I'd guess that the answer is *not too many*. If they think that that's a good way for us to conduct ourselves, why would they bother sitting through a piece of civil discourse like this? This isn't reinforcing to that kind of behavior.

I like how there civil with each other and were good friends I hate both political parties because it leads to division and partisanship like we have now. I just hope we can reach a day where we can be like these two disagree obviously but do it civilly and still be good friends with our ideological opponents.
This was great. I learned a lot. I've studied some of Justice Scalia's views on originalism and I agree with most of that perspective. I think the States and Congress need to upgrade or rather update the language of the Constitution to fit the current times. His perspective on the 4th amendment and wiretapping I didn't want to agree with but when it comes to the law, the amendment does not include phone conversations and other electronic devices that belong to people. I believe reviews of certain amendments may be needed to protect the rights of Americans from government and business institutions in the ever-evolving world Americans live in. Thank you two for your perspectives and service to our country and rest in heaven.
I hope that this interview can serve as an example of how it is possible to have an intelligent, constructive conversation between bright minds of opposing political viewpoints. I am a Democrat, but it does not prevent me from believing that it is only through this kind of narrative that the United States can coalesce once again and become the great Nation it once was. My condolences to Judge Scalia's family. A Clinton hopeful.
+lamarchesa2012 I agree 100%. I'm a Republican and I can honestly say many of my friends and acquaintances are Democrats and I always love the debates we get into.
This is what intelligent, civil discourse sounds like. "Papers" refers to private communication, and in the modern era, phone calls are private communication. In the case of the T.S.A., they definitely violate our Fourth Amendment rights.
The Constitution Judge Ginsberg has in her hand was given out at libraries in 1987. In addition a book "The Power to Lead" by James MacGregor Burns with the following quote: “Let us face reality: The framers [of the Constitution] have simply been too shrewd for us. They have outwitted us. They designed separate institutions that cannot be unified by mechanical linkages, frail bridges, tinkering. If we are to turn the founders upside down --- to put together what they put asunder --- we must confront the constitutional structure they erected. - James MacGregor Burns, pg 160 of "Reforming American Government" Edited by Donald L. Robinson. Who are the ‘US’ and who are the ‘WE’ in the above quote? That is the question!

All the Senators were asking if she had any life experience with guns, and she didn't being from NYC. @@JoefromNJ1 What he is saying is.... this is not for the court to resolve, it is for the local government, and their procedings. He does not want to go meddle in things that are not the responsibility of the court.

I love the way she says: " Different styles, perhaps people seeing me as dull and boring, you have a more a jazzy style" How beautiful said and delivered.
Return to principles with civility? Laws of Nature, Laws of Nature's God (Bible), equality at creation with unalienable Rights and the consent of the governed? Aren't these are our unamendable first laws (unlike the Constitution which is amendable) around which civility must revolve?
I don't know why Scalia while recognising that freedom of the press is not about the media but rather about the printed word wouldn't also recognise that flag burning is not speech because if speech meant any expressive action then the line about the freedom of the press would be redundant
Since he was an originalist, many of Scalia's interpretations can be tracked using a series of dictionaries. No dictionary will provide the same exact definitions for one word. Therefore, if you look up "Freedom" in Merriam-Webster you receive one definition, then another from American Heritage, then another from Oxford English Dictionary, then the next goal is to trace what you find to be the earliest definition of Freedom, in accordance to the year that should be in parentheses next to the definition. This is but one way to see how an originalist-constitutionalist sees words that are within historically notable documents.
Proof you can have differences of opinion and hold respect for each other. We American’s need to remember this. You can view things differently, and still be a good person.
Rest in peace Justices Ginsburg and Scalia.

How can you not love these two... and the example set! May Gxd give you both happy and rewarding rest!
She calls him Nino.....heartwarming!
What a fantastic conversation.
The wisdom in this video is phenomenal!
Makes me happy to watch. Model for ideological/political discourse
Beautiful.!!! Just Beautiful 'America' is personified in these 2 wonderful people.
Scalia is the man. Wish he couldve stayed on the court forever
I could have listened to them all night. Their friendship should teach us there can be common ground and we can disagree without disavowing each other.
