Ryan Winkelman I was going through some shit when I saw this scene and I immediately said the same thing. Months later and I’m out, still thinking the same thing. It should happen!! Powerful as FUCK
yea this will forever be my favorite show of all time. idk of a more brilliant deep show to date. i love that they cut it at 4 seasons as well. it’s perfectly set for history.
Well that's the thing, it's not really Russ, it's how a grieving son sees his father. He asks him if he had any intention of hurting Byrde and he says that he's "not in the business of hurting people". Obviously we know that's not true, it's just Wyatt wishing it was the case
@@yomama629 I agree, this version of Russ looks like he's at peace and just a regular father not the lying, cheating, stealing manipulative man he was in life. Just a great piece writing here.
The love between them wasn’t anything you really saw till this scene. You feel the sorrow and loss that he feels for his dad. This kids character continues to grow on you quickly. His dad was pretty likable too- just a product of poverty and old ways.
Well there was like when he kicked his brother ass for teasing him and when he told him Charlotte wasn't for him . He showed him how to work on boats and cars .
This is a great scene, you see Russ through Wyatt's eyes and it really brings his pain to a level you can relate to... it humanizes both of them at the same time, brilliantly done.
This scene was so profound. Here I am years after watching the series and this scene comes to mind. It’s just something I can’t forget. Absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful…I just don’t have all the words to describe how this scene makes me feel. Very well done.
I LOVED Russ Langmore!! Very complex character. Wish this character didn't end the way he did. The actor Marc Menchaca is very talented. Love this scene!!
This scene made me tear up, especially since my father taught me guitar and he passed away about 9 years ago now... Fuck man, it doesn't feel like 9 years...
@@VirtuaSavage just live and love in a way that you know would make him proud. I'm not trying to preach to you or anything like that, but I truly believe that you two will be reunited one day. Pain isn't a weakness, it's what makes us human
Just read the theorized meaning of this song. David Bowie wrote this song discussing his inner struggles with his own sexuality. (much like the character Russ who struggled accepting himself). Bowie wrote this song to play as a conversation with himself (much like how Wyatt talks to his father to help come to terms with his passing). Not sure if this is an intentional Easter egg or accidental but DAMN fits so well with whats happening. I love the writing in this show!
Lighting in a bottle this scene, On so many levels. The connection of shared music between father and Son. The slow pan and out of focus reveal of Russ to Wyatt. Is it a shared memory ?? Russ’s fantastic rendition of the song and even when Wyatt joins in gingerly. Heartbreaking. :( Pure Class ;) Respect to all involved ;)
I bawled my eyes out when I watched this scene, and I keep randomly thinking about it and crying. The amount of pain shown here is just so overwhelming.

One of the greatest scenes in cinematic history, reminds me of my uncle Jay, he loved teaching me songs on the guitar. He was SO talented. I miss you so much, Jay
This may sound a bit crazy but I think the snip bit played by Marc Menchaca is better than even Kurt Cobain and David Bowie. You just want him to continue and finish playing the song. The context of this scene makes it incredibly touching and sorrowful. Marc if you're reading this, please record a full version!
This is one of my favourite scene on Ozark. What a voice. The Langmores are my favourite as well. Their family is the one that has suffered tremendously since the Byrdes arrived in town.
Just finished season2 this weekend. Happened to be tooling around with my acoustic when this scene started and Russ's line kinda startled me. "That chord change always did fuck with ya." me: huh?!? Crazy powerful scene on multiple levels. Absolutely perfect. And a surprisingly good singing voice in the actor. I wish he had a full version of this song recorded.
When I first watched this and didn’t know what song to expect, this played and I spent a good month listening to David (And Kurt) sing this. Such a good some
My dad committed suicide when I was a very young child. I always come back to this video because it kind of makes me think of him. This over 20 years ago now. The “I thought you died alone, a long long time ago” part always hits the hardest.
Agent Petty beating his meat to Russ's voice in the earlier scene makes a lot more sense to me after hearing Russ sing "The Man Who Sold The World". Like Agent Petty, I wanted more.
I watched Ozark S3 then started S1 and S2 again, I was saying to myself at S2E4 the Wyatt and Russ scene wont be the same so don't be disappointed. Just the opposite ...... even more hauntingly moving ... yes please ... sing this right through.
I'm up for it. Dude has a voice on him for sure, along with a natural feel for music. I was genuinely impressed by his acoustic performances from this series.
This is super deep not many people know this is actually a David Bowie song originally not nirvana (nirvana did it better) but the meaning of the song is he fooled the world for so long making them believe he was straight so he has come face to face with himself. The real him (gay) and the front he put on for the world. This is so cool because Russ langmore was a closet homosexual so the fact they chose this song is so perfectly fitting.
That's not what the song is about. It's about him playing the part of David Bowie and coming "face-to-face" with his true self, David Jones. He has said that he had sexual experiences with men, but preferred women.
I wanted him to keep going and sing the whole song.
WE wanted Im from Argentina and Loved his voice.

In the small chance the actor singing is reading this. Can you please make a video rendition of this song. The whole song. Great voice

@Sightless Sniper. Well you may or may not have noticed, but he is playing a character that is not all up there.

If there’s one thing Ozark is consistent with, it killing off its most compelling characters way too early.
