I have a 99 Blazer, and I've had this problem since the beginning. My AC flashes and goes out whenever it is hot and humid, especially after it rains. Right when I need the air conditioner the most, it stops working. Usually it will go on in a few hours after the rain stops, but once it stayed out for 4 very hot and humid days. Chevy dealer near me is clueless. I don't know why anyone would downvote this video. It is a perfect place to discuss the problem. I will definitely replace the ambient temp sensor and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice.
I just, had the same problem and it was because my Freon was low in the truck. I went to the parts store bought a can and recharged the system and I worked fine. Before you buy the ambient temp sensor, please check your Freon level.
I changed the ambient temp sensor and low pressure switch sensor as well.... Still having the same problem. I'm in TX hot as hell and it has freon. 2009 denali yukon.
Thanks I bought a 2008 Impala 3.5 and have to order the manual. It was over 100 degrees in Oklahoma and this happened. I thought for sure it was low on Freon although I am having my system flushed and recharged first chance I get. So thank you because it does come back on after a bit. As this makes sense
Mario Patino I realize a lot of people are upset with this very common issue and I bet there will be recalls on newer vehicles. I was only trying to share information I found regarding this issue, sorry this didn't help you, not every vehicle will be the exact same, but with newer vehicles the working temperatures In which the compressor will actually function are very similar. this specific vehicles manual happen to specify when the compressor will go into lockout mode. You can try and clean your ambient temperature sensor. Also there are some videos out there to show you how to override this problem but it will eventually damage your compressor.
Mario Patino would you be so kind as to share your findings at the dealer, the dealer here in Washington told us that was how the system is suppose to function.
Fixed this issue on of them at our dealership, 1 needed a ambient air temp other needed a recharge and valve on the high side port. Most of the time if its blinking it's on auto climate control and the person has the fan on high..... hook up obd2 live data scanner read ambient air tempture out side if it's wrong then current outside temp then replace it, if it matches then have a vac recharge service done
By the way, the third knob on the right has a push button select feature. It isn't defrost for the windows. It is for the mirrors. There are no heating elements on any of the windows.
Thank you very much. Fixed my problem. I’m Driving our work truck ac not working need to open all windows and now its all dusty inside the truck but thanks to you we can close our windows now and enjoy the AC 👍
It fixed the problem for me too. I tried it with the ac on and it didn't seem to work or indicte that it worked with a blinking or light staying on etc so I tried it with the ac off and it also didn't indicate that anything had changed but once I turned the ac back on, the light on the snowflake stayed on for good and the ac is now working. TY for the tip!
Well I have the same 2011 and mine has done that from day 1 bran new. Go to defrost mode and it changes the reclaim to open. Also the open is normal ac the reclaim is max ac
Interesting. It’s 80 degrees outside and my AC still won’t turn on. Pretty sure it’s broken and a crappy design that should have come with the option to bypass it entirely.
I believe after learning much more on this specific AC system there’s definitely issues that should be covered under warranty. I’ve read some people have actually cleaned and/or replaced their ambient temperature sensor and it has corrected the issues.
Good vid, in the cold all the refrigerant goes to coldest area, if refrigerant is all in ur condensor an not in compressor, on start comp will lockup cause ur refrigerant is ur oil for comp.
I was simply sharing that the manual says this issue is normal for the HVAC system, but after further research and if you look into some of he updates on this post. The fix for this issue has been to clean and/or replace the ambient temperature sensor.
It does it no matter the temp now it’s spring and still does it. I was working great then I stopped driving it for a few weeks cause gas went up in price. Started driving my car
I have a 2009 Silverado that keeps switching from recirculated air back to outside air, and every time I try to turn recirculated back on it just switches right back. It’s usually when it’s really hot out. I keep the vents blowing on feet and face. So it’s not from the defrost button. Just wandering if it’s some type of sensor or if it’s an electrical problem.
I’m actually unsure about this but It could be your resistor overhearing from working too hard. Maybe the resistor is set up to automatically switch settings under certain conditions so that it doesn’t overheat and short the circuit.
thank you for video , i have a 2001 tahoe first time that the ac button flashed 3 times for me, i work about 10 miles from my house as i drove my car i kept trying to have the ac on, when i got to my job and i pulled into parking spot , i sat in my car for a few minutes i pressed the ac button and it stayed lit, im fron ny and the weather has been cool mid 30's last night and it was under 40 during the day
Yep mine has been doing same thing on my 2002 Tahoe. just replaced all the a/c components when the weather was still warm 75 deg. Now when it rains or gets down to 45-50 degs it won't turn on compressor. Just gives you the annoying 3 blinks. Bummer . Should be some way to bypass that???
My 2011 Sierra short cycles the compressor and thus gets no cooling. I had the system evacuated, vacuumed and recharged with 25.6 Ounces of R134 and it does the same thing. I also replaced the low pressure switch to no avail. Any idea what it could be?
Ok so what I getting from this is that my amb sensor might be bad, but idk so what's going on with my truck is the a/c works. But only sometimes. I live in az and its always hot, it gets humid af when it does rain. I'm not sure as to of why it does this but now I have a better understanding sorta, And until I watched this I noticed the 3 blinks on my ac buttons, any idea what i should do,
Did you disconnect the battery before working on the electrical, you may now want to disconnect the battery for a 20min in case there is was a glitch in the electrical.

