- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg eulogizes Justice Antonin Scalia. Among the things she'll miss are "the roses he brought me on my birthday." Full video here: cs.pn/21zQcz6
“I don’t attack people, I attack ideas”. That’s a good lesson we all can take to heart regardless of what political ideology we hold to.
Dont hate the sinner, hate the sin.
Ephesians 6:12, KJV: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

RIP to Justices Ginsburg and Scalia. No matter what side you were on politically, both Justices lived their lives with dignity and grace. Despite their fierce ideological differences they formed a strong friendship and always treated each other with respect. They were the model of how we should get along with those we don't agree with. I hope their lesson does not die with them.
I LOVE THEM BOTH SM
Yes, we should all try to be more respectful of one another even if we disagree. RBG is an inspiration.
That's better. Who better to challenge you, your thinking, views you may not have thought of. I think it was amazing.
🙌
Ali Gaines Absolutely, always challenging you to stretch your mind. I love that.
Scalia and Ginsburg represent something i so desperately wish for in society
respect and peace between two so fundamentally different minds
their values and opinions were different and still their mutual respect formed a beautiful friendship and i believe everybody can learn something from that
for society? no, for the WHOLE world
By the nature of the court this is effectively mandatory.
The thing is they use their heads, not their emotions, to make ends meet. Unfortunately, emotions are a BIG part of politics not just from lobbyists but among Senators and, sometimes and currently, within the White House.
Olecranon Rebellion Proof?
Unfortunately, this claim was just a misrepresentation concocted by Hannity and Sen. Lindsay Graham back in 2005. She merely cited a 1973 legislation that referred to lowering the age of consent to 12. However, she did not do so to condone the content of the legislation itself. Instead, she sought to praise it for its use of gender neutral pronouns. I wish people on the left would stop calling Scalia a sexist homophobe, and I wish people on the right would stop mischaracterizing Ginsburg as a pedophile apologist.
They were both so funny and wise.
Scalia: "I don't attack people, I attack ideas. I know some really good people with really bad ideas."
tell that to democ-rats
I re-watched this because I desperately needed a reminder that it’s possible to disagree without losing affection.
I wish everyone could watch this with an open heart and be inspired by their example.
Dawn very well said.
@@romusa9204 as republicans are making another power grab to perpetuate their own interests?
@Jim Dandy what?
"He was once asked how we could be such good friends when we disagreed about so many things. Scalia replied, 'I attack ideas, not people,'"
Wise words to live by, no matter where you fall on the political spectrum. If these two could be lifelong friends, there's hope for us all. May they both rest well.
I attack ideas not people and some good people have very bad ideas- Scalia
@@westg463 Politically, I'm more on Ginsburg's side, but Scalia was absolutely correct with that quote. The fact that he and Ruth could disagree while maintaining a professional respect for each other and personal friendship is a ray of sunshine in these dark times. I hope they're continuing their friendship, wherever they are now.
Probably the best thing about those two. We need more of that in this country.
Yes ! Those are wise words to live by.
@@Bloodylaser That won't happen when you're called a racist for participating in the democratic process
Attack ideas, not people
I attack the person who had the idea that we should lower the age of consent to 12!
Right. No ad hominem attacks.
DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD
@@abbatrouble That claim's fake. It was a misrepresentation by Sean Hannity and Senator Lindsay Graham, back, in 2005. Gisbyrg merely cited a 1973 legislation that referred to lowering the age of consent to 12. She was not condoning the content of the legislation itself. That would have to depend on the person
They should make a movie about their relationship...like Netflix's "Two Popes."
Neither Right nor Left: The Special Friendship of Ruth and Antonin
The Two Justices.
Lol, this is actually very common behavior in the senate or the house, most politicians live to be liked by other people, including people from the other side, it's the masses that tear up their panties over politicians
Honestly I’d binge watch it in a jiffy. There is an opera about them already.
RIP to two great legal minds who epitomized civility and showed us how we ought to treat those with whom we disagree.
Well said.
Exactly!
Civility is a political fiction.
You can tell Ruth absolutely loved Antonin. They were truly great friends and an example of what we need to get back to being. It’s okay to love people and disagree with them on ideas.
