  • In a recent article on Slate.com, the author says regarding Hajj, “Saudi Arabia has turned the holy journey into a political and moral nightmare. I don’t see how I can go.” When I googled Boycott Hajj, articles upon articles popped up about this issue - in fact, there is also a petition, now closed, on change.org calling for boycott Saudi and boycott Hajj. Given that Hajj is one of the five pillars of faith, how should we make sense of this issue? As always, let’s sit down and talk to Dr.Shabir Ally and learn more?

Mecca and Madinah need to be a separate country from Al Saud ul Najd. Similar to how the Vatican is not a part of Italy. That completely neutralizes the political aspect of Hajj. Reason why it's not happening is because Najdi House of Saud profits from the prophets.

The Hijaz is under the occupation of a violent group of highway robbers that were placed there by the imperial British state. We as Muslims need to seriously consider ways of starving this imperial creation out of existence and boycotting the hajj is one possible way.

So the Quoran and the Prophet (pbuh) had laid out a particular number of experiences that an individual was expected to engage in over and above simply traveling to Mecca. I'm guessing that there must be some recording of ones participation in these activities, like a certificate or something, right?

@@brucesims3228 Hajj is a pilgrimage that takes place in the month of Dhul Hijjah. It is compulsory for Muslims to perform the Hajj at least once in their lifetime if they are financially and physically able to. There are various practices and rituals that are attached to the Hajj.
Outside that month, for the other 11 months of the year, Muslims can visit Makkah as often as they want to perform the lesser pilgrimage, the umrah. The umrah is not compulsory upon Muslims but there is great reward for it. Muslims can also visit Makkah and just pray at the Kaabah, in the Grand Mosque, or even just attend classes, or simply to contemplate and spend time away from the hustle bustle of this world.
There is no certificate to prove that you have done the Hajj or umrah as you dont do it for worldly benefit, you do it to obey God.

I think we should go back to the way hajj was INITIALLY intended by Allah. Its not a 10 day period. Hajj is a 4 month period. People cram into the short window out of ignorance and laziness if I can be honest. Not lazy physically but mentally. Most muslims dont read Quran enough to understand what actual rights/freedoms they truly have. With that said i can damn sure understand why people want to boycott. I'm not sure how some Muslims can think that Allah is waiting for them in Makkah while many of their countries, families, and countrymen in need, in poverty, and are dying due to the lack of health care and nutrition, then they go spend huge sums to just feel psyched-up and be amused with the holy sites, and maybe shed a tear or two, thousands and thousands of miles away from those who are in urgent need of any help available.
Let me put it simply in this example, if one of our neighbours is in urgent need of a medicine and we only have 5 dollars, should we spend those 5 dollars to get to the masjid and pray in congregation and get "phsyced-up" or should we think it's a must and more of a priority and obligation from Allah to help our neighbor?
Some Muslims have lost any kind of common sense. Allah is free of need, he doesn't need us to be at places, he commands us to worship Him alone with every single step we take. Rituals are just a part of the recipe, but all the rituals in the world can't save a selfish arrogant spirit. It baffles me when I see some Syrians are paying thousands of dollars to travel to hajj while other Syrians have nothing nutritious to eat, their underaged kids are working and have left education, and have no shelter, what kind of destruction is waiting such an Ummah? I think we are witnessing the results but more is yet to come unless we wake up and believe in the one True God, Allah, and disbelieve in the god that our history and culture have created!

