@CalebJamesWhitaker Set the framerate to the framerate of your footage. For the kind of tracks MGM does, those are point tracks done in AE. You can alsom use mocha for the same type of track.
the great thing about you guys, is that you explain everything pretty simple, i wouldn't know what a Nodal Pan is, if he dind't act it out a bit with his iPhone, thanks guys ;) proud to be a subscriber.
@t0mmylawrence True, but if you're someone trying to learn a program or messing around with it, you're usually not going to get in to any trouble. Some companies have even publicly stated that piracy leads to more users purchasing their program later in their careers.
Hey guys! I would LOVE more tutorials on various effects in After Effects! I'd love to try to do some of the stuff you guys can! Maybe one day, I'll be as good in cinematography and editing as you guys. Thanks again, Ian
Im interested in cinematography yet i dont do any movie stuff yet. However i just love watching these guys caus they really demonstrate the art of film!!
@FRISKIE889 For tracking - 1. A camera, obviously, with settings mentioned in other videos like a high shutter speed. 2. If you can, try to find out your camera's focal length when you shoot the video. It's usually written as tick marks on the lens. Otherwise it could be displayed on the camera's LCD screen. 3. If you can, make a distortion grid. This is basically just a giant checkerboard that you can paint on to foam board. Get the camera to stare at it. It helps Boujou in tracking. GL!
@GodsofFilmProduction Boujou is a Match-Moving Program, while mocha is a tracking program. Boujou will create a 3D enviroment and camera so that the program you export to will know how the camera moves. Mocha will just track the position of an object, so that when you parent something to a null, it will stick (2D Only)
I love your guys' tutorials - they're really well done and extremely helpful. I was also looking into mini camera stabilizers after watching a video which used one...but I'm having troubles finding any product lines that are affordable and ship to Canada. Oh well I might just have to save up for one lol. Can't wait for the next tutorial...well any video from you guys is awesome :).
@OtisandSlayer No, the focal length only changes for zooms. Try it out with a camera, zoom in onto an object and then try just 'dollying' in (moving the camera towards it) there's a big difference between the two. Boujou can (somehow) detect the difference and gives you the correct camera data for this. However, you can't move the camera towards the object and expect a Nodal Pan to work. You have to wait for the Free Move tut for that ;) Hope that was helpful.
@dillerninjaen Boujou tracks lots of different points within your shot, calculates how they move with each other and creates 3d camera data or null objects for your 3d project or comp. Mocha tracks an 'area' within your shot, like a sign or a bit of a road and gives you position, rotation and scale. data which you can C&P into a null object. Basically, Boujou= 3D tracking and Mocha = 2D.
this is incredible. I've been living in fear of Boujou for a while now (been using Foundry's CameraTracker instead), but you just made this insanely easy. can't wait to see the workflow with 3DS Max! (cinema 4D too please?)
Haha I made my frozen warfare video using VOODOO....but before this tutorial...It took me like a week straight to figure out how to do this lol! GREAT TUTORIAL JBH-FILMS
Awesome dude, thanks a lot for this, really help me out to start from the scratch with Boujou ! nice that guys like you take the time to do things like that !
ive seen a few decent tutorials on boujou to 3ds max already, it would be pretty sweet if i finally saw voodoo to 3ds max which no one has done, but still good tutorial i didnt know you could do that exellent :)
5:00 if it's not perfect it's not because you didn't follow the tutorial. I've used lots of trackers professionally for over 4 years and it's literally NEVER been that easy. Although, we typically bring cameras into Maya for set reconstruction or cg elements. Maybe AE is easier. Like he said, read the manual if stuff goes wrong. These guys are amazing but they kinda glossed over a complex process. If you track all your pans like this and nothing ever goes wrong ever, you are blessed by VFX gods.
One crucial point that you missed at the end which had me lost. When you adjust the Z position of the object that you want set in the scene, you should mimic the position values of the null objects. I knew I had a good track because I could see the null objects sticking to the scene, but when I followed the instructions to add my test solid into the scene, it was way off. It's because I was sending it too far down the Z axis - you need to combine z axis with scale to get it looking right.
@creativevission0com Actually it's in one of his newer tutorials called "3D Set Extensions". He uses the plugin CameraTracker. CameraTracker is exponentially cheaper than Boujou, but Boujou has many more options and effects, whereas CameraTracker just tracks the video. (CameraTracker is $250.00, whereas Boujou is $10,000)
@Margalus89 What they're saying is an exception. "If you're on a mac you can use .mov files just fine" most programmes don't support videos for stuff like this, use an image sequence if you're not.
@LiamMichealYoung its probably because (like he said in the tutorial) the 3d solid get positioned at the same position as the camera, so you have to move the solid back in z space...
@MehlsackCoD4 You get shitloads of red lines sometimes because your null objects which are little red dots here are really big and you end up seeing the top right corners of them all over the screen. This happens when the scene geometry is really big. The scene's size is quite random in my experience, so generally after your first export, you would want to check the size on after effects. If you see red lines, the scale is too small and you need to bump it up quite a bit.
@Guitarpro2play okey :) here are 2 tips if you hit "paste" when editing your tracking data make shure your timeline thing is on 0 sec ( at the very beginn of your comp ) make shure your frame rate from your trackinf data is the same as your footage frame rate
@DieEneSjoerd , @HalvardBK Cinema 4D is available on Mac. Why everyone thinks it's only for text I don't know. I use 3DS Max mainly but also use Cinema 4D, Blender, and Maya. They are all powerful and they can all do amazing VFX. They all do some things better. Cinema 4D is very powerful if you learn it and don't just read forums about it.
Can you make a tutorial how to render the object and the shadows separately in 3Ds max, like you did in "Angry Barrels"? And maybe show how to fit your 3d object to the scene as perfectly as possible. It could be really helpful !! But all in all, I love your work and i'm really looking forward to Prism!
