i figured out, the jpeg sequence, put it into the texture, put the last picture on there in the jpeg sequence, click on the thumbail picture when it loads, go to annimation, and click calculate
Hey mate can you please make a tutorial on how to export to After Effects? I import the .aec file but my footage and animation doesnt appear in After effects the composition as a whole doesnt show. Its just layers of it
yeah, you load the first image in the sequence, then it should say "illustration" as one of the tabs at the top. Click on it, then hit calculate. it should move with the text. Hope this helped.
If you get a black texture it has to do with cinema 4d not being able to interpret your video file type. You could use oxelon converter (for example) to change your video clip to a mjpeg file which sould always work fine in c4d.
@DusKOrigin It's all to do with how you have done the world axis co-ordinates. You have to make sure you are selecting appropriate track marks and you are setting them correctly in the Co-Ordinates box.
I found a fix for R15-R17 for the background not moving after calculating frames, you have to go to the "editor" tab in the material editor and enable "animate preview" Hopefully this solves your problems!
Hi.. I like this tutorial..but can you also show how to motion track 3d text into real life footage for autodesk maya software in which also want to show shadow of the text? thanx for this tutorial.
I followed the steps exactly as a matter of fact ive tried this almost 20 times and when i import into cinema 4d the floor is never where its supposed to be! When the lady bug is added in boujou its on the floor but when i add it to cinema 4d and add text its never in the right spot I NEED HELP!
@shadowCyou Ok in c4d there are three buttons at the top of you screen with the directors "cut" "action" thing . The one on the right is RENDER SETTINGS the one on the left is RENDER WHATEVER IS ON YOUR SCREEN and the on in the middle is the one were YOU FULLY RENDER YOUR WHOLE CLIP.
If Im doing this for an intro on my montage and I want to put some cc on it. Should I do the cc when Im in after effects the first time or should I put it into after effects again when its done in C4D and then do the cc? And thanks for the tutorial, really helpful!
Thanks for a brilliant tutorial. I have a hell of a load of problems with frame rates and getting everything to 25fps. Leaving Boujou it's all fine but once it's imported into C4D everything goes out. of sync. I know it's something to do with the frame rate but you'd think if you use the exact same bit of footage for Boujou you could use the same for C4D. Very frustrating all this multiple rendering!
@CaesarDesigns are you able to make a video of you making a motion tracking intro from scratch to finish?...just so i can have a look to see where you might be going wrong
I'm new to all this and have made a start with After Effects. Been following all of your tutorials with some success! Love your work. Is getting 3D text into live video possible in After Effects? Not so much motion tracking just in a single scene with no camera movement.
@RotanGaming I think I figured out our problem. For me, when in boujou the ladybird was fine so it led me to think it was a C4d issue. So.... In C4D when you import the background footage and your in the "material editor" above the picture of the footage a tab will say the name of the file. double click the tab. Go to the animation tab on the top. If the "timing" tab says exact second, change it to exact frame. This fixed my problem let me know if it fixes yours.
Hello AcrezHD! Thanks for this great tutorial, put you as favorite. I have a sequence shot in DV 720x576 16:9 Anamorphic. When Importing this material into Boujou it's squeezed like it should be when showing in a 4:3 window without letterbox. Do you know if there is any options to make it look right?
idk I had that same problem, maybe try putting the x,y,z, and origin close together in boujou so that in c4d you can put the text at the center of the plane
great tutorial! i just have a question: when i try to make the floor transparent with: Cinema 4D Tag - Compositing, i have like no options to change something?
if ur talking about in after effects u need to edit the length of the comp to match the clip so that there is no empty space, then u can render it... Thumbs if i helped?
