    This saved my life. 8 months of mewing, 26 year old. It took me 7 months to be able to get the back o the tongue up on the palate, so I've been properly mewing for about 1 month. I no longer have an overbite. Allergies have gone, asthma gone, can sleep better. I look a hell of a lot better. You are godsend. May you live a long, long life. Thanks a ton, Doc!
    I can't wait to see the difference in a couple of years, particularly with the angle of the mandible.

      @Vulcrax 6 років тому +72

      @@andjela7847 It may not possible to get the molars touching initially if you have had an overbite, as the tongue will in the way (narrow palate). If you can get the molars touching also whilst mewing, then that is of course, ideal.
      Press as hard as you can with the tongue on the palate as much as you can, and let the lower jaw (mandible) come forward with the force of the tongue pressing the palate and whatever part of the teet touches, let it touch. In my case, the incisors were the only ones that had contact initially.
      Gradually, as the palate expands - usually in the order of the front most teeth to the back most teeth, in my experience - the molars will close in eventually, when the tongue fits in perfectly inside the palate. This may take some time, so I think it's alright to keep only the incisors in contact at first - with the force of the tongue, that is.

    Dr. Mike Mew, you'll get more attention if you explain it in a simple and complex way. Not just the complex. You are talking to people who were not graduated in odontology. You need to make the solution clear

      As a non dentist, I understand what he is saying. The trick is to see all the video the mew's are on. I came across Orthotropic a few years ago but did not quite understand how it works. The new videos illustrates the difference between orthodontics and orthotropics. I had ortho treatment done but my incisor relapsed since midway through treatment my retainers broke and I was too afraid to see the orthodontist. I also realised that as a kid my mouth was open and my face elongated when I was 8. I also had partially blocked nose that I did not realise was blocked. If I was to run I found it helped if I breath in through my nose and breath out to my mouth. Like Dr Mew I have always been inquisitive and wondered why my teeth and lips are misaligned. Now I'm going to keep my tongue at the palate, make sure my incisors are aligned and close my mouth at all times.

    I have this and everything you've said is dead on. I don't rest in that overbite position. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it looks horrible. And I do have stiffness and popping in my jaw, especially the left. I can already feel a difference by pressing my tongue on my palate and touching my front teeth together. I'm hoping to make permanent improvements. Thank you so much for this!

      But do you still bite with a deep bite or do you force yourself to chew your food with your front teeth? I have the same problem, but i can't seem to understand how people in this situation are supposed to chew properly and i'm worried that its affecting the mewing progress negatively.

    • @1000wastedwords

      Doing this I noticed that that my face is slightly crooked and so I try to chew on my "weaker" side. I think if your bite is even just chew with your molars and make sure you're using your tongue as much as possible and swallowing appropriately. I think if you keep your posture correct as much as possible your teeth will slowly move as your bones do.

    I have deepbite and this video explains the resting position brilliantly. My front teeth are in the position shown in the picture only when chewing or asked to clench, otherwise, they have a normal freeway space. It's the molars which have significanly larger freeway space.
    Dr. Mew was correct on the Taser thing too.

    • @empalio5305
      @empalio5305 6 років тому +12

      Same here. I have a very square face and get lots of compliments on jaw line etc but when I clench it feels less natural. If I wear my old retainer (which still fits 11+ years later) it opens my bite up a bit and feels much more natural. I had braces in my early teens but still ended up with a fair bit of deepbite (maybe 60%). Mentioned it to a few very qualified dentists / orthodontists and they all said it was fine and normal but ideally I'd like to knock a few mm off it.

