    I have ALWAYS used standard Zippo lighter fluid to remove adhesives off of plastic items. It works on old and new adhesive, doesn't damage the plastic, and it generally leaves no scent or marks behind. Bonus is that it is normally much cheaper than Goo Gone and doesn't leave any film on your fingers afterwards like GG can. The best part is that you usually don't even have to scrub very hard to get the sticker/adhesive off. I start out by putting a small amount directly on the sticker and once it has been peeled off, I just use a little bit more on a paper towel for wiping off any remaining residue. Great video!

    Mrs. Meyer's is AMAZING! I love the Honeysuckle too but I want to try the Fresh Cut Grass scent! Love the tips - amazing how dusty and dingy some of these awesome finds are but you got them sparkling clean :D I've never tried the Watkins dish soap but I do recommend 9 Elements - great brand and all natural! Goo Gone is one of my FAVORITE products!!! It totally works for grease pens too if you get any cool vintage finds from the DAV! Hoorah for using your PC scraper - I use mine ALL THE TIME, not just on my stoneware!

      Thanks Verna! You have a keen eye, I figured you'd recognize that little PC scraper. They are so handy, and I use them for all kinds of things too! I've never heard of the soap you mentioned, sounds good. I buy Watkins dish soap (and other products) at Menards. Their seasonings are great too, by the way. Oh yes, those dang grease pens at the DAV! I haven't been shopping there lately, but I need to go soon because I've found some of my best thrifted items there. Have a great day!!

    Mr. Clean Magic erasers clean off magic marker really easily also! Sometimes, depending on what materials the plastics are made of and whether or not they have a clear coat… sometimes when using fingernail polish, especially if it contains acetone…it will remove the magic marker, but it also kind of messes up the shiny finish on some vintage items. I would do a test spot in an inconspicuous place before using on expensive items😊

      Great advice, thanks Jennifer! Magic Erasers are a great product. We use them for all sorts of things around our house… not sure why I didn’t think of using them on toys too!

      @@Our80sLife most welcome! The problem I’m having right now is the yellowing on the white part of vintage Snoopy figures that I purchased this past weekend at the flea market. I’ve cleaned them, but still yellow.. I now have the lot soaking in hydrogen peroxide out in the sunshine. I’m not sure if this is gonna work but if you know it easier way to get the yellowing off of PVC figurines that would be awesome advice.🙏🤗

      @@jenniferdokken8250 Oh dang, hope it works! 🤞I don’t have any advice with yellowing vinyl, but I’ve had great success using OxyClean on plushies and fabric. I’ve never tried this, but I wonder if you could use a diluted solution of that to whiten toys… might be worth a try. 🤷‍♀️

      @@Our80sLife I’ll try that, it makes sense.. my only other option is a UA-cam video that I saw where the guy used 40 volume cream peroxide from beauty supply store. But I am really afraid that it will be so strong that it will also fade the other colors on the snoopy characters like the ears and Christmas decorations or Easter decorations, so yes I will try Oxy clean first. Thank you.🤗

    If you don’t have goo gone,mayonnaise works!
    Actually any oil will do,as it breaks down the gelatin adhesive.

    You got to be careful with nail polish remover though. I tried using some to take some scuff marks off a vintage NES, and it melted the plastic on top. I guess that particular nail polish had too high of an acetone concentration, and it was old plastic, for sure.

    Is there an alternative for Mrs. Meyers? The scent of the cleaners makes me sneeze my ever loving head off! I'm allergic lol So I have been using Lysol multi purpose disinfecting cleaner and lysol wipes for my general cleaning, but Dawn dish soap and baking soda on toys- mainly Barbie dolls and dolls like Monster High, Disney Princess etc.

    • @Our80sLife
      @Our80sLife  3 роки тому

      Hi Lisa, thanks for watching! I also really like J.R. Watkins multi-purpose cleaner. It's nice and gentle, with a lemon scent that's not overpowering. I buy that one at Menard's. I've used the Lysol multipurpose as well, but I dilute that one because it seems a bit strong. Dawn dish soap is always a safe alternative, good choice.

    Great tips! I have an old tin someone wrote their name on in permanent marker. Tried alcohol to get it off with little luck. Might try nail polish remover next. Not sure what the outcome will be though. I’ve never seen a stain so stubborn! 😅

    • @Our80sLife
      @Our80sLife  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! I would recommend using a very small amount of nail polish remover on a test spot first to ensure it doesn't remove the paint from the tin. Once you determine it's safe, hopefully it will remove the stain. Good luck! 👍

      Interesting question! I do recall, back in the 80s, we used to decorate things like Caboodles and plastic boxes with paint pens. We would write our names and draw little flowers and such. They worked great on the plastic!