When you saved in Boujou did you change the format to Cinema 4d? And in C4D you're supposed to bring in the raw clip BEFORE you rendered it as a JPEG sequence in AAE. If not then it could be the way you put it in Boujou.
load the first picture as the material and click on the longest bar that says the name. Click animate and change the last frame to the number of the last picture, they hit apply or calculate or whatever it is
So when you are making the video material in C4D and you get black material try to select your JPG sequences first picture and then press that long button right side of the button where you press "load image" and press something i can't remember correctly :D i can answer it tomorrow to here but now im with cellphone (may work without it)
Hi AcrezHD I Have watched a1000 tutorials on tracking but none explain the following. What if your camera is moving like on a car driving on a road, how would you do the ordinates of your axis? example: race car driving around a racetrack.
Very nice and helpful tut! Thanks! Question: how solve you the problem, if the CGI Shadow hits an Object in the real movie? The shadow will not be broken in the right way. Is there an other way than re-build this object in c4d?
I did alot of extra stuff with random effector and keyframing the position and stuff with mine. Im renderring it now but I'll post it as a vid response when its done :D Thanks a ton. This just elevated my editing skills to a whole new level
@toxictechnonick if its for the RAM just go to the right where you click the review and it should have ram preview frame rate, just change that to the frame rate of the clip. For the whole project go to composition settings and change tee rate in that
in 'render settings' go to 'output' and then find 'frame range' then change it from 'current frame' to 'all frames' (and put the 'from' to 0 and the 'to' to how ever many frames you have)
@Eddiefry There's a plugin for After Effect which now is essentially as good as Boujou called the Camera Foundry Tracker. After Effects should come with Boujou by the way.
I did it a different way when your in boujou and you save the file after you done all the stuff you had to do to track it. also save file to avi as well and then when you have to load the background in C4d load that file and it work that way as well. thank for getting back to me anyways glad you got your sorted
Hi I've followed your tut pretty well after I render my final clip the text I put in slides along with the camera instead of staying stationery. Does any1 know where I went wrong?
@TheRoZeSwap On some systems (I don't know why) the video only displays when it is rendered and not in the editor view. If you want to preview it however, there is a 'reload image' button somewhere in the texture tag. Hope this helps :)
I do the exact same thing as in the video, with the exact same clip, but it messes it up EVERY time! I get the floor to me vertical instead of being horizontal
I'm sorry I have no ideo what an IRL video is!! :-) As a for instance, say I had an opening shot of a beach, is it possible to have 3D text appearing as if it's sitting on the sand casting shadows etc? I only own After Effects and my knowledge of motion tracking is non existent!! Thanks.
It looks excellent in BouJou (with the test object), once I've got it in C4D, added text and rendered it, my text just moves around a little; not even close to as it was in BouJou :( What am I doing wrong?
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial AcerzHD, I look forward to following your other tutorials. Informative and to the point without needless tittle tattle. Took me a couple of attempts to crack it as I didnt know you had to Ctrl+Click on 2 points in the Z and X axis to obtain 2 points to connect in the geometry section of the tutorial..
Hmm whenever I put in the background movie file it appears all black in the small material window and doesn't show up at all as background. :/ Do I need to use a special movie file type?
But what if we are two guys holding our hands out and I want it to look like we are holding the text, should I put the floor on the ground or in our hands?
Thank you for the tutorial (I can not very well English use google translate) the program Boujou everything is fine. But once I put it in CINEMA 4D objects so objects shaking and moving. please help.
My main problem is how do i do the whole map bit i wanna do arkedeen on MW3 but no idea how to start it all do i need to go in theatre mode and record a video clip or take a image
It works and looks fine in BouJou with the test objects, but as soon as I open the file in Cinema 4D the predictions disappear and the camera just sits at an angle. Please tell me I'm just doing something stupid wrong...
When I put a video file into cinema 4d on the preview it cuts off the edge of the video but when i render image it shows the full screen. Is there a way i can get the full screen on the preview when editing?
Does someone know, which program @AcrezHD is using to record the screen? There are endless capture programs, but none looks that good and also includes the pressed-button screen.
