Quest Now Forcing Age Verification! No More Quest 1 Apps & Tons More!

- I am back after a slightly longer Easter break and will be telling you all about the latest in AR & VR News. First of all, we will start with the Quest 1 slow store death. Next month you will no longer be able to find new apps on the store that support the Quest 1. After this, we will quickly jump into info I have on eye tracking being made work with the Meta Quest 3. This seems to be something anyone can do and fits inside the Quest 3 device giving you access to eye tracking. Meta will now also require you to confirm your age before you are able to continue using your account on your device. This could include verification with ID or a credit card. The v64 update on the Quest 3 and other Quest devices seems to have brought back an old bug that breaks mic recording on screen capture, and finally we will talk about spatial personas finally being added to the apple Vision Pro as well as Netflix creating a VR headset prop that they are now selling. Hopefully, nobody thinks it's real and buys it for that reason! I hope you enjoy this video :D

It's only been about a week but it feels like so much longer! How have you all been doing?😃
Hey! I know you said credit card, but I assume a debit card will also work? Let me know, thank you!
I'm actually not sure about that myself but I assume that yes, a debit card should work as not everyone has a credit card :)
please give me a quest 2 mate 😭
If they release a quest pro 2, im hoping they add micro oled.
Yes, I feel the same way if you’re talking about Easter being only one week ago.
This only means , that irresponsible parent logs on then passes it to their child.
Exactly what ill do
At least now those shitty parents will have less excuses.
Thanks for the updates, genuinely my first place for VR News
Forced age verification is pointless, how would they know the user and the age verified owner are same person? Do I have to lock my headset away when I'm not using it?
They don't. It benefits meta in 2 ways: more data on their users, and token action they can claim they're taking to protect da kids
Select user -> report -> poof. It really is that easy.
Meta records you. They can simply use AI to compare the user's voice to their records to determine if its you, if you're of age, and if you're sharing with a minor.
I love my quest 1, it's served me well. Never saw a point in "upgrading" to a Quest 2 since I only play pcvr and the OLED is too good. Though that being said I recently finally saved up enough for a proper upgrade and ordered a Bigscreen Beyond, looking forward to hopefully feeling like I'm experiencing VR for the first time again.
I wont miss the screaming kids!
Exactlyyyyyy
Among Us VR after this update: 📉
It won't get rid of them, irresponsible parents will just sign in or kids will use their parents credit card. Think about Roblox, you need to verify you're 17+ to play 17+ games, but almost everyone my age (15) just used their parents drivers license.
I would not too but I don’t think I am going to be able to play my games or I should say *game* yeah I only got the headset to play one game and maybe a few more but now I probably can’t
@@mrstick2110 ik right? Its bs. Im 25 and im scared I'll be locked out of my headset, i know this is going to backfire lmao
Meta if you are seeing this right now. The minute you implement your ID/ credit card requirement. I will make sure to never use your VR equipment ever again. Also I will make sure to spread the word as well.
So.. are you a criminal trying to lay low, or are you a child? Those are the only valid reasons for being upset about using an ID lmao
I won't for sure send any documents to Meta, be it "photo ID" (driver license) or passport . What a joke! privacy abuse all over. Also: this is not the terms I bought the device under, what's next ? they ask for DNA and fingerprint-photos?
Just ordered a quest 3 yesterday. Paid with a credit card. This is total BS.
Have a screen with confirmation from an adult on the first boot, and only then. Adult has to type in a safety code that's in the meta account that's logged in on the device. Acknowledge they are responsible for the content that gets purchased / downloaded on the device. Accept terms.
Create a password locked "Child mode" or some such that can be enabled, which limits the apps in the shop to only ones suitable for the underage kids.
If I will have to send info to zuck the thief every 30 days, because they're afraid of lawsuits, and or some people are failures at parenting. I'll probably return it.
Doubt it was in people's terms of service when they bought it at the end of 2023. Could be a reason for a class action lawsuit, in itself. 😉
Stop cutting corners at my expense you meta DUCKS. F
You do that every time you open your phone idiot.
If you're worried about privacy you shouldn't be using the Internet.
@@keandredavis9414 Your argument is retra dred, and so are you.
If you're not worried about privacy, you should give out all your information to everyone.
"this is not the terms I bought the device under" ... you agreed to these terms when you made your account to use this device.......
That eye tracking video is part of the Eyetrack vr project
Its been an open source project for a while now that allows you to mod eye tracking into a veriity of headsets
Is it built in or are there physical modifications to the quest? Like could meta make an official update down the road to add this?
Between the forced photo ID submission, forced sign-in and the recent disallowing of quest 1 support, as well as some of the dumb ui/os decisions, I’ll be going elsewhere for my next VR headset…
I'm guessing you either prefer linux over windows or you're below the age of 10... lol

