There does seem to be a lot of shady folks in the "Tiny House Space". All the more reason to lean to DIY as much as you can. Even just learning the basics of building terminology can be a huge help, and being able to repair your own home can be very handy cost-effective when you're Off-Grid/far from town. Knowledge is power. Cheers from FL!

Great video. And I like how you stressed that it isn't the fault of the victim if they get scammed. That's a message that often gets lost.

I have had a horrible experience with one of the largest tiny home builders out there. Truly unbelievable. Buyer beware. At least I am only $29,000 in the hold as of now. Have requested buy in money and deposit back. We will see. As a senior citizen it is very upsetting and people should know.

Can you tell us who the builder is so people can be aware?

@@CasaDuroTinyHome All I will say is they are in TN and are really big into videos. Unfortunately, what they state in the videos, then what the salespeople say, then what is in a video a week later all are contradictory. I don't know how anyone other than what they really push, the shell boxes for do-it-yourself folks, can keep anything straight on what they paid and what they are getting. Their big interest now is that the flaky duo are loved by so many they are getting a netflix show. That is the rumor and what the owner intimated in another video. They also state that most who buy in to rent a lot there are single old women over 50. Yesterday's video he is now talking about making the communities a city and having assisted living. He can keep adding plans and goofing around but cannot produce an honest contract. Wonder how many there may have had the same problem but didn't realize it before signing their contract and then were stuck. They now won't answer me that I am getting both the lot buy in money back along with the 20% I put down prior to getting the contract. They used the old, "only a few lots left", tactic on me to get $10,000 without a contract as they were too busy and I had to go back and I live four hours away. Made an appointment then was rushed as it was a holiday and they wanted to close early plus had other customers waiting since the "SALE", ended that day. What a scam. Also in yesterday's video the owner bragged about how they have hundreds of lots more. So months ago, in order to get all those $10,000 buy in deposits, they used the, "almost out of lots", tactic. He sounds so sincere and believable, but believe me, it is an act. I did not proof this, I am so angry I can't see straight. I have the weight in the pit of my stomach that I am going to have to get an attorney. Just look on youtube for tiny homes vidoes and most people will catch on. His videos are public so I am not saying anything that isn't already public. When I started getting the feeling I was being ripped off, I searched like BBB and Complaint boards and I found many posts about them where other had gone through the same thing. They have totally messed up my life as now I have to start from square one and it is sickening. The duo are so hopped up on themselves and their stupid personal life splattered all over, which I thought was unprofessional but liked what I heard from a business standpoint, they, in my opinion, will crash again. And like the owner said in another video, he couldn't care less what is said about he and his significant other, and if it all goes to pot, he did his best for people so he doesn't care. Those were almost his words exactly. That video started me worrying. Just watch all the videos and you will see the constant changing of features and then compare with their website where they post the spec sheets and you will see the mass of confusion whether deliberate or unintentional. They have a handful of residents who in one of the first communities who are their fan club and who are always videoed as how wonderful he is. What about the other 130 residents? Or those like me who are fighting to get their money returned. You are told they would never cheat anyone. Just believe what they tell you. When you give them the $10,000 buy-in money, with no contract at that point, no anticipated delivery date and promises, again watch the videos, that they have no intention of raising the lot rents, even though the written paper given to you when you give them the money states the opposite. When you question anything that differs in writing than what the agreement was, you are then their enemy and treated as such. Like I told him, this is business and a written contract will always supersede a verbal, "he saiid, she said". I conduct business just like he does with his contracts for all his land and business dealings. He has refused to ever even answer my emails personally because he knows I am on to him. How dare me! LOL

@katheryn7318 I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible experience , I agree Buyer Beware with that TN builder.
From first glance they seem great to consider, but upon closer look, and doing a deep dive there are some considerable red flags.
Hope all works out for you 🙏

I can't believe all the typos in my post. I must have really been angry. I did, in fact, get every penny back. I feel sorry for those who drank their kool-aid. I bet before you know it, those lot rents will be $500 a month just as the lot rents are now starting in their new Carolina community. I guess when "The Beach", renters realize half dead palm trees in concrete do not constitute a real beach, you will find some angry renters. I am so thankful that I listened to my intuition. The more I watched their videos the more they reminded me of snake oil salesmen.

In the US there's the Napa and there's RV and then the park model out of Oregon there's antsy they are for Park models and also mobile homes antsy certification is one of the certifications by incredible tiny homes then there's Noah I believe that one is also an RV and also Park Model certification and a lot of the US Builders are now seeking modular certification because if you have a modular certification it's easier to get financing loans

Sorry if you've already answered this I'm new to your channel and as a fellow Canadian the information your channel me is invaluable. My questions are how did you get around the you can't live in a tiny house/rv for more then 10 month and where is your tiny house parked now on a piece of land? A RV park, a piece of property owned by someone else?

Hello there! I am parked in a privately owned trailer park. Yes, technically they are "closed for 2 months"..... but in reality they do not. We actually had a fire in the park in January so the cops and the fire department were here and they know people are living here. The landowner has been here for over 30 years and they've never faced any issues.

@@CasaDuroTinyHome thank you for your reply this is vey good information! as a Canadian heavily considering a tiny house. channels like yours that provide this information are amazing. trying to even just look for where I can permanently park a tiny house and be in line legally is so hard ;-; yeah there are RV parks but trying to search for one that allows long term stays and the place is not a total dump is such a task. any suggestions on where I can look online for where I can park and live in a tiny house all year round?
