James, you're vey welcome. We all have to learn somewhere and a lot of that comes from getting out and experimenting. I wish you the best of luck this season and I'm so happy to hear that you've found some helpful information in my videos.
Jay, the garden hose connection should not be used when starting the motor. That connection should only be used to run fresh water through your motor while the motor is OFF. My goal was to heat up the oil and lube so it could drain faster.
This is kind of a random question. I have the same motor and am trying to replace the internal anodes, but am having trouble locating them. I have the schematics for the motor but they aren't very helpful. Would you happen to know where they are located?
Just a FYI,Yamaha suggest replacing the crush washers on the lower unit drain screws per the manual, and there's a bunch of other stuff to check, but that's your call.
You'll want to remove your engine cover and the amount of oil is usually on a sticker. If not, consult your owners manual. For my F90 it was approximatley 4 quarts.
Thank you. Search Amazon for Ear Muffs outboard. Any of those will work fine. Search Yamalube gear case lube (SAE 90 80W90). Finally, search Yamalube pump assy (quart size). Go to my website, www.FishingWithDavidPyle.com, hover over Videos and select "How-To". Look at my most recent video at the bottom which is even better for changing the oil, lower unit, fuel filter and water fuel separator.
Anyone that watches this for their own f90. Just sell the motor. The water passages in the block will corrode until the cylinders get water leaking into them. The Yamaha, the Mercurys, they both do it "The more you know..."
That may be true but I have had mine for many years and it still runs absolutely perfectly. I have always performed proper recommended maintenance and run fresh water after use.
I was able to do this by myself for the first time thanks to this video. I appreciate the help!
Fantastic, thank you for the comments.
Thanks David! About to do all of this on that same engine, appreciate you showing me how first.
Excellent video! I have the same motor and getting ready to change my oil now. This is extremely helpful. Thank you!!
Bob, I'm so happy to hear that you liked the video. Check out this newer version: ua-cam.com/video/u3qdbjgp1Vk/v-deo.html&feature=emb_title
This was a fantastic video/tutorial. Man you have my dream boat! Have a great 4th of July!
Thank you, Emmanuel. It's a modest boat. I just do my best to keep it in top shape.
As always, thanks for the amazing video. Being "self" (aka UA-cam) taught for fishing, not sure what I'd do without your references.

Great to the point video.
Thanks for the informative video David. I’m curious about why you use the ear muffs when these Yamahas have a garden hose fitting?

@@DavidPyle thank you David. I looked into that after my comment and learned you are correct. Have a great springer season!

Sorry, Micah. I don't know about internal anodes. Good question.
Hi, what is the weight of the engine oil used please
A pretty big "Bladed Phillips" Screwdriver? at 6:21 What is that? a blade or a Phillips?
Good catch. I mis-stated that one for sure. It's a flat blade screw driver. Sorry about that.
Thanks for this video . Need to get this done !
Jonathan, you had a fantastic season. Congrats... go get em' again in 2019.
Great video. Thank you very much. Very informative
Good to keep your motor in tip top shape. Thank you for watching.

Yes, you are correct. That's something that I should have addressed.
I have a 2006 f90 Yamaha on my key west 1720. Where can I get that pump at you were using?
West Marine, Amazon, etc...
Can you provide the part number of that oil change kit you're showing in the video?

Just wondering if you changed the lower unit O-ring plugs For new ones
I just serviced my engine but did not change the O-rings maybe I should have
It's always a good idea to put fresh "washers" and "O-rings" on but if they were in good shape you're probably not going to see an issue.
Lubricant how much ( Litre)

Great. Video thanks!
Thank you, I hope it was helpful.
Good job. Genuinely. Ty
Thank you, I hope it is useful.
Geat video! What was the lower unit oil type, the brand ear muffs and brand pump? Thanks!

Hey David what size/pitch is your stainless prop??
Jacob, it's 13/14 x 17 Stainless. WOT = 5600 or so.
What year is your main 90hp?
It's a 2009.
What stainless prop are you running? How's the hole shot and top speed? Thanks
Scott, it's a 13 1/4 x 17. Hole shot is great and top speed at 5500 RPM is about 33 MPH.
@@DavidPyle Thanks. I was looking at Powertech props. Should help a lot. My stock, aluminum 13×19 does 40 at 6000 rpms
That's impressive. Maybe you should just stick with your aluminum prop.
I'm almost certain that I just watched Tom Cruise change the oil on a 90 Yamaha.
Ok, that's freaking funny. Great comment.

"The more you know..."
Good information to know.
That may be true but I have had mine for many years and it still runs absolutely perfectly. I have always performed proper recommended maintenance and run fresh water after use.
So...what do you recommend?
Any motor does this if you neglect it. Flush with fresh water for 20 mins or until the thermostat opens.
@@Highstranger951 fresh water? Opposed to what? Salt I'm assuming?
Bee safe
It is an ENGINE, not a motor.
Thank you, Dan.
Who cares.
Great informative video. Thank you sir.
You're welcome, Mark.
