hey guys, want to thank you. your videos helped me prepare for my trip to Scotland. I came back with 8 bottles and got to tour glenkinchie, macallan, aberlour, dalmore, and oban. Helpful hint to anyone traveling there from the U.S., take bourbon with. the shop owners can't get much variety and said they would have been willing to trade. they can only get the real common bourbon like jack daniel, white label beam and makers mark.
I just wanted to thank you guys for opening up the world of Whisk(e)y for me. I first saw Daniel on the Modern Rogue and checked out your channel. I have started a monthly whisky night with my friends where we each bring something different to taste. Keep up the good work !!
Legacy is one of my go-to recommendations when people are looking for a cheap whiskey, especially when they're new to whiskey. It's a good, friendly whiskey that's easy to get in to.
super excited to see this review. I have been talking about this one in the tribe for a while now and no one has known what I was talking about. the most common response has been "JP wiser's Legacy? that's really rare." then I have to explain that it's a $20 budget bottle. I have several more expensive whiskeys but I love this one.
Dude i blows my mind that this is under $20 most of the time. I use it as the base in a lot of my blends to give them volume and smooth out ruff edges.
I love American Bourbons and Whiskeys... that being said, one of my favorite whiskeys is from Forty Creek - the Double Barrel Reserve. Can't find it in the US.. I have to drive my butt to Canada to get it. They have some other whiskeys that are fantastic as well.
It never ceases to amaze me that everytime I think I've found something new, you guys have a 2-1/2 year old review of it. The wife brought me home a bottle of this the other day. Like most random bottles she brings home, it was purchased because she liked the bottle. I am generally skeptical of such purchases, her track record isn't all that good, but since she also got me a bottle of AE rye, I'll forgive her. After tasting it and being pleasantly surprised, she asked me to guess the price. Being married over 25 years, I know how to play this game; guess high in all things price related, low on ANYTHING weight related. I guess $50, thinking it would really be somewhere in the $30s and she'd feel good about her whiskey picking prowess. I was shocked to learn that it was $16 at our local grocery store. For that price, I'm tempted to go get a case. It's a nice change of pace from my bourbon centric collection and a great easy drinker for any whiskey novice guests we have over.
Hey guys, I'm coming to the US in July. Going on a three week road trip through California with the gf. Any suggestions for a distillery visit there =)?
I’ve been watching since sometime last year and finally went and tried laphroaig 10 at a bar and absolutely loved it. I’ve been mainly into Canadian (yes we do keep the best stuff for ourselves... we’re sorry 😐) and Irish. Was out tonight with a friend and started with redbreast 12 and moved into laphroaig 10 and can’t go back. It’s marvellous! Went back to the review of Laphroiag Quarter Cask.... such a different time. Rex you actually trying to style your hair and Daniel you look the same. Rex I think you also had less grey in your beard back then... this show has aged you... I blame Daniel. And episodes were less then 10 minutes... what? Thanks guys and Keep your stick on the ice.
Uh I’m Logan James born on March 22nd i watched this segment of the video 5 times wondering if my dad got my birthday wrong. Sadly. I was mistaken, congrats Logan James. May you drink long and prosper
On your guys whiskey biscuits channel you've done some pairing videos, but not a video of whisky to whisky pairings! Perhaps more suitable for this channel? For me, my favourite whisky pairing currently is some Lagavulin 16 followed up by the Glen Moray Elgin Classic. The Lagavulin is one of the most interesting peated whiskys i've had and always very surprising with how smooth its finish and aftertaste is, better yet for my taste it really brings out those sweet and creamy flavours in the Glen Moray. (if you're not totally convinced or feel you've covered this before, remember Rex... this is an excellent mooching opportunity)
Bought a bottle of this last night. It's not bad for the price and is something I'd buy again for sure if I was a bit short on funds. It's not quite as good as Buffalo trace is or another blended Canadian whiskey I like is pendleton. Pendleton is in the same price range as this and has a more mellow flavor and nose to it. Would be a good whiskey for beginners I'd say also.
Wow that was some extreme mooch-a-tude. I was wondering what is break point for a whisky on whether you consider it flavored, for example if one were to put herbs in the sour mash before distilling, would that be considered a flavoring.
What Erik L said. But tattoo or not it's good to see the black vneck back lol I didn't realize just how strange it was not seeing it until it came back.
I was randomly recommended this at my local place, and for $25, it was hard to pass up. Not bad. A little watery for my taste, but I bet if it had a little more mmff to it, it would actually be really good. Would recommend if you like something light and in the background for a budget/different than something you might already have. These are good notes and similar to what I got.
This is the first video of the entire set of everything where Daniel sounds 'drunk.' Slurring his words a bit. Totally understandable. The question should be... how can a person do such a number of whisky reviews and yet never sound tipsy... Good job Daniel! Cheers!
I picked up a bottle of that about 2 weeks ago... really enjoying it. I saw they have the Port finish version in the Vault but not the Rum... If only I could ship it across the border...
Funny how here in canada the jp dissertation is like 65 bucks and at every store. Ha guess ill add one to my 35. 15 year old and last barrels jp bottles.
Hey guys, in some sad news my uncle's best friend's sister's roommate passed away this morning from a shockingly bad case of heartburn. In memory of him could you toast Compass Box Flaming Heart. Hell, you may as well review it while you're at it.
Hey guys, I have a question for you. I recently learned that my mother loves whiskey. She has a condition where her body does not tolerate anything gluten. She can tolerate high corn whiskies and that is it. Are there any that are 100% corn, or as close as possible that she can try? BTW, I have been binge watching and just started the 200's the other day. I find myself watching to see what dad jokes Rex gets caught by. Keep it up! I love the videos!
John Cheek Platte Valley Corn Whiskey is 100% corn ethanol but it’s pretty rough. It comes in an earthenware two-tone brown hillbilly jug. Because whiskies are distilled, only the ethanol vapor should be present in the final product. The gluten is left behind in the still with the rest of the waste. Irish whiskies should be the best/most certain to be gluten free whiskies to try I think because they are triple distilled. You can never be 100% certain that anything is gluten free because there is so much cross contamination that can occur. My nieces have been diagnosed with celiac sprue and I am all too aware of the effort it takes to avoid gluten. Your mom should try a tiny amount of any whiskey she is thinking of tasting later. However, theoretically all whiskies are gluten free because of the distillation process. Your mom could be reacting to the sugars in the whiskey she’s drinking or other organic compounds that’s are extracted by the ethanol from the wood during the barrel aging process. I have a hard time with whiskies that are corn ethanol for some reason. I get nasty headaches so I try to avoid the corn liquors. Good luck! Oh, she might want to try some of the better tequilas out there. Many of these tequilas are similar in age and mellow flavors to Bourbons or brandies.
She has celiac sprue. We actually had this conversation earlier. Granted, theoretically, the gluten should not show up in the distillation, she does have problems when she drinks anything higher in any of the other grains other than corn. She does tend to stick with either wine, tequila, or rum. She does like her bourbon though.
John Cheek As you obviously know, somewhere/some how something is getting into the whiskies to cause problems for your mom. Has she tried sorghum whiskies? Here’s a link to a very interesting article about the gluten in whiskey debate and some suggestions for sorghum whiskies available on the market: www.verywellfit.com/will-whiskey-make-me-sick-if-im-gluten-free-562778 I’m wondering is the E-150 caramel coloring used in some Scotches might not be made from malt sugar in which case there could be a gluten load along for the ride?
Sierra norte is really nice corn liquor from Mexico they make yellow, black, and white. I reccomend the yellow most. Mellow corn is supposed to be very good as well for the price.
Did Chad edit the video so Rex’s bitching about not getting a whiskey poured for him in the first 90 seconds was wrong, or was Rex just wrong - because the comment was made at 84-86 seconds, as whisky was hitting his glass.
Interesting... A "Canadian" whisky that i've never seen in Canada. About J.P. Wiser's Dissertation. It's actually not all that hard to find in Canada and fairly inexpensive. It's about $65 CAD, which is $50 USD.
Daniel adds in more peoples comments of toasting only if that whisky that was donated to the vault. I sense a mooch level within you Daniel (Mooch Voice).