Well said. My mom who is very liberal said that even if they were very of polar opposites, it always necessary to try to compromise.
No matter your political ideology, both of these people are brilliant thinkers and America is greater because of them. RIP Scalia.
Guess who assasinated him...
WestCoastR1der
Obama needed it too! Only judge who retired during his terms was one liberal appointee in ‘09...the conservative judges must’ve had their buttholes puckered for eight years...they knew they couldn’t retire and give Obama that chance...Trump will get even more nominees before his two terms are up. Scalia was most definitely murdered.
Having been an attorney for 30 years, I can assure you that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is not a brilliant legal thinker; she is a political activist dressed in a robe.
(When she was appointed as an appellate judge, she was a general counsel {high-ranking lawyer} for, and a member of the Board of Directors of, the ACLU.)
RM Hutchins 👌!!
@@rmhutchins7 I like how you yourself say she is a high ranking lawyer but then go on to imply that her concentration in civil liberties negates all her time in a prestigious law school and beating the odds by becoming a successful female lawyer of any ranking
It was touching to see Thomas so solicitous of Ginsburg in escorting her up to the podium and trying to come to her aid by getting up to look for her paper.
Thomas and Ginsburg have always respected each other with kindness and respect despite their theoretical differences on constitutional law. Thomas would defend Ginsburg greatly against all who make derogatory remarks against Ginsburg, as she would defend Thomas for the same.
And I believe he laughed louder than anyone else at her jokes. It is obvious that they have a good relationship. From the man who "never speaks, remains stone at the bench" it was so nice to see him laughing so heartily.
You can hear Justice Thomas laughing hysterically in the background throughout basically the whole thing lol
I can assure he is not laughing at her but with her and her reflections on her beloved friend
Lori Castady As if I was implying that, Lori. Get a clue.
RIP Justice Ginsberg and Scalia you were examples of how politicians should debate each other I hope republicans and democrats and start following these great judges leads.
Two titans of thought, logic, opinion, backbone, wit - and friendship. No matter, whether you agree with them or not - you have to respect them for whom they are and were. They teach us all to see the human being we are, not so much the (sometimes lunatic) opinion we hold.
Well said
So, so well said.
It's great to hear Clarence Thomas laugh like that. He's known as the quiet one on the Court.
She reminds me of my 11th grad civics teacher, she stood for almost everything that I was against we agreed with very few things but she was my favorite teacher. But the quote of attack ideas not people is so great I may hate 99 percent of her view points but I can't hate her as a person
@Lynda Vance way to accept an olive branch.
I respect what you have to say.
This kind of relationship between a conservative and a liberal is what we hope for but often lack. Nowadays the picture of bi partisan relationships usually include some form of backstabbing or corruption.
The hateful responses are appalling, disrespectful, and precisely why our country is doomed. The Founding Fathers never meant for ignorance and illiteracy to rule.
founding fathers never meant for abortions either...... they would be sick to see what people like ginsburg supported... and anyone who supports abortion is an abomination and possess a reprobate mind..
For Ginsburg to eulogize Scalia, a polar opposite, is why I respect her. Like Scalia, I disagree with her terrible politics, but I respect her just as I have to respect my liberal friends who I interact with daily.
@@trkdigital5685 I don't engage in discussions with people like you - i.e., those for whom abortion is the most pressing issue in the unverse. I wish you well.
@@soniacallesmesa7147 u possess a reprobate mind.....
@@trkdigital5685 Liberation of one's body is important in respect to the Founding Fathers. The coming of life does not belong to the State. Roe VS. Wade. Women's Liberation and the liberation for all. Deal with it.
Who’s here after she died? My level of frustration is high on the charts.
Me too. Difficult times.
@@gstrummer Why? Another great woman will replace her.
dvchel I wouldn’t call Amy Comey a “woman’s woman” for the record.
Ruth one said that she was never going to give up. I realized that she never did until 2 days ago
Quit bickering about this. She chose not to resign during Obama's two term presidency even after a diagnosis of cancer. Say what you will, this could have been avoided though. Let us wait and see what happens, and be civil if we disagree just as Scalia and Ginsburg.