    This video explains my situation exactly. I had braces for 2 years with a Herbst appliance. The orthodontist put in a permanent retainer without even telling me. I felt so betrayed that I ripped it out with pliers. I still don't understand why they couldn't just give me a removable retainer for my lower teeth. My teeth were fine for about 10 years after that until I started grinding them in my sleep. That pushed my lower teeth forward, so I had to move my jaw back to chew, which pushed my lower teeth forward more- it is a vicious cycle. I was considering getting invisalign, but you have changed my mind. The orthodontist ruined my teeth. I still have glue left behind from the braces that prevents my gums from un-receding. Part of my enamel on my front tooth was ripped off while they removed the braces. And the fluoride toothpaste the orthodontist gave me created irreversible divots and white spots on several of my teeth. I have been brushing my teeth with baking soda for the past 10 years and haven't had any cavities. My dentist says my teeth look better than they did years ago, but I suspect that is because I floss daily.

    I'm sure that having Cronic ASTHMA ADDS to underdevelopment of the face and the lower jaw.
    Just found this and I am inhaling theory and knowledge about mewing. A total deep dive. THANK YOU for SHARING this with us.
    And it resonates on every level. I actually stopped chewing gum because I was so aware of my overbite and the way I looked. I've also been very aware of the way I look while eating food, so this has kept me from going to parties where we eat food. (I know, it's hillarious)
    I was born 8weeks early, had asthma my entire life, had severe overbite, 12mm and got braces at age 12. Two teeth were pulled out. Unfortunately my orthodontist committed suicide and I never got any follow up, and the overbite has slowly come back. Specially after an accident where I was bedridden for 1 year, and had to learn how to walk again. For me physical fitness go hand in hand with the way my face changes.
    I also understand that I became overbite because of my challenge breathing my first years of life. I got a new life when I got good functioning medication at age 10. None told me or parents that it would create havock on my teeth, and I paid with extreme amounts of cavities and traumatic dental treatment in my pre teens and teens.
    However I've always been aware of good posture, understood early the need of excersise as medication for asthma.
    This is extremely intersting. I wonder how much it will effect my facial structure at middle age... what if...
    I have contemplated surgery, but in general I'm pro natural methods as far as possible.🤔
    Exciting times ahead, exiting times indeed 🤩🤩

Even when I wash dishes & mew, it doesn’t feel like a chore anymore😂. I just love mewing & wish I knew about it before I was in my 20’s. I would’ve had my dream chin I thought I would need from surgery. Even my lips are fuller. Mewing is basically keeping your head tilt back, chin tucked into chest with your lips sealed balancing everything, & your teeth aligned & together but not touching, with a strong bite, swallow all the moisture out your teeth, gums & cheek always, swallow the back of your tongue, chest up, pinky’s up always, shoulders back, make sure you’re still biting down hard but don’t force it, toes, elbows, collarbones & knees pointed, keep swallowing, that’s the mewing recipe.

Mouth looks to be frowning at rest. I'm not sure if procling my teeth would help with my facual aesthetics? (I'm wondering about damon braces for this). Is there something going on with your nose that is causing you to breathe through your mouth? If there is swelling in your nose, like from allergies, that can cause problems with not being able to breathe well through your mouth and also some sleep apnea. I sometimes have problems with breathing through my nose because of congestion. It seems like a nasal saline spray helps. But you can ask a doctor about your nose. I wonder if those breathing strips would help you too, to wear at night. I think sleeping with your head at a higher angle helps with sleep apnea too. I make a triangle of one pillow, then 2, then 3- with my head on the 3 pillows, my chest on the 2 pillows, and below that on the one pillow to help me sleep hight which helps a lot. Some people use a wedge pillow or put big wooden blocks under the legs of the bed at the top to raise the top higher. A 30 degree angle helps with breathing. A 45 degree angle helps even more with breathing. Both angles help things drain out of your head at night better. I like the mewing techniques he's talking about. Just trying it, I feel my ears unclogging and more room for breathing. Maybe try this technique yourself. There's lots of videos on how to do it. Definitely talk to a doctor to see if there's anything you can do to help you breathe better too. YOu may need allergy medicine daily. I also do other stuff with pillows to try to get a 45 degree angle sometimes. Hope some of this helps!

