  • Back again this time I am actually going through the Nevis Road rather than venturing up a side track. This is still one of my favourite parts of the country, with that real remote feeling about it. I hope you enjoy.

Gooseberries - they looked really ripe!

Thanks!.. Must be a different variety. I'm used to seeing the Cape Gooseberries that have the husk/shell thing around them.

@@SwampChook These are the variant that I know from England, the bush has significant thorns - I find them to be much tastier than the Cape.

Oh cool. Interesting. Now I want to go back and try them. Given the history of the place I wonder if they were brought over by one of the miners back in the day.

@@SwampChook Think you'll have to wait till next year now. Will be doing a nice little trip early December. Trying to get thru the track running from Pelorus Bridge (West of Canvastown) to the back of Nelson. Will then head South to run the Rainbow Road, then back up thru Molesworth. Will see how my van goes!

Very nice, what's the maximum fording depth you can do. Thinking of going through this April, but 500mm is all I can go through.

I haven't measured it, but have had it bonnet deep. Though I wouldn't recommend going that deep.