Ryan Chalstrom if you get a chance head to Glengoyne as they are a fantastic distillery. Glad you had an awesome trip

Thanks guys you made my day. I agree that Legacy does not smell that great at all but for under $20 I feel it punches above its weight with taste.
Mooch and Somm - I'm going to Scotland in August. What 3 whiskies do you recommend I bring back with me?
Those shelves look absolutely delicious.
That is some next level mooching there. that's nearly into con artist territory

Yeah, this is one I almost always recommend when someone is looking for an under $20 bottle. It's great for what it is.

Sounded like you were slurring your words there saying vault. What did you guys do, decide to film two weeks worth of episodes?
Hey guys, I'm coming to the US in July. Going on a three week road trip through California with the gf. Any suggestions for a distillery visit there =)?
R M Sonoma County as I hear they are in California. But might need to give them a call

Watched this at work and had to try really hard not to laugh out loud at a few points during that legendary mooch tale XD
I know that in my area a store has to put a case of legacy on the shelf to get a EHT 4 grain from the distros......
Wow that was some extreme mooch-a-tude. I was wondering what is break point for a whisky on whether you consider it flavored, for example if one were to put herbs in the sour mash before distilling, would that be considered a flavoring.
When we do we see Daniel’s new tattoo?
soon :-)
I think it’s a dolphin......or maybe a whiskey spirit bear.
What Erik L said. But tattoo or not it's good to see the black vneck back lol I didn't realize just how strange it was not seeing it until it came back.

