses have equipped me to teach and this conversation highlights how important this is, because I also swallowed the lie that my kid would just learn to read naturally, and I believed that the more I read aloud the more easily he would learn. Looking back I can see that I missed the window where learning phonics earlier. Even though I don’t feel like I’m lacking anything with the TCR courses (and I actually really like the simplicity of the white board approach), I’m still so excited for this Lovevery collab - well done!

    It is frequently claimed that teaching children to read during the toddler years is not appropriate for their developmental stage. Nevertheless, I challenge this widely held societal view, based on my experiences as an early childhood educator, where I witness the extraordinary eagerness that children display in their pursuit of knowledge. This circumstance is unfortunate, as many children forfeit valuable opportunities for development, leading to an underutilization of their potential. I concur that this represents a significant issue. Excellent interview!

    I love reading, but I know people who tell me they hate it. A big reason is schools not teaching phonics and one on one. Also making them believe in their childhood, that reading is something like a chore. Instead of letting them choose the reading material at their level, and making the lessons fun, it’s usually something vanilla like round robin. This conversation is so important to change people’s relationship with reading.

  • @xavthomas

    Reading is a language. It is the written language of our spoken language. They're related but not the same.
    For spoken language acquisition, we're told to speak directly to our child and show them what we're talking about. I KNOW this is true because my husband and I do 1-language-1-parent and then we speak the common language of our country (English) to each other. Our child reached 18 months and could speak complete sentences in French and Spanish. And zero English. He went to play groups with me and other kids his age 5 days a week. He was around English in the home. He didn't learn it because he wasn't taught it. He smart. He's good at language. He didn't learn something he wasn't taught.
    Same with reading.

      It's important to find exactly where he is struggling, and then finding the best way you can to help at home: whether that is teaching the skills directly or using materials like those in The Reading Skill Set to help. I have an assessment resource here to help: www.toddlersread.com/blogs/tcr-blog/how-to-assess-your-childs-reading-ability-at-home

    Hi, I'm in my late 30th and have 29 months son and 8 months daughter. I use AI to read because I struggle to read. I do get frustrated even sitting down with a simple article to read. Oh, I also use AI for writing as well. I need your help truly. My son is delayed because of my limitations. After a lot of assessments, those who think can help him are saying he's ok, meaning he's catching up.
    He's no longer singing phonics since he started going to nursery, Instead, I hear him singing the old teachings of ABC.
    I sincerely would appreciate your help with this challenge. How will I teach my kids to read when I'm still struggling...
    congratulations on your award for changing my people's lives and making a huge impact from the start.

    For a 5 year old that knows most letter sounds would you recommend starting with kit 1 or 2?

    • @toddlerscanread
      @toddlerscanread  21 день тому

      Part 1 if focused on sounds, so Part 2 sounds like a good fit. TBH kids still enjoy playing with the games from part 1 though even if their skills are more advanced.

    Do you think the good and the beautiful is sufficient for teaching my 5 yr old to read or should I be using something else?

    • @toddlerscanread
      @toddlerscanread  24 дні тому +2

      I think it's good some strong points and some weaker points but am obviously biased because i sell completely different products that I designed from my own experience working with little ones. So I think I'd say: if you're interest in learning more or supplementing: you can check the links and see if it makes sense for you. But if it seems like they're learning to read and picking it up pretty quickly, then what you're doing now is working and I'd stick with that.
