    Thank you for breaking down this fundamental movement in a way for beginner climbers like me to understand. I've been at it once a week for about 3 months now, but I'm basically not using my hips, have no flow and am generally having a very tough time of it. Hoping that learning this technique will make my future climbs more accommodating.

    Could you make an episode about short people/tall people differences in climbing. In my climbing group (we are all beginners) we have a couple of shorter people and a couple of taller people and for the short people obviously problems with farther reaches are usually problematic. For taller people the problems where the holds are all really crimpy and close together so that when using foot holds you end up having a tough time not leaning away from the wall too much. Are these observed differences easily overcome? What can we change about our approaches to become better at those types of problems?

      Hey dude, I second that! Your youtube stuff is really great, thanks for putting the time into it :).
      I know they probably took wayy longer to produce, but your earlier tutorial videos did a fantastic job of showing the right thing vs the wrong thing over and over again, and gain a reasonable understanding in one video. I had to watch this one twice to physically see the difference the hip movement made, and the shot angles chosen didn't fully illustrate just how awesome body position is to smoothing out a person's climbing style.
      The advice in this video is super useful too, I've been sending your videos to my partner, who's just starting to boulder again, and she has found them really instructive.
      Thanks again dude, I hope this comment doesn't come across as too critical, I think your tutorial videos as a whole are very illustrative, even compared to higher end climbing dvds.

    It looks that when they use their hip when reaching with the arm, they’re necessarily accompanying their hip directing with a leg position that is ready to be engaged when their foot lands on the hold. Helps that flow. Cool, can’t wait to try this.

    Are there going to be more episodes, or these 5 are all I need to become perfect climber? :D I remember months ago I was searching youtube and looking for good quality climbing tutorials, since I am self-taught climber and this is my only option to get better, theory-wise. I found yours and told myself how lucky I am. This person seems to know what he is talking about and is able to convey it in an understandable manner. I was happy I found my fountaing of climbing knowledge. Now, after months of no episode 6, I am afraid I will have to go once more into deep waters of youtube to find someone who knows stuff and is not deadly boring. Any tips? I am not going to unsubscribe, I just need some worthy subsitute :D

    Hey, Eric. I've been trying to implement your pointers in these instructionals. I've found that tensing your calves really helps me. I'm unsure whether you've already had this topic scheduled for future videos, but if not, I'd really appreciate it: A video where you discuss the best way to manage all the possible types of holds in an indoor climbing gym ( e.g., slopers are always difficult for me and ones where I there are 2 holds right next to each other and you have to pull them apart).

    Try back stepping. Turn your foot so that you're utilizing the outside edge (where your 3rd/4th toes are) to rotate your hip into the wall. That way, even if you're climbing an overhung wall, you can stand off your foot without barn-dooring (falling away from the wall) and reach further without needing to move dynamically.

    Hey,
    just stumbled across your channel and watched your Climbing Technique Tutorials. They are great and you're able to explain pretty well what you are doing.
    I've got a question though. I assume you are from sweden?! I'm spending my holidays close to Långasjönäs which is in the south-east. You know any place to boulder there? Doesn't matter if it's outdoor or indoor. I sadly couldn't find any kind of information on the internet.

    Thanks for these instructional videos, Eric! Really helpful and a lot of good advice even for an intermediate climber! One thing I do miss in the videos though, is side-by-side comparisons. It'd be a lot easier to understand the point you're making if we could see the "wrong" move and the better move at the same time and see the difference. Though the same thing when watching the gym routine video as well, so though I'd mention it :)

    • @eltonjohnson

      Someone told me that blisters won't occur as frequently once I got off of the problems that were very jug-heavy (which usually constitutes quite a few V0 an V1s, I think). Seems to have worked.

    • @raventhird5146
      @raventhird5146 7 років тому +5

      Blisters come when you sweat, and your hands start rubbing around. They won't occur very often if you use chalk to keep your hands dry, and also try not to wriggle your hands around on the holds. Accurate hand placement is key :)