It breaks my heart that most people don’t know their relationship outside the Court. When she died the people mourning her never knew this and even denied the horrible names and things said about Scalia when he died. God bless RBG and Scalia in the afterlife with all.
They really did love each other so beautiful to see such a wonderful friendship
They both teach us a great lesson, there is no reason for divisiveness when we can compromised or hear one an another. i want this for out country that why im voting this coming election i hope you’ll do the same.
Exactly!
Atleast they back together now RIP
I can tell she was really great friends with him, so sad.
Why does it take the death of someone to take the step to inquire who they were?
In these past few days of reading up, watching videos about Ginsburg.. Her friendship with Scalia, I am filled with respect towards her, and awe, and sadness at her passing. I hope, that even though I wasn't interested then, I will now take what Ive read and seen to heart and keep it there.
Mrs Ginsburg was a brilliant mind, a living legend. During her long life, she's been through some hard stuff, but she never played anything down, she never wavered, she told the truth. She stood for human rights. The rights of all the American people. Regardless of who they are. In one word: She stood for justice. I guess that's what our president had in mind when he said truthfully:«She was an amazing woman, whether you agree or not.»ua-cam.com/video/24QKYig1prU/v-deo.html
You should call her Justice
No matter what your political leanings, how can anyone of us not simply fall in love with the late great Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In addition, how great the legacy and lessons from both Scalia and Ginsburg for us all that, although they could antagonize one another with legal opinions, they maintained a mutual admiration, respect, and love for one another that gave great comfort to us as citizens that we were in the very best of "hands" in regards to Supreme Court Final Rulings. RIP Justice Ginsburg and Justice Scalia.
@MrChiliburger No
May they both rest in peace, regardless of political leanings these two were incredible Americans 🙏🏼🇺🇸
@Lynda Vance why not ?
@@christopherhendrix4181 and to others like myself, she was a hero, an icon even. Look at her accomplishments, and make that Interpretation for yourself.
@@Akira-ss6cm thanks !! Trust me I already have my interpretation I was just curious as to what made the person above so against RBG.
@Lynda Vance that's subjective. If you paid any attention to precedent then you yourself would know about the vagueness doctrine and how the courts position had to shift to understand new barriers and statutes within law.
@Lynda Vance and I'm afraid you have not done yours. I won't continue this any longer with someone bearing so much hate and malice in their heart.
Surprised by just how rude some people are in the comments
Well most people are common idiots lol
Fuck you - I'm never rude.
I’ve seen so many racist and cruel comments in a lot of the videos of Justice Ginsburg. Along with some very violent remarks like “put a pick in her”. Truly saddening.
I am not surprised.
Their friendship should be a model for everyone else. Different ideas but still a mutual respect.
I wish very dearly that the US could go back to being at least somewhat bipartisan again. Where Republicans and Democrats could work together on making lives better, fairer and more equal. There's too many extreme opinions at the moment, too much relying on the government and the courts. The death of Scalia and now the death of Ginsburg has opened up a horrible political battle in the country. And to think, RBG was sworn in with almost a unanimous vote in the Senate...
She was such a gem ❣️ I already miss her 💔
Justices Ginsburg and Scalia were living proof that friends need not have the same political views. We need more people like them, period.
Politics at its best we should learn from this in the words of Abraham Lincoln " We should be too big to take offense and too nobel to give it".
There are decent men and there are great men. Scalia was a GREAT man.
I didn't agree with his political views but his quips from the bench were exceedingly funny. He had a very quick, sharp wit.
Their friendship was so sweet..Two people so different politically, yet so respectful of each other. People these days could take a lesson from Scalia & Ginsburg..
Scalia and RBG, fought about philosophy. No wonder she loved Scalia!
Go hard on institutions. Go soft on people.
Moving.
So sorry i never heard or watched Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg.. my view of her changed 1000%.. what a Justice.. Youll be on Heaven supreme court
What a difference 4 years later has shown in the political discourse! Thank you Justice Ginsburg for your patriotic service to America! America is greater due to you & Justices who still LOVE IT!

