I was just looking for tips on covering square cakes and baby Laurie threw me through a loop! And then realising I watched the engagement cake tutorial video years ago when I started out! lol Great video btw, thanks for the tips!
wow u did an awesome job and u made it look so easy! thank u 4 taking ur time to show us a few new tricks, i have the rolling mat but never thought 2 use it 2 place my fondant over my cake, & here a i have a few people telling me i need 2 get the clear non stick matts, but u just saved me a lot of money with this little trick! thank u again..
Evon Esparza No problem! I am so glad I could help. I really like my non stick matt. I always use it. I don't use it to place my fondant on my cake every time, but it is a handy trick to know!
Thanks for the tops -- I need them! I'm covering my son's rectangular birthday cake later today. Eight thin layers of almond sponge with raspberry jam and crème diplomat fillings alternating between layers, with the layers soaked with a Chambord syrup. I really don't want to mess this up!
@@EdikeOCGift Somewhere between "Meh" and "Well, THAT happened..." My main takeaway from this was that, in future, I need to assemble entremets in molds, freeze them, and then frost or glaze them. Without the mold I had to resort to two long skewers vertically through the cake at thirds along its length. Not ideal at all. Delicious, though.
Hi there. Please, help me with my problem. I covered my cake with fondant and after a few minutes it became humid and I was unable to smood it cause the fondant was damp. And plus to that a bubbles appeared under the fondant. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial im gonna have a masterchef contest at which its a confectionary showdown i have to practice myself in covering a square cake hehehe it looks kinda complex but i'll try
+The Icing Artist i did it!! With 8 hours of practice i did my best for the first round thanks for the tips!!! Do you have a recipe for mooncake cupcakes? Please if you have a tutorial please show me hehehe tnx for the help
Hi there, I purchase my fondant from flour confections. It is called confections choice rolled fondant. I have always wanted to try making my own, but i have yet to give it a try :)
How thick do you roll your fondant? I seem to always have crack and tears in mine. Just can't get it the correct thickness, I guess. Not sure what the problem is. I have one of those sheets too, they are awesome!!
+Donitta Fields Hi Donitta, I hate when that happens! I would try not to use as much icing sugar when rolling it out. Roll out your fondant till it is about 1/8" thick. Work VERY quickly. As the fondant it rolled out it begins to dry very quickly, that will cause a lot of the cracks. I hope this was helpful, please let me know if you have any more questions :)
Hey. Thanks for your video. I went to your site to see your icing filling recipe. I read that it dries rock hard. Is this the icing we want under our fondant? I didn't know we wanted rock hard icing. Thanks.
Alexandra Salerno hi there, no you dont want the icing that dries rock hard. Royal icing dries rock hard. Buttercream icing slightly crusts but stays nice and soft. you want to use buttercream icing.
+Destiny Nichols Just use your hands if you dont have a smoother. Check out this video for more tips and the water technique ua-cam.com/video/sTmUPtsPDxE/v-deo.html
+Amber Phillips I use confections choice fondant from www.flourconfections.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=fondant&osCsid=b2e0fd007078ad7a0bf4b70432a155ec
+LaTricia Hi there! You will need, 10"sq chocolate cake, butter cream icing, fondant, cake leveller, fondant smoother, off set spatula, gel paste, rolling pin, fondant matt, scissors and a knife. Good luck!

Yes I do, I used One cup of butter, 4 cups of icing sugar, 3/4 cup of cocoa, vanilla, and 4 tbs of water. Thanks for your comment!
The Icing Artist By icing sugar, do you mean confectioner's sugar? And how much vanilla? Thank you!
how do you keep the buttercream from sticking to fondant smoother? Is it cold or frozen 1st?
+Lala LaRue the cake was cold from the freezer, use a little icing sugar on your smoother to stop it from sticking.
