@@movienaut Oh no, this is the best movie for the CCP. Instead of overcoming tradition and great odds with your smart, independent thinking and non-conformity, you should instead use your heaven sent superiority over the barbarians and mystical Chinese arts to crush your opposition.
Mulan has got to be my favorite Disney movie. Because it was heavily based on the original folk lore of Milan but also had its own creativity like adding Mushu and the Cricket, and giving all these characters pleasant personalities that made it more enjoyable to watch. Milan didn’t have powers, she wasn’t a Mary Sue. She was a normal girl who only wanted to help her father because if he had gone, he could be killed. And she knew she was going to be killed if she got caught yet she did it anyways which is what shows her incredible mindset. And as she grew as a character, so did the other characters. They all messed up, had a hard time with training, and struggled to get through with things but over time they ALL became physically strong, smarter, and better fit for the reason they were all there, to fight in a war. It wasn’t Milan holding up the whole team. And the love story was so subtle yet precious I adored it. It was a good movie that showed healthy feminism and girl power without just shoving it down your throat. And then they remade it and now the children of the future will likely only watch the remake because ooo magic.
@@user-insight Good, the name had been tarnished forever by this movie now, so just like kids making up PG swear words, we have to make up a new name for the original movie and the character and the original tale, because otherwise it'd be an insult
@Bernie's Mittens What you just described has nothing to do with feminism. A strong PERSON is someone who fights through setbacks and earns their victory. Its not "feminist storytelling" just because the protagonist is female. No part of the story is about fighting for gender equality and none of the movies were meant as a "feminist" stories. Mulan is a role model for her bravery, love and unselfishness, but she is not a feminist icon.

Even in Hua Mulan where she WAS better than most of the other characters... It was because she trained her entire life under the tutelage of one of the greatest masters. Her reason for joining the army was as much to save her father, who would have been killed due to his asthma, as it was because she knew she was the best for the job. Also her falling inlove with the general was a like more sweet because she liked him because he was caring and compassionate (For example, he... as the general... Would fill in for guards who needed rest). . Suffice it to say I like Hua Mulan better than this movie.
@@Nionivek Hua Mulan (2009) was better because even though she was a better fighter than others, the film was about responsibility and the horrors of war, not proving oneself. Don't you just love that everybody is a chosen one now? No one needs to practice to become good at something... Just like real life. Great message for kids.
It's because the true goal of mainstream pop "feminism" these days isn't to empower girls to rise up and be equal to men... it's to create an imaginary narrative where they're automatically stronger just by existing. And Disney sees dollar signs by cashing in on this trend, instead of leaning into what made their girl characters _already_ strong and empowering role models in the first place.

That's what they were going for but it was executed very poorly. The bad guys treat the Witch like crap even though she's basically fighting a one woman war for most of it, it really makes you wonder why she needs the bad guys help at all, it seems like she could just fly into the palace and kill the Emperor then take the throne for herself. Showing her the way and the sacrifice make sense but the exposing the plan does not.
By turning Mulan into Ray they completely destroyed how dramatic her decision to replace her father was. In the original it was a sacrifice of a simple girl as it was likely for her to die in very first battle.
At least Rey had a personality and was beaten by Kylo Ren when they first met, and even after Kylo was almost mortally wounded, he almost beat her. Mulan 2020 didn't succeed all the time only because she didn't want to look special.
Its like whoever did this remake just did not understand or even maybe watch the original and does not know real human emotions very well at all. AI would do a better job than this Fubared version.
Nope. Worse than Rey. By a lot. Rey was a character with personality and flaws. She was hot headed, reckless, and didn't seem to care much about the cause she found herself fighting for until it started killing off all of her father figures, just to name a few. Mulan's just like "Hey, I'm a badass, and that's really it. Don't question it or I'll kick you in the head with my obvious CGI and cheesy 80s action movie wirefighting-I mean, my magic chi powers."
@@NickTheGreatAndPowerful Rey also formed a quick relationship with BB-8 because they were both lonely souls who were separated from the people they were closest to. That's a great way to show personality.
“But if they don’t live up to his expectations they get sent home” “So wouldn’t have Mulans father just would’ve got sent home if he had gone?” ... “Oh my god..”
What's funny is that in the original version, Mulan's father was hinted to be a renowed soldier in his prime, so even if he failed Shang's physical tests he would have been kept around as either a tactician or an assistant training officer so him going would get him killed by the Huns regardless of his physical condition, as there was no way he'd be turned away. Remember how surprised Shang and the advisor were at the news that "THE Hua Zou" had a son? In this version though...yeah, wait, why bother taking his place at all when he has no proud legacy to either uphold or use for non-combat military positions? It's astounding how one dialogue exchange that only lasts a few seconds gives all the context needed for why Mulan's father's weak physical condition wouldn't have spared him from military service, yet something that easy couldn't be assed to be given in the 2020 version.
I heard somewhere also that, by having the "normal" sister just continue to serve her common duty, this also shows young girls that if they aren't especially gifted, they're less important. I agree with that. The sister probably shouldn't have been made...much like this movie in general
But at least Rey and Neo didn’t manifest any special powers until they were adults. And Anakin was already too old and nowhere near being acknowledged as the best Jedi. “Are the soldiers going to have fun personalities......No because that would be fun” 😂🤣😂

"Oh, like, right off the bat? No arc? Just like all the other strong women? Okay..."
Sad how much Hollywood likes this Mary Sue trope.
Mulan still had flaws and tribulations to overcome. It's not strong women that are the problem, Disney just suck at writing.

