@The New York Times - Thank you for preparing this tribute to the life of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. While her family, friends and colleagues will miss her the most, this country and much of the world will feel the loss of this exceptional, inspiring person. 🛐
That's a lot of cancer for one person's life. I can't imagine losing your mother while young, and then starting a life, going to school, and becoming a mother and then finding out your young husband has cancer as well.
@Max Flynn You know of millions of children separated from their families? Millions of children in the foster system? Millions of homeless children? Millions of children in warzones? Focus on the ones that are actually already formed and alive, not potential life-forms.
@Soulnorthernmotown Soul is my life i wouldn't say 'easily', there's many reasons why it can be difficult to get birth control. Something like having clinics and doctors be far away, having them question you to the point where they won't prescribe it, if you're young, they could tell your parents (some who would be abusive). Also, to help with the 'easily', there should be free healthcare for (women's) birth control. Because if it's half and half like you say, some of those people probably aren't using birth control because it can get pretty expensive depending on where you are.
Rest in peace to this extremely strong, intelligent, and beautiful woman. She did so much for the US. We needed her, and now, unfortunately, she is gone, and she will be missed.
@Max Flynn "Plenty of ways to avoid being pregnant." Mistakes happen very often. The vast majority aren't aborting 'just cause'. And those statistics are from your precious Fox News. Stop trying to control women. I will not be responding anymore.

Most news channels make things like this for famous people before they died its nothing special they are called premature obituaries, they have been going on centuries. Fun Fact: Alfred Nobel's obituary was leaked after some new organizations had incorrectly heard that he had died when it was really his brother. After reading the obituaries and seeing how horrible of a person he would of been remembered as (because he created dynamite and other various tools of war) he created the Nobel peace prize.
It will be a dictatorship. You will have an election the normal way without mass mail in ballots, you will have decent tax returns, you will have a good job if you're looking for one and college will not be free. It's gonna be a rough 4 years but you will get through it.
A "dictatorship" is perfectly fine if the dictator rules with benignity and upholds the constitutional rights. I would rather live under that system than, say, an Obama or Clinton or Kamala Harris presidency. That would be an absolute nightmare!

Our country is in desperate need of healing. I fear this vacancy is going to dramatically intensify the division in our nation. I hope and pray Democrats and Republicans will somehow be able to reconcile their differences after all of this.
The only way differences are reconciled is, if the Republicans give Democrats what they want, ie, the last four years, because they lost. Now, when Pres. Trumps wins again, they have already said, there will be, and will do more and worse!

samuel powell - As stated, I wasn’t a fan of most her politics but do respect her for what she accomplished with her life and under the circumstances at that. Which were substantially against her as history can attest, yet she somehow made it to the very top echelons of her field where so very few do. And even fewer woman at that. Add to that fact that as a woman her trajectory showed GREAT support for the causes of men, also leaves much to respect her for. In the end she was a human being who lived an extraordinary life, both experiencing and accomplishing more than most could only imagine or hope for, and leaving a legacy that only very few could. Her rulings were not always the best but that can also be said about the rest of the court as such views by their critics are just that, those of the beholder. And with each justice having their share of both fans & loathers alike. They have their opinions of each, as do both you and I, and the next guy. Neither will tip the scales of her legacy as being more important & substantial than the other. She was a great woman.

A lovely tribute. I have written one also: Elegy for RBG An hour after you died, your face was already an icon with your trademark jabots surrounding your head like haloes: the dissenting collar, warning us when we were sliding into a Banana Republic; or the sunny yellow, crocheted by your clerks, for announcing majority opinions; or the spiky feathers for the portrait with Kavanaugh, when they called you a warrior princess. But your favorite, and mine, was the white collar from Cape Town. You wore it for Obama’s State of the Union addresses, rejoicing to think we were leaving apartheid behind. Now Etsy calls it Victorian lace and pearls. It was only a simple white crochet, but in memory I see a constellation for us to navigate in the dark. A spray of stars enough for every little girl to choose her own to wish on.
I wrote this yesterday, but: Today the United States of America lost the Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Do not let her advocacy and what she fought for die. Vote, speak to your representatives, be a catalyst for change. Don’t let her die in vain. What she and so many have fought for will not die today, but will be a flame that continues to lighten our darkest days.

Ginsburg’s point is that our Supreme Court would be perfectly competent with all women justices because women are just as capable - just as equal - as men. All American presidents have been men and most CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies are men. Ginsburg is saying that more women are able to be in high positions of power, such as the Court. Goodbye Ruth . You will be missed. Hope USA survives and doesn’t become a Dictatorship for those of us who are still here
It will be a dictatorship.

Elegy for RBG
An hour after you died,
your face was already an icon
with your trademark jabots
surrounding your head like haloes:
the dissenting collar, warning us
when we were sliding into a Banana Republic;
or the sunny yellow, crocheted by your clerks,
for announcing majority opinions;
or the spiky feathers for the portrait with Kavanaugh,
when they called you a warrior princess.
But your favorite, and mine,
was the white collar from Cape Town.
You wore it for Obama’s State of the Union addresses,
rejoicing to think we were leaving apartheid behind.
Now Etsy calls it Victorian lace and pearls.
It was only a simple white crochet,
but in memory I see a constellation
for us to navigate in the dark. A spray of stars
enough for every little girl
to choose her own
to wish on.