Its a beautiful thing to see 2 old fashioned people with very different views truly put intellect and reasoning in the opinion not what we see now
I'm a 🇺🇬 ugandan I'm so jealous that democracies have such profound discussions . This is awesome , these two are irreplaceable. May they continue resting in peace .
Came here after recent news and to watch these justices come together despite their differences
It's so sad that Scalia has passed and Ginsburg is in her twilight years because this country needs their friendship and public show of respect for each others opposing views more than ever.
Both are such inspirational figures. I truly enjoy their conversation and wish that the US will once again have such intelligent and thoughtful justices serving. The independence of the supreme court is crucial to democracy, unfortunately the last 5 years have threathen this independence.
Scalia was so awesome! He probably was the smartest judge ever to serve on SCOTUS!
I wonder how many of the comments praising their civility have come from someone who has called someone a cuck, nazi, or libtard in the past 10 days?
😂😂😂😂
99%, don't forget people calling each other "Biden China lovers" or "Russian Trolls".
or a racists or a homophobe or a xenophobe or a misogynist....Dont' forget the empty labels used by libtards hahahaha
@@cesarfelixsanchez7597 He included "nazi" in his list, so I think it was bipartisan. Let's be nice 🙂
I'd guess that the answer is *not too many*. If they think that that's a good way for us to conduct ourselves, why would they bother sitting through a piece of civil discourse like this? This isn't reinforcing to that kind of behavior.
RIP Justices Scalia and Ginsburg. You both were legends of the legal world.
I love this, such a great example of humanity.
I really believe they are genuine sincere both agree on many things!!!!!! really appreciate it!!! greetings from Brussels Belgium
These two are admired so much & rightfully so..Complete opposites..Male/Female..Catholic/Jewish..Conservative Republican/Liberal Democrat..Yet they were so respectful of one another & Such close friends..We need more of this nowadays!! Lessons to be learned.Rest in Peace to both of these Classy Intelligent Legends!!
@Bruce Wade That's what I mean..100%..I just don't feel like being trolled!!
I could listen to old interviews with Justices Ginsburg and Scalia all day. They are both brilliant legal minds with different thought processes and teach us all, in very respectful way, how to engage in thoughtful discussions.
Rest in peace to both these American legal titans. I wish our aspiring members of the executive branch had the capacity to have such constructive debate.
These exchanges are wonderful.
Such humility and deference from both of these Justices - It's a good day to be an American
I respect the court so much regardless of ideology. Both great intellectuals
God bless her! from a conservative.
Thank you so much, it's really wonderful conversation
I love seeing Scalia with such a humor. lol
It’s brilliant to hear Scalias opinion about a free press. He was a great advocate. Trump should listen and learn.
As should you. Trump isn't anti-free press.
I’m revisiting this presentation after long ago it seems, in October 2024, why am I already 😢? In the face of change like our unprecedented digressions of over 4 years but we now find we’re in plan long ago…how I miss their voices of reason.
I didn’t cry the first time…
This is within the heart of the matter we face today.
The rest go to emergency restoration!
Scalia is an absolute titan of law his majority opinions are unyielding and his dissents are epic: check out Maryland v. King dissent-a rare actual reading of his dissent before the court
Thanks for the comment. An interesting case, and some surprises on who was for & against.
2 of the biggest judicial luminaries of our time. You made the US a little more perfect.
I like how there civil with each other and were good friends I hate both political parties because it leads to division and partisanship like we have now. I just hope we can reach a day where we can be like these two disagree obviously but do it civilly and still be good friends with our ideological opponents.
Believe it or not,we did at one time, I am going back to the 60s when JFK was president. The kind of respect really did exist.
@@paulcoy5201 well he was shot so he wasn't respected by everybody lol. But I love JFK he was a great president in my opinion
I love when he says, "I do not read The Post."
Love these discussions!
Just wondering how this worked out for the two of you?
Still have friends with opposing political opinions?
So admirable, both very wonderful and highly missed. I love their commitment to justice!.
This is what intelligent, civil discourse sounds like.
"Papers" refers to private communication, and in the modern era, phone calls are private communication. In the case of the T.S.A., they definitely violate our Fourth Amendment rights.