Disney: *I like money*
Cash grabs are tight!
I imagine disney sounding like Dax Shepard in idiocracy.
Considering it cost 200 million, had reshoots to make it China Appropriate, and then got banned in China anyway, my chi is telling me even Money, is avoiding this trash heap!
Plot Holes, Fake-Feminism, Plot Holes, disregarding and insulting the source material intensely, and also Plot Holes?!
And also Fake-Feminism???
Wow, i cant believe we have ANOTHER ONE of those.
AGAIN!?!?
Again another one?!
... *but I'm too lazy to work for it.*
Is what you should have added :-D
People love animated Mulan because she started from an ordinary woman and do her best to prove herself that she's a worthy warrior just like any other, not someone with special power, not only she represent strong woman, but people can relate to her.
Nowadays people think a way to make a woman strong is by making that women gloating over her womanhood in a way.
Yea, there was more development in the old one. But there was less connections to the old traditional story in the old one also.
@@taekwontheo That is irrelevant
Pizza Time Parker also, they wanted to satisfy the Chinese market that has too big of an ego. The dragon was apparently “offensive”
@@taekwontheo This whole movie sounds like an ego trip
Pizza Time Parker yup basically. They just want to satisfy the Chinese parents.
"Mulan has a pretty emotional moment..."
*cut to Mulan's emotionless facial expression*
This was the goofiest movie I've seen in a long time. You nailed it. When she teleports behind enemy lines I was like "Wtf?". How she literally goes from being banished to "you're our leader now" in a matter of 5 seconds. What the hell is Disney thinking?
That women are always right.
I think goofy is the wrong word, cause there's no fun at all. Maybe head scratching? Or weird?
Some editor really fucked that scene up its really abrupt
@@sgtkort97 Who? I'm asking because I want to see if it was because of legit reasons or if they were brought on due their skin color or some other blue checkmark and lacked the skills for the job.
my theory is they made it bad so they have an excuse to remake the remake in 5 years for another cash grab

@@shang-hsienyang1284 hahaha well that make sense with their tanking economy lol. thanks for the update!
And they actually thank the people running the camp in the credits... So I guess Disney is openly supporting genocide, slave labor, forced sterilization involuntary organ harvesting and the rape of the prisoners wives now. Great positions for them to defend.
"The witch teams up with the bad guys... als she tells Mulan wherever she has to go to stop the bad guys and then sacrifices herself"
Wait what?
She just wants to fit in!!!
She's female. Females make no sense obviously. At least, I assume they don't, I don't actually know any.
Yeah, that made me scratch my head when I heard that.
But really though, what's the context there? What is the witch motivation? Anyone who has seen the movie can explain it? Or is really that sudden develoment?
@@blushingralseiuwu2222 What they were going for was the Witch was always rejected and see's helping the bad guys as a chance to take her place. When she see's Mulan going through the same she empathizes with her and asks her to join her. Then when Mulan gets accepted by the army she feels there is a place for her among the Kingdom and decides to help Mulan save it and because she empathized with Mulan decides to sacrifice herself to save her.
It also makes no sense why she tells Mulan the plan, she was trying to get her to join her but there's no reason for her to expose the plan.
That's a great way to show personality.
so true, they literally just destroyed the female empowerment and the drama of the first movie
"She's freaking Maybelline." Love it. Took me a second to get that though.
took me 9 months
I don't get it!!! 😭
“Wait, isn’t it impossible to run up a wall?”
“Actually, it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.”
If Drew Drechsel can do it, why can't Mulan?
Don't those caravan people in Mexico do it all the time?
Oh, right... they don't have to. BECAUSE THE WALL FELL INTO THE RIO GRANDE.
"They have people that can run up walls?"
"Sure they do."
"Why is anyone even building walls?"

@@davidanderson_surrey_bc They're related to the people in Attack on Titan

Because
Jose Juan that works

“But if they don’t live up to his expectations they get sent home”
“So wouldn’t have Mulans father just would’ve got sent home if he had gone?”
...
“Oh my god..”
Well, he would have been sent home in disgrace, and honor is absolutely everything in the movie.
Still a garbage movie.
@@zacharygilmore1075 still carries not near enough weight compared to the threat of her father's inevitable demise in battle in the original Mulan
But Mulan's father's pride would refuse to let himself quit in the 98 version. The argument at the dinner table was proof of that.
@@joshuakim5240 Well that would require actually caring about the product. Something Disney doesn't do anymore.
I heard somewhere also that, by having the "normal" sister just continue to serve her common duty, this also shows young girls that if they aren't especially gifted, they're less important. I agree with that. The sister probably shouldn't have been made...much like this movie in general

Now Mulan translates to Mary Sue in English.
Ryan has great chemistry with himself.
But at least Rey and Neo didn’t manifest any special powers until they were adults. And Anakin was already too old and nowhere near being acknowledged as the best Jedi.
Mulan seems to know about her powers her whole life and no one else seems to have these powers.
Hmmmm... who will win: the super powered woman being helped by the magic witch or an ordinary bad guy with an army?
If it's Maybelline, the idea is she's NOT born with it...