@samandniko I've been looking for a good tutorial that covers these steps well for a while, and haven't found too much. Thanks a ton, this one is great! :D
This is a great tutorial! I've never known of Boujou until seeing this, but am I missing something.. this program looks to cost $2,000 to just rent for a month?
Andrew Kramer did a tutorial on something like this, but instead of using Boujou, he used some plug-in for After Effects and it does almost exactly the same thing you did here.
@0zedess0 the better your tracking data the faster the solve will be. if you're using for example a fisheye lens you also need to correct the distortion before tracking. and of course the faster your computer the faster the track (obvious)
@orika001 You can't export 3D in to after effects, you must render from 3dsmax first. I recommend using Nuke instead of After Effects if you do a lot of 3d compositing.
@FRISKIE889 Well, for free3d tracking, you could try voodoo, however, I don't think it exports to After Effects, but it exports to Blender, 3d Max, and more. Blender is free, 3D Max is expensive. If you google 3d Max and Blender, you could download them both for free. For 2D tracking, and I guess it it would work for a 3d track illusion, would be After Effects, but I recommend Mocha, which is an advanced tracking program that is included with Adobe After Effects CS5 and I think CS4 also.
@FRISKIE889 You use tracking to put fake objects in your scene. For example, you can motion track a T-shirt to put a logo on top of it. In this case though, there is a '3D tracking' process. This basically means that a program does a lot of tracking and then figures out how the real camera moved in 3D space. That then allows you to put things on the floor etc, like the 3D barrels or slingshot in this video. I hope this helps you further a bit ;) Read wikipedia 'Match moving' for more info!
@FRISKIE889 when he put the barrel in the scene without tracking the barrel would stand still but the camera is moving so it looks unrealistic hope that was your question
@FRISKIE889 Matchmoving, ie making objects put into a scene with video editing software look like they really are there. For example, bulletholes in a wall
Are you really sure the framerates are the same? If you are importing image sequences, make sure to right click on your image sequence in AE (in the project file list), click Main - Set interpolation (or something like that) and make sure the framerate is correct.
@MehlsackCoD4 because you probably forgot to change the scale before you exported it so all the null objects created by boujou are overlapping in a very small space.
For your next tutorial, could you guys maybe show how to do this with a 3D Program to add vehicles and such? I know that this method could be used for something like the parked planes in Frozen Crossing 1, but what about a shot more like the helicopters in Frozen Crossing 2? Thanks, and great job on the tut!!
I can't believe that this was 8 years ago. Young Sam got me feelin some kinda way.
Same 😅
@chip11111 Silenced guns are mostly smoke. A touch of sparks, and a very wispy, light flame on the end of the silencer can also look good.
@CalebJamesWhitaker Set the framerate to the framerate of your footage. For the kind of tracks MGM does, those are point tracks done in AE. You can alsom use mocha for the same type of track.
Yo,
I cannot tell you all the BS I went through to get this to work.
Finally, after your tutorial it works like a charm.
Thanks man!
@flotch93 Render the animation with a still camera in Blender, then just drop in into after effects with tracking applied!
this was dope! thanks guys! :)
the mighty mike
10 people just don't appreciate when someone has taken a lot of valuable time to give away free advice.
Thanks a lot, love you guys ;)
Corridor!! I love these tutorials. Could you please do a fumefx one! There's not many high quality explosion tutorials out there! Thanks!
@t0mmylawrence There are a bunch! I've put lots of alternatives in an annotation at the beginning of the video.
the great thing about you guys, is that you explain everything pretty simple, i wouldn't know what a Nodal Pan is, if he dind't act it out a bit with his iPhone, thanks guys ;)
proud to be a subscriber.
You have no idea how helpful this was, thanks bruh
@t0mmylawrence True, but if you're someone trying to learn a program or messing around with it, you're usually not going to get in to any trouble. Some companies have even publicly stated that piracy leads to more users purchasing their program later in their careers.
That ending music is pretty great.
@tvproprojects The .ma file has a camera in it!
@thelilboii Maybe, see if it exports after effects keyframe data. Just copy it and paste it on a camera you create?
@SmurfedYah It's totally screwed up, took us a while to figure it out, too!
Oh.
Can I Edit videos on Blender?
@sayrith BJ and Voodoo are 3d+2D, mocha is 2D
Just gotte express how thankfull I and probably every1 else who is learning AE is over the gr8 work you do. Awesome!
@alabalacr2 The helpful keystroke display that my screen capture program does! Doesn't always work so great. But shows you some great hot keys!
this is what makes your channel the best channel out there!!!!
@xAxiom It's over, we're organizing the entires right now! We got a ton of em, managing 4 hours in 30 second clips is pretty hard.
Hey guys! I would LOVE more tutorials on various effects in After Effects! I'd love to try to do some of the stuff you guys can! Maybe one day, I'll be as good in cinematography and editing as you guys. Thanks again, Ian
@SuperAzproductions The magic of video editing!
Yo
Thank you guys! I always appreciate the simplicity of the effects you do. Clean and efficient.
@JakeBlakeProductions Yes we can.! Probably a few weeks from now. Gonna cover some other things first.
@letsfresh You probably have a shot that's really hard to track, or has really inaccurate feature tracks.
@mindblend1 for after effects it's not needed, for 3d programs it's best to do that
Thanks Corridor, a lot of people would appreciated this very much.
Awesome guys! Thanks so much for this! You need to teach all the after effects guys here on youtube, 3d - its what everyones really been waiing for!
Im interested in cinematography yet i dont do any movie stuff yet.
However i just love watching these guys caus they really demonstrate the art of film!!
@NightHawk8291 When I was a child I found a tome in this dungeon... it had all the secrets... it's a great tome!
I even logged in just to say: Great Tut! very useful and crystal clear!
very generous of u
@SuperWario094 My fav: quicktime .mov H264 8000kbps bit rate!

