- Primus performing "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" for MTV's Spring Break 1992. I captured this from my own VHS-recorded copy of the broadcast from back in the day. :)
Whoever tuned and mixed those drums is a goddamn hero they sound perfect
Ler is a very underrated guitarist it's also amazing that he's just a straight cable guy he just stands there rocks like a rocking chair
Les (RIGHTFULLY SO!) gets so much credit but Ler is super underappreciated and critical to the band's success. Like... how in the hell does one write guitar parts around Claypool's parts? I'm a guitarist and I'd have absolutely no idea. Ler is able to perfectly write stuff that helps the song, gives the song atmosphere, but doesn't compete for headroom/attention with Claypool's bass work. Dude is a master.
Les Claypool, Renaissance man, American Minister of Silly Walks and Statesman. One of only a handful of frontmen who made me wanna laugh & mosh & bang my head at the same time.
This is so sad how the times changed. The 90's were so awesome. Can you even imagine kids having fun watching Primus at a Spring Break, let's say in 2017?
Now they're having fun watching bands like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Hate to break it to ya but young people still enjoy concerts and music.
yeah people still mosh at primus concerts man
People mosh at like rap and trap concerts nowadays, man (even though I hate most of it)
That's racist......now you will be ended on Twitter 😂😂😂🔥😉 LOL.. does that sound about right?
I hate my generation, everyone would probably be staring at their phones
Aw, The mighty Pringles Blimp!
Great video!! My (now) husband and I met in Daytona Beach during this spring break and were in that crowd, too! This was a couple of days after we met. I'm guessing that week was 3/8/92 - 3/14/92. Trying to figure out the exact day we met.... :)
Its like funk mixed with metal..
I'VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY IN MY ENTIRE LIFE :'D
90's rocked, can you imagine primus playing at the spring break in 2011?
ah, when we used to tape our favorite videos and live performances back when MTV was good, thanks for posting!
This looks lit maybe I'm just super stoned or maybe it's the blimp in the back
Just think, all these 20 year olds at this spring break are going into their 40's now. Crazy to think about
Well, what the Hell's goin' on here anyway?
Dude was wearing a Grateful Dead shirt and sunglasses, was definitely on drugs 😂
Primus sucks
@@theposerhoser why would you watch this
@@brandonebelein1164 it's an old saying from back in the day brother, I love this band (:
@@blakejones8396 just read today that Les and Larry are acid at this show
1:29 - EPIC
Need the full live performance of this.
You just watched it
cleanest recording ever lalonde is possessed
Yep! His first band is possessed also!
Every Time I Get Stressed Out, I Crank This Video Up Full Blast
And Get Much Needed Relief !! GREAT JAM!!!
SICK Les claypool is the best front man bassist ever...he's amazing...can't wait when Primus comes to Brooklyn this summer ... I'M THERE
@ George Slade Ler is playing a Paul Reed Smith guitar.
Those beats are fuckin sick man...
Very crisp
This is just what I needed today. Thx for posting this up!
i love how claypool is waring the GD shirt
@Laggalaggadingdong Ler is one of the best guitarists ever and his lines sound fucking amazing. Why would you leave him out?
When MTV played great Eclectic bands and real music now they just play shows like Catfish and Teen Mom. Primus was great I saw them open for Tool in San Diego in 2016
9 days till les gets 50 years old. almost cant believe it..
Back in those days people knew how to have fun. Just look at the crowd.
this song gives me the goosbumps and the pick up jam at 1:30 gives me a shot of adrenaline every time up my spine
i love how les is wearing a dead shirt
@haproductions you'll really see it on the live version of "Shake Hands With Beef" on here with Brain on drums at the time
Primus will always kick more ass than anybody ever.
30 years ago, wtf! I'm old
Dude thank you for uploading these vids.
90's FTW!
@morrron5
At :30 they blanked out "God Damn"
Jerry was a racecar driver, he drove so GOD DAMN fast.
and it blanked out at godamn
I have this performance on a VHS that I taped from MTV somewhere...
All Hail the 90's!!!
