    "...the things that hurt me the most were when people told me that I was full of myself, because the reality was that I was empty of myself." I've been battling my whole life for acceptance and value. And even as a grown man I find myself doing it. Finding the line where being a good person without sacrificing me is my goal now. 13 minutes into the conversation...

    Love this podcast, as always a beautiful educational open conversation.
    I would love to see Trevor Noah and Hasan Minhaj on your podcast. As Trevor talk openly about growing up in an abusive house hold and could bring a little bit of an African perspective into masculinity and Hasan Minhaj has been talking about his struggles with “infertility” that would be a nice conversation to hear from an (Indian) mans perspective.

      Great recommendations! We've had Hasan on our list but schedule hasn't quite worked out yet. We will definitely add Trevor Noah. Coming soon! Thanks for being here with us!

    I would say for helping with mental health stigma, as a therapist, we try to say "I have bipolar or I am experiencing anxiety" versus "they have bipolar" or " I am anxious I am mad" type of language. We are not these things. We don't give them power to overcome us or to define others. Everyone is different of course. Some who have high functioning anxiety, can say, I have a buddy on my shoulder who visits and I call them "anxiety or Tom" lol and sometimes "they work to my advantage to get things done or sometimes they interfere so I need to.. " It's all perspective and how we treat it matters too for what language we'd like to use.

    Lovely to see the love between Alyssa and Jamey. It was palpable. Alyssa was a great guest, what a powerhouse she is, you can feel her commitment to a better world. Jamey what you said at the end about how you compare yourself to Liz who talks fast and organises her words, where as you talk slower and take your time to think about what you are saying, as someone watching and listening I can adapt and feel what you have to say, which is often very moving, and Liz will be impactful in other ways, her stats are impactful and how she presents them.

    Wow!What a Deep Conversation. Once again another Eye Opener that being in the Spot Light as an Actress/Actor people forget that there is a human side, that is forgotten about.People like Allyssa Milano and the Man Enough Team plus many other people who have been on this Podcast have openly shared Trauma Experiences and are now using that to not only heal but to try and help other people who need healing.But at the same creating a Space for Respect towards All of Humanity starting at the home front.🙏❤

    The idea of intersectionality popped into my head when the conversation was brought to the little Black Girl and the point on reparations. I’d be interested in how you explore intersectionality and being man enough in future podcasts.

      It's essential that we continue to welcome in a variety of voices from different backgrounds and increase intersectionality. Check out this week's episode with Anna Malaika and MIchael Tubbs. Pretty powerful.

    Anne Wilson Schaef’s book when society becomes an addict outlines what the major 4 myths of the paradigm are such as 1 that the system is all knowing and can answer everything. 2 scarcity to make us constantly be thinking about more not now. 3 it is the only thing that exists 4 white male system is innately superior. All of these are implemented into us at such a young age that our whole live mist of our systemic struggles can be reduced to these 4 things. The way that people treat each other and how they react is all informed of how we are told we are allowed to exist , and the WMS defines that individually for every race and gender so that we all end up living on completely different planes of existence making it that much harder for us to break down their mold and dismantle this patriarchal shit

    And I’m sure that the reason you guys introduce yourself in that order is not because of any negative message it’s probably bc Justin has the biggest rep but I’m just telling you how I think some people might interpret that or the subliminal unintentional message that, that reinforces. Idk again, just a thought.

    Love the idea of introducing kids to mental health therapy early to give them tools to navigate life.

  • @MichelleEstrada
    @MichelleEstrada 2 роки тому +2

    Might not be that important but something about the fact that you guys always introduce yourself in the same order and the order is the white man, the white woman, then lastly the black man, doesn’t really sit right with me bc it’s kinda exactly what society and or patriarchy teaches us is the order of importance of the people. So I’d like to kindly suggest that you guys maybe switch it up? Or shift it to Jamey, Then Liz, then Justin. Just to really stick it to the system. Lol. 🤷🏽‍♀️anyways love you guys. Looking forward to more amazing episodes as always. ❤️

      Thank you for the feedback. It started that way because the show originally evolved out of Justin's work doing his TEDTalk, writing the Man Enough book and hosting roundtable discussions before. Liz was invited in as his co-host, as she is a true expert in this field. We can certainly consider changing it up. It definitely wasn't deliberate or meant to marginalize anyone, as you seem to understand about this group.

    I love your podcast. And I can't help but notice how over and over and over, the men are STILL out talking Liz. They don't invite her in the conversation as much as they, especially Justin, talk about their own feelings. They should know better.

      Thank you for such valuable feedback! Our team really takes this to heart, and we can assure you Jamey, Justin, and Liz have very engaged conversations on this juggle and how it plays guest to guest. We can always do better in continuing the work of creating space, and we appreciate you being here with us!

    The scarcity model is one of the 4 major myths that keeps the white male paradigm alive. The idea that we ourselves are not enough and that we don’t have enough of anything to go around to everyone.