@AcrezHD Can i ask you something? If you record a gameplay how do you change the view Just like if you recording a Counter-Strike Source match i only see my gun but i want to make a intro like this clip
@ImTeezo did you figure it out? because im having the same problem, its just black.. when i import a still image from the sequence it works, but any .mov file does not, what are we doing wrong?
You have to edit the exported camera file, the parameters are off by default. someone made a mistake when they ported c4d to be compatible boujou 5. Do This; right-click on the exported file from boujou and edit it with notepad ,Then Do a search for "Key -3.141593" Change it to "Key 0.00000" Change the value directly above that from "Key -0.00000" to "Key 0.000000" Now do a document wide find and replace: Find - "ParentItem 10000001" Replace with - "ParentItem 10000002"
dude i've learned a lot from you, but how can i set that things are infront of the text, i mean for example im filming my street and i want a 3d text on the pavement but theres a pole in front of it :O how can i do dat ?
When making new material and then load image dubble click on image (left from Smapling and blur offset and scale. Go to top animation and change Timing to range and up end range that it is from doots file (acrez's is 433)
How do you move the text up onto say a wall rather than on the floor?.. Also how do you let objects walk in front of it without the text always being in front?
I was wondering if Quicktime is really needed or has an advantage over other formats such as WMV. I notice when I load up after effects I get the message saying quick time in not installed and some componentes may not work, but have not come across any issues yet. If there is some kind of advantage to using quicktime i will be glad to use it, Any Ideas?
@Feoze you need to use a totally flat surface, if your using the one acrez uses, then you need to select better point to show where the floor is :) hope this helped :)
Help Please! When I use a test object, it is angled and not flat with the floor, before and after doing scene geometry. The floor is also angled when I import the background into cinema 4d as a result. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!
whenever i try to 'import sequence' in boujou it says 'Error (300) The movie file(s) was not found.' Any idea? I am trying to track a 3d model running into a moving cinematics.
@DerCyberPro when i upload the C4d File after i done it in boujou all i get is a random plane with no dots and when i try to import the video clip i get a black material....any help???
hey, i need help, i did all the traking, and when i test it with the test object in boujou it looks awesome, just perfect, but when y export it and build the scene in 3ds Max, the object i use doesnt look great with the video... like, it flickers, it doesnt look like with the test object (the object kinda flies in the table im suposed to put it).... any idea why the test object looks good and then it doest in 3ds max?
The only problem I am getting is when I import the original video for the background, when I apply it to the background its no longer in 1280x720. Any Ideas?
@KoT3Ds thats the conclusion i came too also however i used the exact same 'scene geometry' points as acrez and when i added the test object of the ladybug everything seemed fine :( thanks for the reply i'll continue to try and get it working
@zPureDzn how do you "load the first image of the video" instead of the whole video"? does it have to be in the jpeg frames thing? also what little image? sorry i have never motion tracked before
Hey Boss. I have followed your tutorials verbatim and something still isn't right. I have Boujou & C4d. I do the boujou tracking exactly the way you described (and every other tut). I have tried, .mov, .jpeg & .tif files. I match the frame rate from video software to Boujou to C4d. in boujou the ladybird appears fine. I export x 100 import x10. When i finally get the background going and the text. The text shakes!!!!! What am i doing wrong???
Hey Acrez, I'm using real life footage of my driveway (just to test motion tracking out.) Everytime I camera solve it, no camera solve points appear! Can you tell me how to fix this?
hi thanks for showing this tutorial, please tell me where I can buy Boujou for less than 1000 $. do you know a smaller version that will do and that will cost around400.- ? thanks fo a hint
When i open my original clip the material got black :O
yes im having this same problem... prntscr.com/2o2aoo Anyone know how to fix?
I hope someone knows :( Cuse i really need this for my montages! Need to improve them :O
i figured out, the jpeg sequence, put it into the texture, put the last picture on there in the jpeg sequence, click on the thumbail picture when it loads, go to annimation, and click calculate
Going to try it tomorrow But Thanks!