...and now my wife thinks I'm crazy. Laughed out loud a couple of times during the Macallan M story. 🤭
Was there different notes after you watered down the 40% Whiskey?
This is the first video of the entire set of everything where Daniel sounds 'drunk.' Slurring his words a bit. Totally understandable. The question should be... how can a person do such a number of whisky reviews and yet never sound tipsy... Good job Daniel!
Cheers!
whisky gault? what's a gault?
Daniel back to sporting the black T. Will there be a tattoo unveiling?
This is smooth 👌 I paid 20$ for the bottle ... Best bang for my buck
Great video as always guys, Daniel great to see the Black t shirt and hopefully we get to see your tattoo! Slainte
Yes! Love Canadian reviews. Thanks guys
What about Pikes Creek Rum finish ?
I picked up a bottle of that about 2 weeks ago... really enjoying it. I saw they have the Port finish version in the Vault but not the Rum... If only I could ship it across the border...

The Barrel Select is coll um distilled, not copper pot. You need to get the "Forty Creek Copper Pot" for that....
That was an amazing mooching, almost master level.
Awesome mooching skills!!!
You guys saying grundel made me laugh my ass off. Memories of Cards Against Humanity. You guys are great.
Fourth Creek was one of my first... memories..
Is a gault similar to a Gunt?
I think that's deserving of a Master Mooch necklace, get on it Rex!
the mooching story was amazing! hahaha
Who is John Galt?

Found a corn whiskey for you......almost by accident! Lol!

Bought a bottle to try. Starts sweet. Has an after burn, but then there is the salty bitterness aftertaste that lingers on and on. Almost off-putting.
What a sweet channel. .
That may be the greatest mooching story I've ever heard.
I like Legacy it's a good cheap whiskey
Daniel is being nice because the somm spirit told him to or he would Help Rex with getting another #Rexweek . Cheers.
I feel like the world is right again now that Daniel is wearing his black tshirt again. Yay
Jennifer Dedrick Yes, it’s been weird seeing him as Daniel the White Whisk(e)y Wizard.......he seems saltier now that he’s back in black.
"And Screw Top". Isnt that a much better seal? Or is that just a myth? I seriously want to know. 😞
FERNANDO ZAMORA Anything that screws is good.......
On the 40 Creek I get like a butter Carmel popcorn, very tasty
12-year-old Canadian club small batch easy to get the best sipping whiskey.
Wow, the meat of this review is almost a straight up reading of the published notes readily available online at The Whisky Wash back in 2016
I tried to like forty creek premium select especially with such a low price... To my taste, its overly sweet, simple and watery
AMPed UP on Wildspark!
Get some and PAY these guys!
Did Chad edit the video so Rex’s bitching about not getting a whiskey poured for him in the first 90 seconds was wrong, or was Rex just wrong - because the comment was made at 84-86 seconds, as whisky was hitting his glass.
"Grundle enthusiast"... That taint funny.... OK yes it is...
I looked up what grundle is.Regret nothing

Wait!?!?! so a friend in Canada on Sunday is a freind? Who taught Daniel English???
THE BOOK IS BACK
Charlie is now a Fallen Saint, also known as a Dark Mooch
So you AREN’T actually supposed to inhale the mist when you spray air freshener? Wow, who knew? 🐸
scenario: Daniel doesn't see Rex for a week.
Daniel "well i guess this will be the quarterly challenge week"
to save some time the grundle is the taint
these guys, i like
Like 6.5 Grendel
Somehow this first minute makes me think "Welcome to the grundle" but sung to the tune of welcome to the jungle...
tullamore dew caribbean cask
So I googled (almost immediately) what Grundle is... thank you urban dictionary. Colourful descriptions.
Not first, but close enough!
Jameson 12-year Distillery Reserve
The taint, the grundle, the fleshy fun bridge.
Forget whatever name you were planning for the bar, it shall now be named, "The Gault & Grundle"
I have family members that work for Forty Creek and have access to all of their limited releases. Still not a fan, sadly.
Charlie may have surpassed Rex in mooch level.
The funny thing is, the guy who owned the 'M' probably watches this hahahah
Maybe Rex needs to genuflect to that level of saintly moochification.
REX WEEK AGAIN!!!!!!!! WHEN ??????????????
I thought this was a review.....yada...yada.. IS this whiskey any good or not? simple question....
Man, are y'all drunk or sunburnt. Need to slather on some spf 50
