Great video! I did three weeks in Europe with just a small backpack. It was the heat of summer, so, for clothing, I just brought 7 very lightweight summer dresses - made for very light packing. Helped that a couple of my accommodations had washing machines. One thing I started doing is taking a picture of everything laid out on my bed, every single item, before packing, and then adjusting my next packing experience based on what I ended up not using. This has allowed me to pack absolutely minimally and really fine tune my packing list.

@@maryburger1232 Not really. Dresses are "one and done". Plus they are a step up in style from pants/shorts and a t-shirt.

I have watched A LOT of packing videos on youtube but this one really helped me figure out where to place my packing cubes. I was placing my equivalent items on the opposite side of my bag from yours ever since I bought my bag about 3 years ago and I was becoming frustrated with how little I could fit even though I was using cubes and coming up with smaller and smaller packing lists. I *almost* caved and bought a new bag (it was the bag's fault, right?), thankfully now I don't have to! For some reason when I followed your layout it was amazing how much room I still had in my bag and I didn't need to use my bag's expansion zipper. I really really try to reserve that for the trip home. So I had to come here and thank you for taking the time to film this video!

One tip for European travelers, for budget airlines her suitcase will be too wide. There are some airlines that require carry-ons to be under 55x40x20 cm. Try checking out some other brands for that.

@@KC73 for those that are spontaneous in Europe: you could sometimes spend hundreds of dollars more to get the right airline, and sometimes there is no other airline, so all your precious gifts in your carry on get checked in as luggage, and viola - poof - it’s lost.

The large drawstring bag your new suitcase came in looks like a perfect laundry bag for the whole crew while traveling. When at a lodging location, everyone’s dirties can go in it, and when full, make your way to the nearest washing machine!

Nice video. I wouldn't take the whole pack of makeup remover as it could become bulky. Just take the amount you'll probably need for the days you'll be gone. Place them in a plastic glad bag. They hold very well and stay moist.

This was a very good video. I always pack carryon only. Many videos I watch about this have really casual outfits with shorts and tees. Since I am older that is not my style. I enjoyed yours because of your selection of clothes and shoes. I often need to take a dressy outfit for dinner or special occasion so I fit that in a carry on as well. Thanks!

I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip. Great video with good tips.
Carry-on is the best way to go & be prepared with your essentials in your personal item in case your bag gets gate checked for any reason & bag nightmare happens.
The luggage appears to be pretty sturdy & with bells and whistles to pass requirements, a great bag though a bit pricey. I also carry a power coverter when traveling to Europe or So America & can be purchased at most airports if you forget, I did once. My family has the great debate on the folding or roll method- whether you use cubes (great to keep things separate) or roll method which sometimes works well to tuck things in spaces.
I like putting my socks in shoes to save a wee bit of space.
Yes, I carry my coat too, take a scarf as can keep me warm & neck pillow, little first aid kit with wipies.

We discovered on our first trip to Europe that having the biggest suitcase money can buy was not the greatest idea! When you have to change platforms to catch connecting trains and there are flights of stairs to negotiate a big suitcase is just a backbreaker. Needless to say we bought new small cases on our return home ☺️. I appreciate this video because you can always learn a trick or two and like you I have become a fan of packing cubes, they also stop things getting so creased. Your setup looks really good, both practical and attractive pieces of luggage! Thanks for another great video!

If you stuff your shoes with rolled-up socks, stockings or pantyhose, you will prevent your shoes from getting crushed. Instead of folding them, if you roll-up pants, skirts and shirts and keep them rolled-up with rubber bands, your garments will be less wrinkled when you unpack them.
Find out your airline's latest policy on carry-on luggage and also whether your assigned seat has space under the seat in front of you for storage. Some airlines now only allow you one carry-on and one personal item (such as a hand bag). Some put a weight limit on carry-on bags. If you exceed the number or weight of carry-ons, they will be taken from you at check-in or at boarding and stored in the airplane's luggage hold (that means you will still have to go to the luggage area to retrieve your carry-on). Make sure you can easily lift your packed carry-on over your head -- do not expect a male traveler to come to your rescue if you cannot lift your carry-on into the overhead compartment.

Thx for sharing your packing tips. During my last 6 trips I have even gone with half of this. My bulkiest clothing is worn on the plane. My rule of 3 means only taking minimal item numbers and then visiting laundromats over there. My carry-on fits under the seat and my everyday bag, about A4 size houses incidentals for the flight as well as day to day items when on outings.
Your tips are so practical. Why take our whole wardrobe and lug it around when we can go light weight?! Will check out more of your vids.

