Now I see why these knifes are so expensive the hard work that goes into making them and the craftsmanship are amazing!! I want one

Real skilled craftmanship. Just amazing! 👍 🖖
Thank you for sharing your amazing gift and abilities. Your knives are beautiful.
I watched many knife making, I have never come across anyone like this master, a work of art.
Watching the hardness of the steel progressively get harder is insane! Super rock hard🤘🏼
... "the hardness getting harder". You're not saying!
Peaceful watching a piece of art being made. His heart and soul go into making every knife.
Yeah it feels like it is one of the most stressless jobs
This was beautiful to watch. I did get lost a couple times when new blades were added, but beautiful knives in the end
They were tools. To cut the metal in half and what not. Nvm I see what you mean lol
^er what? At the start it was confusing as the 3 blades were added in the manufacturing stage. The viewer thought it was only one.
Watching him is an art in itself he's a great inspiration altogether
Incredible!! The blades look and function perfectly!!!
These are real craftsmen. I can say it's the best I've ever seen. Congratulations master..

Great respect for this experienced man that gives steal life and creates not just knifes but pieces of art.

My father made beautiful knives and this man is truly gifted.
My brother in law is a master blacksmith and coach builder in England when I was younger I would watch him make all sorts of things (not fine knives however) so this is very comforting for me. The hammer noise the forge, a furnace really I think. But excellent channel thank you
It's he much older than you? We're you the kid at the shop?

Maestro de maestros .
It's always fun watching a master of his craft do what he does no matter the craft. You'll always see something pretty cool even if you're not that into the craft. His gloves are hilarious at the end.

Wow.
I love blacksmithing for some reason.
The addition of machines is strangely satisfying, but one of such quality can never lose the handmade touch.
The way the grease leaves the.. patterns is beautiful.
The blacksmith seems to carry a sense of pride as he shows the finished products.
Such beautiful knives!
❤️❤️❤️!
..i wish i could visit a factory.
as far as I'm aware, the liquid he puts the knives in to reveal the patterns is a form of acid
The pattern is caused by etching the forge welded steel in acid. You layer high carbon steel and steel with nickel content and the acid etches them at different rates, which brings out the layered pattern they were forge welded into.
Absolutely incredible!!! The beauty is unmatched I really want to learn how to do this.
Yes, we want more craftsmen 🥺

The KNIFE that cuts through the steel. It will survive for ages to come. Most incredible work of art by the knife maker.
@@tawan5753 im sure he used steel that doesn´t rust
@@Fabsi87 Definitively not. Stainless steel loses most of its "anti oxidation properties" when heated. He used a good carbon steel, like 1084-1095, and for the damascus one, pretty sure it's 1095+15N20.
That edge was detroyed .
Not so good .
@@sorin_ion8151 agree
Cutting steel isn't really anything impressive unless you know exactly what you're dealing with.
e.g. due to the difference in heat-treatment decent $30 kitchen knife will be able to to some extend cut the side of the unhardened back of a traditionally made (kobuse) Katana but not the cutting edge of the sword as the hardness will be lower at the back but not the edge in spite of both being made from the same material.
(the typical visible often white-polished wavy line on Japanese swords is due to the difference in crystalline structure created by only hardening the edge)
When dealing with shock-resistance and general toughness it get quite a bit more complicated ... and modern tool-steels (e.g. CPM3V) exceeding traditional steels in many regards often need a less eyeballing workshop style heat-treating protocol for best performance.
So it's unlikely that we're dealing with anything special when it comes to the steel used by the smith, Philipe is probably correct or at-least very close.

Simply amazing!!! (to watch) Nothin simple bout the technique. True Master
I’ve been making knives for 16 years and I don’t have words for this man’s art.
Yeah true art to use rusty steel. 🤣
@@JJ79_ thats not rust, thats dragons piss "dried" 🤣
Source: trust me bro
On your comment alone I am going to continue watching, generally when someone stacks rusted steel and does not clean it first it tends to cold shut to hell and back so when I see it happening on a vid I do not watch farther as the content is not going to assist me in learning more by studying bad habits.
You say you have 16 years in and are impressed by him. I have 4 years of study on all material I can get my hands on but no time at a forge with my heat triggered seizures, hoping to get around that in a covered out door space in cool weather with electric kilns as my primary heating source but ya you have the experience that I lack so I will keep watching. Will post again after I watch all the way.
@@JJ79_ All steel in storage rust. If you clean the rusty scales off, you introduce air gaps. if you don't clean the rust off, then now you have rust in your blade. Forge welding requires a VERY fine balance, and I'm sure the artisan depicted here knows better than you.
It's evident knife making is tough, but it also looks so fun and uniquely satisfying. 😌

the hardness test at last few seconds blew my mind. amazing work. Respect
Hardness test? 22:31 the blade is damaged. Put on pause and have a look 🤷♂️
@@alexanderandreev9463 metal against metal, of course it's going to damage but it's amazing that this knife can cut through metal. That's the point that scene is making that you do not understand.
@@alexanderandreev9463 There is no knife that can cut through metal bars and not get damaged. Are you a fool? But most knives cannot even cut through metal bars. This man's knife can cut through metal bars. You are a clown.
@@alexanderandreev9463 It passed the hardness test with flying colors dude... any cheap metal would've been severely damaged and WARPED after being hammer against another Metal...
..but the fact that it not only remained intact, but CUT THROUGH the other Metal proves it's more DENSE and Solid than the metal it was being hammered against!
*Sorry if that flew over your head (._.) not to mention the fact that the edge of the blade seemed almost unfazed by the entire test (:/)!*

Thank you for including the flux application. I've never been entirely clear on that part.
It's also nice to see that even a master can end up with a little "fish mouth" on the end of a billet! Gives us amateurs some perspective!
Thats because you need to be practicing Bass to mouth
Flux means that white powder? What is use of it? Filling the gaps between plates?
@@Praxss It's to keep air away from the billet when forge welding metal together. The white powder is borax and boils into liquid, seeping into every crack and crevasse. Trying to do it without borax or some other flux makes each layer of metal peel apart. If you've seen the scale that forms on the metal and needs to be brushed off, imagine that getting in between the metal as he's trying to forge weld it together.
@@5thwiseman I'm pretty sure that's the repercussion of. Not precautionary measures to😆. Now Lemmiwinks, move forth and make with haste! For if you stick around, you'll catch Catatafish's underdeveloped bass-to-mouth disease.