Nothing wrong with caring about privacy, you're probably one of those people who would let law enforcement walk all over you and say "why do you care, if you have nothing to hide" @@radiant9230
@@radiant9230Why? How is it childish to be privacy-conscious?
Same. I am sick of reptilian Zuckerbergs bull isht l, always trying to invade apon someone's privacy. There's literally zero need for meta to know who you are and how old you are, etc.
i love you vids thank you for making thesse videos
I like that Meta restricts a lot of privacy features for preteens and teens, especially for people who use social experiences (e.g. VRchat), it's a good way to directly protect them from being a poached.
They do that because they have to be careful about violating COPA. Or look like they're violating COPA. A loud, not even necessarily merit based class action lawsuit can be bad for their profits.
Adults ought to get a grip and be involved with what their children are doing. Instead being lazy failures at parenting. Messing kids up, and making things annoying for everyone else.
Shouldn't that be VRchat's responsibility?! And how does that prevent kids playing VRchat on flat screen?!? This protects no one, it's ridiculous! The app/game creators should be responsible, not a freaking console!
Why do I, someone who mainly plays Beat Saber and singleplayer games, have to get locked out of the entire console (I bought) if I don't want to provide my age?!?! I am not providing them my freaking ID, and if my console gets locked because of that, I'm selling it! Frick this!
Edit: Hundreds of thousands of kids are on social medias, snap chat, tik tok, etc. Play on Xbox, PS5, Nintendo, PC. They have acces to the entire internet, online games, chat rooms, etc.. But yeah, VR Headset is where we need to protect them! A thing that even a tiny % of gamers own 🤣😭 Cmon. This is clearly about META wanting to *collect data* on adults by disguising it for some "just cause" about protecting kids. It's a freaking lie to easily collect data on all of their users. That's what it's about.
@@Simkets Your conspiracy theory is ridiculous. This isn't about you, it's to protect children. It's an equal responsibility of both the platform and the game/app to ensure safety of their users. If apps don't do it, then someone has to.
@@Simkets If they had done nothing, Meta would be collecting data on adults AND kids. Do you think they don't already collect adult data? That argument makes zero sense lmao
@@radiant9230 Yeah don't even bother. Just tin foil hat crap. If you don't want your data known, don't buy the damn headset when you know its from a company like Meta, lol.

3:40 If I ever get forced to confirm my age and get locked out of the console for not providing it. Am honestly selling it.
Same. 💯
I dont see why NOT providing it is a big deal.
@@xmantv3162 Have you met an iPad baby before?
@@xmantv3162 Probably Child safety. Children can be exposed to some pretty jacked up stuff in social games such as VRChat and this is a possible solution I think it's a little bit extreme however with trading additional personal information to massive corporations.
maybe for new purchasers, but the part that tastes rotten is being forced to show legal documents to keep using a piece of hardware you already purchased. Sure they should be able to ask for id to join meta horizons, but not just to access your headset and watch youtube or use VD, especially when there was no such rule when you bought it@@xmantv3162
The real reason they are asking for age is marketing and data collection. The more they can refine your profile, they better it will be for them. It will also make it easier to cross reference any Facebook account they have to verify you are the same person as in the Meta account.
You forgot your tinfoil hat on the door

Exactly, how can someone believe that a company known for its predatory data collection is doing this because they want to be the leaders in kid online safety or something xD