I can’t believe I’m just now coming across this. Ginsburg did a wonderful job illustrating how to love one another despite our differences. In the end if we want to survive as a nation we need to learn how to get along!
I loved how close they were being sooooo different in political views

The best thing that Bill Clinton ever did as president Nominating Ruth Bader Ginsburg as associate judge Supreme Court..🥳
A true strong woman❤️❤️❤️
Was that Justice Clarence Thomas who walked her to the stage?
James Wallace Yes
This is what politics should be. Different political views but it doesn't obstruct a friendship. I wish more politicians could be like these 2 amazing people and also people like McCain. Shared different views but still had friendships with other politicians. Rest in Peace
What a beautiful person!
And 4 years later, people would be giving her eulogy...
This is why we need to respect RBG and her wishes! These were such kinder times she was speaking of. Let’s get back to those times please! For both these legends please.
Rest in peace RBG

I hope people remember she was the notorious RBG not just RBG
This is just a snapshot of the banter and comedy between these two. How could anyone keep a straight face in the presence of these two is beyond me.
Proof positive that the court is honest, and willing follow true good advice when it is relevant!

They were the best of friends
As an Indian, I am truly jealous of the quality of judges the US Supreme Court has.

Love it. Lines are meant to be crossed. Cross then with respect and care in your heart.
That was an outstanding eulogy!
While I never, If ever agreed with RBG on her decisions. I loved how she and Scalia were the perfect examples of how to act concerning differing views . They attacked the ideas and not each other, a lesson current politicians could use in today’s climate.
Friendship doesn't need 'the deal of the century', on the contrarary so. Tough times for everyone 💧.
Ironically, Amy Coney Barrett is filling Justice Ginsburg’s seat. Justice Scalia and justice Ginsburg were the best Of friends. Justice Scalia was Barrett’s mentor. There are too many parallels to ignore. I think Barrett would be a great addition to the Court!
I guess that might explain why Barrett has some respect to RBG
Thank you for not retiring. Age discrimination is evil.

She will be missed . Rest In Peace RBG
October 1st 2020: Both Scalia and Ginsburg have died... and a clerk to the former stands to become the next SCOTUS justice. The political landscape is extremely polarized, with at least half the country wondering/hoping that whomever gets appointed, upholds the constitution above all else...
Thank You Lord For Grace Matthew 18:19 For Justice For USA
Jesus Christ, she and Scalia got along while disagreeing fundamentally on their judicial philosophies. Can't people who's biggest issue is that the they show up one day every 2-4 years and just vote for different people get along too? Everything is so fucking personal.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a real Patriot.
I had read papers that stated to the fact that both Scalia and Ginsburg had a pretty good relationship, although they could not be any further apart on their rulings as they were, and yes, it did show thru in living color !!!! I must say that I myself have a respect for RBG, and I don't like it much when someone makes fun of her, regardless of who she is, and thru an appointment from one of the worst presidents ever to sit in the oval office, she filled her seat, and voted in the traditional way. I remember her as being one fiery orator, She could take a statute of law that was handed from Congress, and she would argue with a cigar store wooden Indian, till the Indian would weep, and give into what she was saying. I want to say one more thing here about Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Respect. Ruth gave respect, and she DEMANDED RESPECT from whom ever was going to address her. Any Associate Justice of the Supreme Court should expect no less. Tho they are Mortal Men and Women , their sharp mind, and keen wit brought out the best on both sides. She was as serious as a bicycle wreck when she was talking. After all, Ruth was living the court as a Liberal. I can honestly say that I do NOT agree with one .... nope not even one ruling that she handed down the justice that she had interpreted to be what was best in this situation, even though, I may think its totally wrong, Her time on the SCOTUS just actually shows what one person can do, and she loves to be an assistant Justice. As that, I salute her, but I also would love for her to step down, and not pass away as a justice. but as is heard. She intends to stay there till death finds her, or another LIBTARD