Thanks guys, I really needed a good tutorial like this one as I JUST got Boujou.
@RManEagleEye You'll have to mask/rotoscope him, then!
@Ethanol5 5!

You guys are awesome! I've never had a clue how to use Boujou
i dont know much about what your talking about but i love watching you tutorial
boujou always messed me around with frame rates, the crafty bugger, this helped alot, thanks :)
hey guys, thnaks for making this tutorial, i've been waiting this for ages! i still have hope of a 3ds max tutorial, :D thanks you're awesome
These are exactly the tutorials I've always wanted to watch. :) Keep it up.
@llREBll That's how Niko rolls...
@fieldphoenix9 Thanks!
@Hellkiller65 BOTH!!!!!!
@Slydotcom nope, got a pc for that

Sweet! I actually needed that for my current movie,i have boujou, and really wanted to use it but felt intimidated (not now) thank you
i love that you guys say "consider subscribing"
soo classy

THanks guys really worked out !
okay that was a very well delivered tutorial...I'm impressed. Have him do more!
Awesome dude, thanks a lot for this, really help me out to start from the scratch with Boujou ! nice that guys like you take the time to do things like that !
AWESOME tutorial, thanks guys. I hope to be using this tutorial for my own projects in the near future.

@binandender If you meant does it works with 3dsmax, the answer is yes it does.
@shwammyboy it's automatic, you don't have to care about zooming, or if the tracking point dissapears in some frames. Automatic and faster.
One crucial point that you missed at the end which had me lost. When you adjust the Z position of the object that you want set in the scene, you should mimic the position values of the null objects.

Wicked job, guys. Looking forward to more vids.
Great tutorial
really really great tutorial, guys! that´s just what I needed!!! :-) you made my day!
@SirRecords i figured it out. for me all i had to do is import an image sequence not an AVI. i havnt tried MOV's yet but i will do that soon
Oh my god! I thought this program was only for windows! Lol I'm so getting this! I need to motion track my footage a lot!
@0zedess0

@FRISKIE889 Matchmoving, ie making objects put into a scene with video editing software look like they really are there. For example, bulletholes in a wall
Phenomenal! Now if only I could make Autodesk Match Mover work just as well.