I like the idea of using a carry on only, but I have a disability and can't always lift luggage above my head to store it. I also use a cane and the thought of dragging a suitcase around the airport is daunting. I also need more than a few ounces if hair and skin care products, so checking in is much easier for me. Knowing how many items of clothes (except I work out often and need exercise clothes) is useful though. 🙂

I enjoy using the packing cubes, too. My main two problems are shoes and extras. I usually want to take way too many shoes for every possible occasion that might come up. And I like to have a notebook, pencils, markers, etc. Those are the areas I have to watch or my bag gets way too heavy.

And it’s warm there, so no boots or coats needed! I am taking a cool blanket for the trip. Are you familiar with them! Got it on Amazon! Thank you for pointing out the TSA restriction on liquids. 3 ounces per container and all containers must fit in a quart size standard Ziploc bag. So many other packing videos throw their large size shampoo bottles in the carry-on or have their makeup and other supplies sorted separately. This would be a nightmare and a disaster at the airport when they ask you to pull out your liquids or you are separated for private screening.

[[Outside of USA there are many carriers with a 7 or 8 kg weight limit. 10 kg used to be the standard but many have dropped that limit and do enforce it. This was such a well thought out and helpful video.
We recently did a 8 day trip to NZ with carry-on luggage only. It was manageable and a lot quicker going through the airport. We are off to LA and then cruising from San Diego to Vancouver then flying back down to LA (about 2 weeks). We are very tempted to do carry-on only but it might be one large suitcase with carryon. We have a 4yo so there’s always a need to pack some toys and inevitably we buy some things when we are overseas (I live in Australia).

They NEVER show you how to pack for a winter holiday, only flimsy summer stuff, good luck trying to pack 2 weeks gear for mid winter ( winter coat, snow boots, winter/ski trousers, jumpers, etc...)

Great tips! Our son and his family live in New Zealand, and our extended family are all in the US (we live in Canada). Every single time I pack, I end up taking a lot of things I don’t use, so I know I could make your tips work. That would make my husband happy too, especially if we didn’t have to check any bags! 😊

I wouldn't take jeans on an overseas trip although I live in them at home. I prefer stretch pants which are thinner to pack and quicker to dry out in hotel bathrooms. Also as an older woman I feel that unless you are young and thin your appearance in jeans is unlikely to get a positive reaction from people who encounter you.

I would have loved to have seen your ten outfits - just to have an idea of how you made outfits from so few clothes.

    • @SnowySpiritRuby

Don't know about Robin, but my strategy is to only bring tops that will go with all the bottoms I'm bringing - that way, it doesn't matter what's clean and what's not, because as long as I have at least one clean top and one clean bottom, I have an outfit that works; if it's a bottom that can go more than one wear before being washed, even better. I went on a 2-week trip to Italy with 4 tops and 2 bottoms (excluding outer layers like a sweater), and only repeated any outfit once, if at all, because that combo gave me 8 outfits and I was only gone for 15 days (not that I cared whether or not I repeated any outfits, because I didn't). Because I was going to have to rewear things, I washed with the hotel shampoo in the sink as I went so I never ran out. It left a ton of room in my 19" carryon (the only carryon-size suitcase I own). It has been over 11 years since I've been on a trip shorter than 1 week (most of my flying trips are 3 1/2 weeks, though I don't fly in the winter, and both where I fly to and where I live get real winter), but even on the rare 1-week trips that I do occasionally take, I still plan to do laundry at some point. Even last Christmas, which was 6 weeks and I drove, I would have been able to fit everything into my carryon if it had been standard size, and this past Christmas (again, driving) was 4 weeks and I did manage to fit everything into my carryon - a far cry from the 2 giant suitcases, 1 rolling carryon, and backpack I would always bring when flying home for Christmas in college (I haven't flown in the winter since then). For me, cutting the amount way back was all about only bringing things where everything went with everything, and only bringing things I actually needed (any clothing I needed and didn't have, I borrowed from my mom because we're the same size, and that was still only 1 or 2 things).

I'm late to the packing party! Just discovered your channel! Here are my 2 issues with making carry-on only difficult for me: #1 Packing everything in my carry-on makes it too heavy for me to lift in and out of the overhead compartment. #2 Souvenirs! What do you do about those?!

The only time that I flew was out of the country for 3 weeks. I took 1 regular size rollon luggage and the smaller carry on that also rolled. None of us had a bag like was carried with your regular luggage. I would have thought this was too big to also carry on. Please, any comments anyone? It seemed like this would be 2 carry ones. If I returned again, I would have liked less luggage and clothes! Like I said though, I did not think I could carry on anything like both bags shown.