    @moeceesay8201 5 років тому

This was a great video with great explanation on why it is not smart to boycott Hajj. First of all it is one of the five pillars, meaning it is 100% necessary to complete before we leave this world, no matter what, and since Hajj is seasonal people have to go as soon as they can and not put it off till Saudi changes, or for any other reason because as he said in the video "life is short", we don't know what could happen to us to make us incapable of going or unable to do so. Second, boycotting Hajj as a weapon to use against the rulers of Saudi will not make any difference, the majority of people who go to Hajj don't really know much about Saudi politics and are really devote muslims, so they would perform the hajj no matter what Saudi does, because their intention is to do it for Allah not to put money in the pockets of the Saudi royals, it just happens to work out that way. Third, in order for a boycott of Hajj to actually have an affect to have the Saudi royals change its behavior, it must be a massive boycott that lowers the number of people going by the millions. Lastly, Saudi is a really rich country I'm not sure anyone knows howe much Hajj makes up for their GDP. For all we know Hajj is only a small fraction of its overall wealth and boycotting the Hajj will not hurt them in the slightest. So in conclusion I believe if people want to make Saudi suffer for their human rights violation, they should maybe fight political in their country. For example, apply pressure on law makers to cut Saudi trade and support, or push for governments to sanction the royals. They are multiple ways to punish Saudi for their actions, but boycotting Hajj one of the five pillars of out great religion is not one of them.

If you really understand there economy then you see that they keeping America float with buying billions of dollars of weapons.

If people want to boycott Hajj to hurt Alsaud financially that they depend heavily on then it's their choice and you are not their judge. They will be at sin and will hold your burden for not doing Hajj because Allah does not accept you putting yourself in harms way and 1 drop of a Muslims blood is more precious than the Kaaba. Once these mufsidene are removed then we can continue.

I am not surprised that there is a American Muslim movement to boycott Hajj .
The US has a very strong and organised Shia presence which is loyal to Iran. Who believe that Najf is more important than Makkah.
BTW Hajj generates around 2 billion dollars to the whole Saudi economy. Government coffers lose money.

Also, why is it a mandatory Pilar to make Hajj, doesn’t that mean it’s making it a black mail and burden for Muslims to perform Hajj, guaranteeing money for the host nation I.e. (Saudi Arabia)? How do people not see this? Just because God says if you don’t do it you’re going to hell or lower level of heaven and bad deeds not wiped out? Someone please explain other than saying Allah ordered you to do it and made it a Pillar of the faith.

Hajj was always free, but now they change everything, they put 5 star hotel, visa fee, and you name it. So no matter what, you can't do hajj without money. This is corruption, if you can't talk against it than you have problem

Did you all know that if you take ALL of the prayer directions from ALL the mosques from the 1st hundred years , they actually point to Petra? Not only does it fit the geological descriptions of Mecca, it has the Crescent carved there . There's even some evidence that the black stone was moved during a war. And, as it is thought to be what was referred to as Becca, it's believed to have been changed in ancient documents to Mecca. ( the arabic letters are very close and would have been very easy to change )

Western documentaries are rarely well-documented regarding islam (or anything else for that matter)

It has been derived from a famous hadith known as Hadith Jibreel. An occasion when Angel Jibreel met the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him in the presence of his companions, may Allah be pleased with them.
Jibreel asked the Prophet PBH what is Islam? The answer was the five pillars.

@@tuahabadar I doubt that any academic will dismiss the argument as it is in authentic hadith.
Below is an example which is very straight to the point:
“Islam is built upon five [pillars]: the testimony that there is no god but Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; establishing regular prayer (salaah); paying the zakaah; Hajj (pilgrimage) and fasting Ramadaan.” (Al-Bukhaari, no. 8)

@@amansur1 Again, perhaps I wasn't straightforward enough to express myself that your argument is not compelling, thanks for sharing what you know, but I am not interested in your point of view, as i am asking from the Scholars not the commentators, unless you are a scholar yourself, have written books that have been peered review and you hold a PhD in either of the relevant field such as history, anthropology, psychology, human behaviour, etymology and religion. Which i believe you clearly don't and that is why you are presenting me the references of Bukhari hadith which was collected after two centuries from oral tradition to written, and no the prayer doesn't mean salah, the salah means establishing a connection (you can review any Arabic etymology for Hijazi dialect). Hajj, on the other hand, was done way before there was any Islam (you can read Arab history).

Because the early Muslims, after the death of the Prophet, conspired to change the real location of the Sacred Temple from Jerusalem to Mecca.