Kronic - Leader Of FuZe
Nice man it worked for me using this method, Thanks!!
Hey mate can you please make a tutorial on how to export to After Effects? I import the .aec file but my footage and animation doesnt appear in After effects the composition as a whole doesnt show. Its just layers of it
I have optimize radial distortion parameters too where it says optimize camera path smoothness. Should i nick that too?
How come my test object in boujou is nice and still but once i get it to cinema put text object there its moving so much
my camera path smoothness is taking for ever....why is that?
uh guys how do i export it?
yeah, you load the first image in the sequence, then it should say "illustration" as one of the tabs at the top. Click on it, then hit calculate. it should move with the text. Hope this helped.
this is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen, for anything. hahah nice work man.

@HDR1Se you have to hold CTRL down and click those points so you can choose multiple points.
@shadowCyou

I've been looking for a way to do this for so long! Thanks for the great and clear tutorial Acrez! Subbed
Really brilliant video - just what I've been looking for. Which version of Boujou do you use?
ACERZ you sir are a god among VFX'ers and GFX'ers
Hi AcrezHD
I Have watched a1000 tutorials on tracking but none explain the following.

in 'render settings' go to 'output' and then find 'frame range' then change it from 'current frame' to 'all frames' (and put the 'from' to 0 and the 'to' to how ever many frames you have)
thanks that worked now my words are shaky and i have the same frame rate on all three programs how do i fix that
And for scene geometry, what if I want to track the walls? Like I want to stick text into a wall instead of the floor?
What is the reason for converting the movie to an image sequence first? Boujou allows you to just import the movie.
Is there a way to have two different levels of text at once. say like one on top of the stairs and one at the bottom?
@Eddiefry There's a plugin for After Effect which now is essentially as good as Boujou called the Camera Foundry Tracker. After Effects should come with Boujou by the way.
I did it a different way when your in boujou and you save the file after you done all the stuff you had to do to track it. also save file to avi as well and then when you have to load the background in C4d load that file and it work that way as well. thank for getting back to me anyways glad you got your sorted
@WetBuck3t you would have to mask out the character so it's sitting on top of the text
Hi I've followed your tut pretty well after I render my final clip the text I put in slides along with the camera instead of staying stationery.
Does any1 know where I went wrong?
@xeonhl2 So, there is no reason to convert to an image sequence? Acrez saved his sequence as jpegs anyway so there's more compression there.
@TheRoZeSwap On some systems (I don't know why) the video only displays when it is rendered and not in the editor view. If you want to preview it however, there is a 'reload image' button somewhere in the texture tag. Hope this helps :)
I assume you would use the Y and X axis' instead of Z and X. Just a guess though, actually.
First of all, great tut! secondly, is there any other way to make a JPEG sequence from a.mov without After Effects?
I do the exact same thing as in the video, with the exact same clip, but it messes it up EVERY time! I get the floor to me vertical instead of being horizontal
i figured it out - c4d only supports AVI format, you have to change the filetype (w/ a converter or just re-render it) to AVI from whateverit was.
Hey, when im done with th camera solve, many dots from almost all the video were deleted and instead it tracks parts f the video that comes at the end
I'm sorry I have no ideo what an IRL video is!! :-)
As a for instance, say I had an opening shot of a beach, is it possible to have 3D text appearing as if it's sitting on the sand casting shadows etc? I only own After Effects and my knowledge of motion tracking is non existent!!
Thanks.
It looks excellent in BouJou (with the test object), once I've got it in C4D, added text and rendered it, my text just moves around a little; not even close to as it was in BouJou :(
What am I doing wrong?
When i save in a folder and try to pull up in boujou it just shows a blank folder
What if the text goes behind a wall and you want to.crop the wall to make it look like its behind? what do you use?
@bradybraidz what kind of text editor?? and what do u mean by search?? (like wtf do u click) now how do i search the parenitem ???