Watched it today! What a wonderful way to agree and disagree without hurting anyone!
Two brilliantly opposing brilliant minds.
These two are fantastic. The country was blessed to have them as long as we did.
May his Soul Rest in Peace! Antonin Scaclia!
Thanks for putting it here, great conversation !
The Constitution Judge Ginsberg has in her hand was given out at libraries in 1987. In addition a book "The Power to Lead" by James MacGregor Burns with the following quote:
“Let us face reality: The framers [of the Constitution] have simply been too shrewd for us.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg arriving in heaven, after an incredible life and career, is greeted by her old friend and colleague, Antonin Scalia. Scalia says "hello Ruth, nice to see you again. Will we be seeing you at New Year's Eve again?"
Thank you for caring and sharing...
Wow, I had absolutely no interest in law and don’t even live in United States.. Watched some senate confirmation of judge ACB and look where I ended up.
Two beautiful human beings, both sharp as a whistle . Great chemistry between each other... thought me a thing or two about how to disagree with colleagues, without losing my mind. Much adorable.Ruth has a wicked sense of humour
I love these two, especially Scalia’s great sense oh humour 💕
Scalia talked Ginsburg into a deer hunting trip, and yes ... she got her deer.
How funny is that one?
Ginsburg? I know he convinced Kagan to go along on a hunt.
@@ddylla85 I think Kagan told a Senator, if she were put on the court, she would ask Scalia to take her hunting. All the Senators were asking if she had any life experience with guns, and she didn't being from NYC. Initially, she asked the Senator to take her, but she saw that she had overstepped and said she'd ask Scalia 🙂
Also, apparently, Scalia told the Obama administration to send someone at least smart if not of his philosophy. He then added, "Let me put a finer point on it: send Elana Kagan." They sent Sotomayor first, but they did what he said second. 🙂
@@patricemarie2960 apparently, she was nervous or something about bigger game, but Kagan did eventually go elk hunting with Scalia.
@@ascensionblade Never knew a boss, in my NYC life who hunted for elk! ..... But? ..... Who knows? More power to them ..... if they shared, and enjoyed the sport!
What a wonderful friendship. Gods willing it's continuing wherever these two are now.
Politically, I'm more on Ginsburg's side, but Scalia seemed like a fascinating, intelligent person as well. Also, what a lovely, calming voice he had. He could've read the "Nutrition Facts" labels on food packaging and they would've been soothing and relaxing to listen to.
Love eaves dropping on beautiful minds.May enable me to eliminate some degree of my ignorance for at least today day.
Does scalia believe the supreme court should even exist? it seems like every one of his opinions is "this court has no authority to rule on this issue"
@@JoefromNJ1 What he is saying is.... this is not for the court to resolve, it is for the local government, and their procedings. He does not want to go meddle in things that are not the responsibility of the court.
Very beautiful exchange of ideas. Conservative and liberal principles.
I'm not American but Scalia was amazing.
Scalia's argument was very powerful 👍
What a lovely person, brilliant mind Ruth Bader Ginsberg was. May her soul rest in peace.
This is really interesting to listen to.. Powerful arguments calmly expressed.
Two extraordinary human beings. Let’s be open to different points of view.
I love how Justice Ginsberg started to, and throughout the rest of the interview, refer to Justice Scalia as "Nino" like he was her little brother when asked to describe their first meeting.
I hope we all have an eye on the ball now
We need to return to this civility: are you listening Congress?
I love the way she says: " Different styles, perhaps people seeing me as dull and boring, you have a more a jazzy style" How beautiful said and delivered.
Return to principles with civility? Laws of Nature, Laws of Nature's God (Bible), equality at creation with unalienable Rights and the consent of the governed?
Aren't these are our unamendable first laws (unlike the Constitution which is amendable) around which civility must revolve?
God Bless Them Both,wonderful show!!
I don't know why Scalia while recognising that freedom of the press is not about the media but rather about the printed word wouldn't also recognise that flag burning is not speech because if speech meant any expressive action then the line about the freedom of the press would be redundant
They’re so analytical… you can see them both take intentional pauses before answering questions… what a concept!
