Thanks for all the info. I've been a tiny house owner wannabe since 2017. I'm obsessed with design and living sustainably and within my means. I'm a Toronto resident so I'm desperate to get out of this insane housing $$ treadmill. I'm going broke just by taking up space. 🥺 I can finally do my job remotely so this year my search for a tiny has become a lot more serious. My favourite builder (from a design perspective) is definitely Fritz, and for consistent good work, I've heard Minimaliste is stellar. But my favourite tiny house builder of all-time is located in NZ -- Shaye's Tiny Homes. I first saw her featured on Bryce's UA-cam channel (Living Big in a Tiny House). Of course, her being in NZ, it is impossible to hire her. But apparently Shaye has now partnered with a builder in North America (I think they're in BC) who will build out her designs. I'm going to look into them. There are more builders in Ontario that you didn't mention.... maybe because their reviews aren't great.... so I won't mention them either. 🤐 I'm really enjoying your content. It's great to see a fellow Ontarian woman who is actually living tiny. It's very inspirational!
Thank you so much for sharing your story Eve! I was right where you were just a couple years ago, so I feel for you. Wishing you all the best of luck on your journey! Very limited builder selection here in Ontario that I can or will vouch for. But for sure check out the Tiny Homes in Canada Builder Directory link in the description. Any builders that they list there are trust worthy sources!
I may replace an old structure on my own property with another one < 10 m2 for a little workshop/office space. It wouldn't be a tiny home and wouldn't need a permit, because it would have no plumbing. Would you recommend consulting a tiny home builder in that context?
You might still need a permit just for the size. I know someone who needed a permit just to build a storage shed because of the size, foundation, and electricity hook-up. So you should still check with your municipal by-laws just in case, or just go for it but know there might be consequences if your neighbours rat on you. There are a lot of modular builders who make mobile offices, especially after the pandemic a lot of those businesses started up. Doesn't need to be a residential builder necessarily
@@CasaDuroTinyHome I didn't realize modular mobile office builders were a thing. I will look into that, thanks. BTW, here in Toronto, the rules very recently changed. Without a permit they now allow a basic shed up to 15 m2 and a workshop with no plumbing up to 10 m2.
great video! Finding a local builder is important if you don't have the $$$$$$$$ to afford for the house to be shipped from another province or country! Thank you for pointing out reputable builders in Canada and all this great info! Looking forward to the next vid!
Good video. I have to add to the builders that you mentioned. I’ve been researching this for years. I actually know who your builder is but I will not say in here. I will add to the list and If anyone sees it I hope it will be helpful. Ontario - Acorn Tiny Homes, Little Creek Tiny, Custom by Arie, True North Tiny, Barry Bay Tiny Alberta -TreeHugger Tiny, Fritz Tiny, personal favourite ZeroSquared Tiny, Teacup tiny (That is one owner that is so enthusiastic I can’t help myself from watching and they build a great home.) British Columbia- Mint tiny, Nelson tiny, Rewild tiny, Sunshine tiny, Vancouver Island tiny, Canadian tiny homes. And my all time favourite which in my opinion nobody can beat and my retirement in a few years is in Quebec Minimaliste Tiny Homes.
Hahaa you did mention my builder in your list!😜 It's ok though, from everyone I'm in touch with who is also living in a house built by TNTH, they are gonna go out of business very soon. Everyone but the owners have quit. They offered to pay me to fix my problem myself because they have no staff left, but they still owe me money. Someone I am in touch with has much more serious issues with their home than I do that still need to be addressed, and have not heard back from TNTH for months. So STAY AWAY from them!
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Yes, the builder is on the list at this time but not exactly who they are. If it’s online I can find it. There will be a lot of new builders who will be starting since this is just getting started. More municipalities are changing the rules. I don’t think tiny homes are going anywhere. They are here to stay. When the prices of homes are just going through the roof. Ex. I live in Niagara Falls and a house on my block just sold for 1.3 mil. Ridiculous. And 2 blocks from me going for over 2 million. People have to do their own research before signing or giving any money for a tiny home.
We are also in Ontario. Do you have anywhere you go to look for reviews of some builders or some places to find groups to connect with. I have found a few builders we are interested in but hesitant to proceed without hearing feedback from previous customers etc. I'm in a couple groups on Facebook but a lot of the builders are also in there so I feel it would be hard to find people who used them. Would love to know of places you know of where I could connect with people.
Hi all. I'm an Ontarioitte born and raised. I'm going to have one built once I'm fully recovered from a stroke and working again. Since I'm not sure I'll be able to drive again I want my tiny either on a foundation or raised a little off the ground. I want mine to have the bedroom in a lift with a spiral staircase. Would you please give me the name if the builder in Toronto?? Since I live about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from there. I'd like to do some research on them see pictures of some of there finished work. So I can see what I like and don't like.
Hey Sheri. Did you watch this video? I mention every builder I recommend in the video, and also have links in the description to each of their respective websites.
Great info for me! (I live in the US). What builder did you use so I can make a better calculated decision on a North America Builder for my tiny house that I will be permanently living in (US)
Hey Kelli! I would not recommend my builder to anyone, so I do not mention them by name. They owe me money and work and have not been in contact with me for over a month. I know other people who live in houses they built who have also been ignored for months. I am fairly sure they are going out of business soon.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Thank you for answering my question!✨ I'm so sorry to hear about all your troubles and that it has been a pattern with other tiny owners :( I will concentrate my efforts on well established, highly rated builders and I sincerely hope everything works out for you and the other tiny owners 🙏
Great info! Thank you for referencing and linking everything!