If you read through the comments this issue can now be corrected by your local dealer. Also I was only sharing my frustration that the owners manual states that this issue was completely normal.
Hey @Jeffrey Hopkins the compressor is turned on for the defroster as well as the air conditioning so the issue is related. The manual indicated these issues are normal under certain circumstances but After many years the dealer actually had a recall and now has a solution when encountering these issues. Hope that helps.
i have a chevy impala 2012 and sometimes my ac flashes for 6 times and cut off, it eventually comes back on but sometimes it does that and its not close to freezing is that the same issue?..... everytime i take it to the shop it dosent do that

What, you explained nothing.
Press and hold AC and cabin recycle air flow buttons at the same time while vehicle running it will reset sensor and correct the temperature

OMG!! IM IN TEXAS I just got in my truck about to finish melting and I tried this and the AC kicked on! Thank you so much definitely a life saver!❤

2009 denali yukon.
Ever figure it out. Running into the same issue and shop keeps saying it’s a bad climate control module.
I found on a 2013 you hold ac button and in cab circulation together it will kick on and bypass itself to AC.😉

this didn't help me at all, I can read the manual but it doesn't tell me why it keeps blinking even though its hot as hell outside

+Mario Patino it is possible to override the compressor but in time the compressor will fail by doing so😫
I'm going to try and switch fuses on it first, then go down to the dealership
Mario Patino would you be so kind as to share your findings at the dealer, the dealer here in Washington told us that was how the system is suppose to function.
I think the reason why is obvious one ,the design from the maker is poor and i guess noone thought about rainy and cold at same time
Ambient air sensor. Also a senior up under the dash. Also make sure you have enough freon your ac will not work causing the 3 blinking light.
Dear GOD! Get that senior out of there !!😆
Fixed this issue on of them at our dealership, 1 needed a ambient air temp other needed a recharge and valve on the high side port. Dude!! You just saved my checking account!! I immediately rolled down the window and ta-da!!!!
This helps so much 🙏 thank you so much
By the way, the third knob on the right has a push button select feature. It isn't defrost for the windows. It is for the mirrors. There are no heating elements on any of the windows.
You couldn't be more wrong. Pushing that activates the REAR WINDOW defrost.
What????? It blinks when it’s broken like the check engine light of the AC!
Hold recirculate and A/C button at the same for 3 seconds, immediate fix. 🤝
Thank you for the great information. Cheers
Thank you so much that fixed my problem 👍
Thank you that fixed my problem on my 2010 suburban

Thank you, brother!! Huge breath of relief over here...
I think mine is because the temperature is too low I will try again when it is warmer.
Well I have the same 2011 and mine has done that from day 1 bran new. Go to defrost mode and it changes the reclaim to open. Also the open is normal ac the reclaim is max ac
thanks for the video I was getting frustrated just I just left my AC off for about 15 minutes turned it back on no problems
@Russian Bot, I would definitely check the VIN on your vehicle for recalls👍
@@TweekerDan1984 I think it was due to having the defrost on heat in the middle of Florida summer.

I just had that problem, it turns out the cooling fans were not coming on. Replace the cooling relays and it will work.
Chevy can catch these hands. Such a stupis design. If i want ac. Then the ac should turn on.

Many people have replaced the ambient air sensor and also another sensor under the dash and that has corrected this issue. The manual is misleading.
Also I found that the cab had excessive moisture in the cab under the carpet, once I repaired the cause for the moisture the AC issue went away.
This literally did nothing to help my situation... Useless!