2:05 Ahhh, strech my legs
a lot of internet people would disagree, and im aware that it's possibly outdated
wow i wish spring break was like that these days
Saw 'em live last month, it was fucking fantastic! They played with Gogol Bordello. They're like my two favorite bands!
i cant wait to see them live in may in indiana=]
@ThrobnWood Herb is my favorite drummer of all time!
oh how i wished to have been there
not one damn cellphone in sight. oh, the (good ol) days of living in the moment
Five Stars!!
how the hell does he pull these basslines out of his head in the studio?
OMG so amazing
Awesome
only on primus vids do i give all my internets away.. take em brother
the things i would give to be in a mosh pit at a primus concert in 90s again.
good times
Sorry you guys didn't have a chance to see MTV when it had rock music on !
Hell yeash!
Goddamn Primus is fucking awesome
I was there....Fucking Incredible!!!!!
@SalandFindles It's a brand of guitar, Paul Reed Smith, PRS for short
Guitarist looks like Jay from Jay and silent bob.... lol
@mrpiano29 its a carl thompson bass "the rainbow bass"... its kind of notorious
cant belive this dude's voice sounds kind of country, yet he's from richmond xDD
I wish i can see Primus live I even missed Buckethead =[
SPIKY SPIKY
HEY HEY HEYYY
the most ingenious bass lick ever 0:03
@TheTrebooor
(lol) Same love, I was four. Who knew that MTV at one time
ACTUALLY PLAYED MUSIC!!? O.o
Primus is the basedgod of the 90's
Did anyone else notice the fight in the audience between 0.56-0.59? I think it was a fight...
I actually believe I was in Daytona when this happened. Probably lying on the beach somewhere nearby...too bad I was only one year old -_-
You never get crowds like this ever now
Maybe heavy black nu metal crowds
But fuck nothing is going to top the 90s
Wish I could of been 20 somin in the 90s
@KreatorOfDeath1985 ahah i haven't notice that , thanks !
I want the Pringles blimp...
This groove was clearly inspired by King Crimson's "Elephant Talk".
Oh, hell yeah it was.
+Adriən Evangelista well every bass player who isn't at least a bit inspired by mr tony levin is a bit weird in my opinion (not that les isn't weird though :D :D )
Herb is the shit!
@mrpiano29 someone knew...it's a carl thompson rainbow......................definitely special...hand made basses....alll handmade basses are very expensive....but look way cool.....i always love ritter..........they have awesome instruments, i got a good artist to paint one for me... for the price...
funkier than the album version
They were all on LSD thats rad
I don't know names of any band members other than Les Claypool, but I don't think people give the guitarist on Seas of Cheese enough credit. The guitar on that album is just as good as the bass imo.
Bro, I wasn't even born...
The Pringle’s Zeppelin is the proof that was around 90s
The guitarist looks different every fucking time i see him in different videos. I don’t have a clear picture of him
Lol at people who think they are Primus fans but don't even think Primus suck
They were on acid during this whole performance les has said.
Yeah “everything was orange”
Hahaha! "Dawwg will hun"
@TheAmbushHunter yep!
@jareds1007 Its a 6 String more I cant see hope i could help you. Maybe its a Warwick or a Ibanez but I think its a special designed bass.
@HYPERZEPHARIAN
They're touring NOW so you have your chance :D
@GENERICCEREAL67 Johnny Depp would fill it perfectly. I've thought that ever since I saw Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
if he were to die....and a biographical documentary were made....edward norton would play him
@SolkanskiNorc mosh pit who would fight during primus? its too happy of music
You know what else the generations alive today have done for music? Pino Forastiere. No he's not your generation, but if you're going to count Claypool in your generation I get to count Pino in it. And if Pino Forastiere isn't enough for you... There may be no hope for you
@zachjal actually the original THPS
@iFriendChannel Looks like a PRS
@skateboardNsnow44 PROBABLY. wierd song though... i like it!
@ThrobnWood Do not forget about Pork Soda!
lol @ the censoring at 0:29
who knows what ype of guitar larry is playing?
Larry Lalonde here?
@jetjock015
i want 1992 back
Why mute "Goddamn"?
MTV are old geezers
@hellmitt94 hAHAHA, you got me there!
One person doesn't think primus sucks
@GENERICCEREAL67 Starring Les Claypool as himself