Netflix selling a prop VR headset is on brand for being worthless.
Ah, that's actually nice. I would love to enter places like VR chat if it's adults only that are visible to me. I opted out on day one because it was just one huge kindergarden, that was so annoying.
the age verification should be left to the app developers and not the device makers. i think this is especially true when it comes to vrchat cause for the love of god can we kick the screechy 5-13 year olds off and put them onto rec-room so we can have some peace and also not have to watch every word we say.
...that is exactly what meta is trying to do, genius. they want to ban the children from using vrchat on the q3 and getting predated on. VRChat has neither the resources nor the authority to force children off their platform in any real way - meta, however, might just be able to do it. you should be supporting this
@@keyworksurfer Just like with many other companies, protecting kids was never their intention - never has been. It's nothing but another excuse to leech more of your information. Data collection is extremely profitable and they will find any excuse to force you to give up everything about your life. Facebook lured everyone in with an affordable product only to back them in a corner with this announcement. You should NOT be supporting this behavior from companies - this is HORRIBLE. If you seriously think Facebook is a company with the goodest of intentions, then I recommend you educate yourself on their loonnnng history of malicious business practices, because clearly you have no idea what you're talking about.
Very mixed feelings on the age verification stuff. I hate the privacy implications (especially when its Facebook/meta) and that this is a new requirement pushed after the product was purchased. But at the same time there is way too many children in VR and it is an annoying problem. Bad parents love to buy quest headsets as a cheap "toy" and let there ipad kids use them without any supervision or restrictions. Places like VRC are not for children.
At end of day its Invasion of privacy with age verification stuff after purchase and as far as children it's really not our problem but parents we are not on vrchat to parent them
VR is over
@@MauseDays Is it? PC VR still exists.
@@jondoe6608 pay no attention to trolls they been saying vr is over for how many years now lol
Not only VRC. VR is not good for children at all, 2 studies suggest.
There is a high possibility of it altering their development of motor skills and other areas.
VR is still "too new" for long term studies to be 100% sure.
But i'm a single parent and i wouldn't risk it with my son, just so he can have some fun and get him "out of the way"
I really don't understand why so many parents are so irresponsible.
I agree on meta though. It's not a company to be trusted and i highly doubt they have only noble intentions with the verification.
But it still a barrier for irresponsible parents/kids. Though a kid could still play on the parents account >.>
WHEN WILL SCOPED STORAGE GET FIXED
I got locked out of my headset recently for not being old enough, so I had to factory reset it and create a whole new account. Worst part is that the games i bought on the old account never got refunded.
Then you should have logged into the meta account on your meta quest app with the username and password instead of creating a new one because a factory reset doesn’t delete your account much less the games, that would be Bullshit. If you’re too young for a headset then you shouldn’t own one if you obviously don’t know how to properly use one.
I got a quest 3 finally about a week maybe 10 days ago. It updated to v64 before I could use it. The headset has done 2 additional updates but is running different versions of v64 (new numbers) any idea what this is or if it’s just because I have the public test Channel turned on?
yall on v64 already?!?!? is scoped storage fixed yet?
the OLED on the Q1 still makes it better for viewing than either the Q2/Q3 by a gap, and I do hope they roll out laying down mode for the Q1 as well before they wash their hands of it. It's a fire addition to the quest 2, but I think since the Q1 is basically a portable OLED screen going forward, having full range of comfort on it would go a long way to making it not feel like ewaste.
The quest 3 has a much higher resolution screen, which is much more important then having an older screen, you can’t even see the pixels on the quest 3
@@barvin9271fair enough, personally for me I’d take resolution over screen type, but I guess it depends on your preferences
amendment to my message - they have as of my last reboot re-added laying down mode to the Q1, so I'm happy as a clam with both my headsets now.
I'm glad they're doing the age thing I'm tired of squeakers in rec room and gtag
unpopular opinion (and I dont care), the age shouldn't be 10. it should be higher. the age verification is good, but its way too stupidly easy to bypass.
You dont use your real name on youtube yet preach others should be doxxed or lose access to their 200+ doller device. Nobody should care what you have to say.
Man I’m 15 and my mom likes that I can do everything on my headset myself. So could I still do everything I can do now or will it not let me play blade and sorcery or something
It will let you
in my opinion I think it should be up to the developer to support q1 or not so I fully agree.
A pair of ar/xr glasses, would probably fit very nicely, in that Netflix headset.
The age verification thing is crazy. Parents can make the decision for what their kids do. It's not like your 9 year old is going to go out and buy a quest by themselves without you knowing and use it to talk to strangers online. It sounds an awful lot like meta wants to confirm your identity so they can better sell your data.
VR is basicly over now
@@MauseDays That's pretty dramatic.
I agree it's likely for data collection but may also be to cover their legal bases & say "Well we had this system in place" to avoid responsibility of their underage peeps. Since there will always be parents who point the finger at the company if something bad starts happening (like how youtube got in trouble for what kids were uploading/shown EVEN THO they have a UA-cam Kids version for parents to give to their kids).
@@mica4977there's also states and or countries that are requiring similar age verification to access adult content
meta is not doing this out of the good of their hearts, theyre doing this to stop from regulations coming to them from congress