    this (and many other videos) is all very informative, but i (and obviously some other people down here) can't understand one thing. from one hand our - deep overbite crowd's - normal resting jaw position isn't clenched but rather "free-hanging" with our tong softly distancing our molars and while everything at this position overbite is almost gone. from the other the common mewing instruction states that we should keep out tong gently pressing against the palate while keeping our molar slightly touching. so does the second point mean that if we want to move the upper teeth line away (upper and forward) we must go against our "nature" and strive to touch our molars together moving jaw backwards and keeping it in the unwanted deep overbite position for time being? i'm asking because, surprise-surprise, i also have narrow palate (idk in metric term but just by feeling that there's not enough space for my tongue) so i am comfortable at putting my tongue upwards and even pushing against the palate, i'm fine breathing through my nose and mona lisa swallowing, but my tongue just wants some more space by moving jaw a bit down and forward.

    I have a very challenging deep bite issue. If I'm honest it looks horrendous. I absolutely loath pictures of me smiling or from the side profile. Being 42 it has of course gotten worse over time so I'm hopeful that if that is the case then surely it can get better. Since my case is a very difficult one I will be sure to update if I have any success. So far I have been doing mewing (good tongue posture) for nearly a year. What I failed to do was correct swallowing. The pressure of my lips, particularly the lower lip, literally pushes so much pressure that it feels impossible to compete with my tongue and some lower teeth have collapsed inward giving a crowded appearance. Mewing hasn't caused this I must add. My teeth have been collapsing in since I was a child when my adult teeth came in. It worsened in my 20s and due to an invasive root canal the teeth on the left have collapsed in more.
    Anyway, now that I feel I have mastered soft mewing I am now focusing on correct posture and hard mewing when I remember.
    Shall keep you posted.

    My maxilla isn't recessed anymore, mewing for over a year now, deep bite hasnt changed a bit. My incisors just stick out too much, so when my molars touch, they overlap too much

      So you saw a change in your cheeks appearance?

    • @asura8495
      @asura8495 4 роки тому

      @@Fin4L6are yes, but that didnt happen from mewing. I mentioned that because he said that would cure/help deep bite.
      The maxilla correction came from frequent heavy force thumbpulling

    • @Fin4L6are
      @Fin4L6are 4 роки тому

      @@asura8495 thanks, I might start doing that. What makes me apprehensive is that my lower teeth are more narrow than the upper, they kind of sit inside of the upper teeth all around, which makes me think thumbpulling will make it worse... In your case it's only the top incisors that are too forward, not the molars that sit wider on the top jaw?

    • @asura8495
      @asura8495 4 роки тому

      It's not that they're too forward, they are overlapping too much/deep.
      I didn't expand my maxilla much (yet), I only brought it forward quite a lot, the mabdible followed, the bite hasn't changed.
      Are your lower teeth completely inside the upper arch or are you able to meet the chewing surfaces on bith sides simultaneously when biting down, because it's normal that upper teeth are a little but wider

    • @Fin4L6are
      @Fin4L6are 4 роки тому

      @@asura8495 yeah they're not completely inside, the bottom molars contact about halfway on the top ones. But looking into it I think maxilla correction is definitely what I should be doing

    So will mewing cause your overbite to protrude?

  • @Artolink97
    @Artolink97 10 місяців тому

    Ok, but I haven't understood if I need to mew in the "deep bite" position and things will fix, or if I need to in my "standard natural" position where the front teeth touch.
    What is the correct one? Please respond only if you are 100% sure, or if you had the same problem and fixed it.

    This is very interesting!.
    Interested in this "orthotropic" as I am an individual with a deep "overbite" causing my face to look short. I've had braces and was told I needed jaw surgery to correct my bite. I was actually due to go thru with surgery until I had complications with my health insurance. Ultimately got my teeth taken care of but my bite not only bugs me, but I feel might be getting worse.

      How deep / short? Jaw surgery is an absolute palaver, my friend went through it and it took months and months to recover.

      Keep your tongue on your palate (the upper round bone surface in your mouth) try covering all the palate even the softer fleshy back part, and try pushing with all your tongue using as much strength as you can, and keep teeth aligned.