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial AcerzHD, I look forward to following your other tutorials. Informative and to the point without needless tittle tattle. Took me a couple of attempts to crack it as I didnt know you had to Ctrl+Click on 2 points in the Z and X axis to obtain 2 points to connect in the geometry section of the tutorial..

the program Boujou everything is fine. But once I put it in CINEMA 4D objects so objects shaking and moving. please help.
My main problem is how do i do the whole map bit i wanna do arkedeen on MW3 but no idea how to start it all do i need to go in theatre mode and record a video clip or take a image

@katerboy7 i have somehow a similar problem when i export it to cinema 4d , eveerything is in one folder, and the background doesnt moves..
every time i do it like u do my text won stuck to the place it needs to be.
so the background moves but the text doesnt. help me
@AcrezHD
Can i ask you something?
If you record a gameplay how do you change the view
Just like if you recording a Counter-Strike Source match i only see my gun but i want to make a intro like this clip
@xSchmoopy you have to make sure when you open the program that is the only one you have open
every time I export to cinema 4d the ground plane/camera appears to be wiggling and not stuck in on place. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
@ImTeezo did you figure it out? because im having the same problem, its just black.. when i import a still image from the sequence it works, but any .mov file does not, what are we doing wrong?
You have to edit the exported camera file, the parameters are off by default. someone made a mistake when they ported c4d to be compatible boujou 5.
Do This; right-click on the exported file from boujou and edit it with notepad ,Then Do a search for "Key -3.141593"
Change it to "Key 0.00000"
Change the value directly above that from "Key -0.00000" to "Key 0.000000"
Now do a document wide find and replace:
Find - "ParentItem 10000001"
Replace with - "ParentItem 10000002"
WOO! If you were having the problem where the clip wouldn't transfer to a material. Go into after effects, render the clip out to an AVI!
dude i've learned a lot from you, but how can i set that things are infront of the text, i mean for example im filming my street and i want a 3d text on the pavement but theres a pole in front of it :O how can i do dat ?
When making new material and then load image dubble click on image (left from Smapling and blur offset and scale. Go to top animation and change Timing to range and up end range that it is from doots file (acrez's is 433)
How do you move the text up onto say a wall rather than on the floor?.. Also how do you let objects walk in front of it without the text always being in front?
you have to mask it out in lets say after effects to walk in front of the text
where did you learn to do this did you go to college or did you learn on your own? please tell I really need to know thnx
Having trouble, please upload a tutorial on how to fix the problem!
Besides picking only 2 dots, cant i just pic all the z axis and x axis of where i want the 3d text to sit?
I was wondering if Quicktime is really needed or has an advantage over other formats such as WMV. I notice when I load up after effects I get the message saying quick time in not installed and some componentes may not work, but have not come across any issues yet. If there is some kind of advantage to using quicktime i will be glad to use it, Any Ideas?
Also, when i put the mo text in, it's backwards, and when i try to move it, it changes as soon as i scrub through...
I love this guy. Tutorials are perfect. Thanks for helping me with my montages bro!
How would i render in C4D?? What would the best settings to render it as a "movie"??
Sorry for bad english, German xD
@katerboy7 yeah, in boujou it says the 3d object stucks to the roof in my case but when i export it to c4d the text doesnt stuck to the roof. weird
whenever i try to 'import sequence' in boujou it says
'Error (300) The movie file(s) was not found.'
Any idea?
@zPureDzn how do you "load the first image of the video" instead of the whole video"? does it have to be in the jpeg frames thing? also what little image?
sorry i have never motion tracked before
If your clip is a MOV and still doesn't show, try installing QuickTime, it has the necessary codecs needed to deal with *.mov files
Had the same issue. Make sure to use correct FPS and sometimes it depends on footage!
It didnt work with mov, but ima try with avi nao :>

You're doing it wrong then mate. You have to open the material and import the clip as a texture for the material's color.