If this is where gorilla tag children ends, I'm coming back
I don't really know what to think about the age confirmation. On one hand, I definitely will not be missing all of the screaming kids, but on the other hand, I'd rather not have to send them a picture of my ID or some BS.
Who will stop them from borrowing parents id? It change nothing.
The mic audio is very much present on Quest 2 as well. Why are people pretending that this is only a Quest 3 and Pro issue? I have plenty of recordings from my Quest 2 that don't have mic audio even though according the the UI, it was being recorded.
FOR THE MICROPHONE BUG
If you mute yourself a few times it should fix it as i was recording with my mate and had this issue and muting fixes it
Alright, I thought about it. Here's the better alternative Facebook...
If parental control is enabled, the account is locked out from adult content without the PIN. Then parent can choose the age range. Wait, this has been a thing for consoles since forever ago? Amazing! Now adopt that instead FB.
This has been a thing for a long time, yet the amount of kids that appear in VR games hasn't changed a bit. That means what they've been doing didn't work.
Is the Quest 3 Eye Tracking using existing sensors or is an addon?
There is no ir lights and sensors in Quest 3 no
It is an addon, open source project called EyetrackVr
I looked through notifications on my quest 3 and there was nothing about age verification?
I bet someone could mod a Bigscreen Beyond into that prop.
he probably only has one eye working because of the way our eyes focus when we look at things, getting less close the farther the thing is and nearly crossing when something is right in your face...dont even get me going on the issue of them turning into our heads when someone walks through you and is behind you.

I use my quest 2 for PCVR anyways, I only needed the account to access the headset. I don't need anything else they can lock my store and restrict my settings all they want. As long as PCVR is still a option the jokes will be on Meta.
But overall I think the age restriction is needed. age verification its just a dream bro, no more 7 y old trolling games and screaming shit... thank you god for hearing our prayers
I only hope you can continue to download your excisting apps.. and to be honest no new Apps on Quest 1 already happened when the Quest 2 came out. Whenever you went on the App store most games said Quest 2 only anyway..
Dobry wieczór wszystkim
That Age Verification the kids will get around that so damn easy. What is there to stop them from getting mom and dads ID or credit card info like they been doing just to get on? Or mom and or dad don't care. This is a waist of time if you ask me.
Whoop Whoop!!!
Age verification is great news and it seems those who are opposing it are those who are under age. If the parent decides to let their kids be in charge of the parental controls after so be it but it's a good boundary to place
I'm in my late 20s (no I won't give you my ID to prove that). This age verification is an awful step. Nobody should be forced to hand over their personal information after spending $1000 on a device. I'm sorry you don't have as much respect for yourself and your own information, willing to share everything about you to every single company... because "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" or "IT'S FOR YOUR SAFETY". The $1000 price tag was already a MASSIVE barrier of entry, and you can just set a password for app purchases/device changes. Meta doesn't give a shit about your kids.
I oppose it because sharing your ID with Meta will lead to issues.
I allready don’t trust them
oculus-- i mean META. really shunned us early adopters of the quest. we were locked out of making parties (why???) last year too i think. ive been using my quest 1 exclusively for pcvr since 2022 because of how we're being treated.
Everyone complaining u can verify with a credit card if u ever used that to buy an app guess what they have your address and everything already
How can they force age verifications on a device you already purchased. This seems fishy…
As an adult, I don't want to be content restricted but i also want the privacy that kids will get. If only these forced social features were opt-in rather than opt-out (if you even can)
I'd love the age verification. Less kids in games ruining things 😂
The title. Quest is now forcing age verification. Me a vr chat player. "It's about time".
There are really SA VRChat players?
So why are you posting under an anon name without your real face and identity. If you are so shure everyone should be doxed to use a vr headset then practice what you preach. Where's your real name and face? No problom posting it right.
Meta will screw themselfs but I don’t care. Meta was summy to begin with
Yeah, they should allow devs to make games for any old headset they want. If the devs are aboe to optimise that well then they shouldn't be punished.
Why dont they just have us give them our social security numbers? 😅
