About in line with what I would expect on that trim. I was hoping for more due to the design. My truck is almost the identical setup with the Hemi and I average about 16-17. People too often under estimate the hit of off-road tires and gears. Mine would hit 22-23 sometimes before upgrades impacted fuel economy. The lift maters a bit more on a 1500 due to the IFS angles of the CV shaft. Great content!

@ Correct, lifting a straight axle affects one longer driveline, however IDF has two shorter axles with at least double the loss. That’s if you don’t lower the front differential or transfer case.

I'd love the heavier duty build quality and longevity of a 2500, but I really don't want the fuel economy of a 6.6 liter gas or diesel engine. Honestly I'd even take the 3.0 in a 2500 chassis to get it, but at least with a 4.0 V8 there would be a middle ground for those who need a bit more than a 1500, but not necessarily a 6.6.

I’d place money on the lower ride height, one with a lower valance air dam and low resistance rolling highway tire will add at least 1mpg to those numbers, possibly even 2mpg. I noticed on their report that they didn't actually test the sensors that compute the MPG. I plan on doing a similar test to see what the actual MPG is this weekend. The math was very off when I filled up last with the truck showing 100 miles left on the tank and when I filled it up, it still had 10 gallons in the tank. My guess is that they are using mass air flow sensors that aren't very reliable. I have watched several video's like this one and the trucks got up to 23 MPG on the highway.

On a highway cruise at 70mph it would get 22-24 mpg.
I liked the truck a lot but had traded a 2018 tuned Raptor for it, so I grew tired of how weak the Hemi felt in comparison.
22 months with the Ram and I was back in a Raptor. A 2019 this time and had the MPT 93 PRX tune loaded by the third day.
The Raptor has 4:10 gearing and at 65mph stays around 19.5-20.5 mpg.

What was the gear ratio of that Rebel most likely 3.92 which affect fuel economy as well as the offroad oriented tires. Plus that truck is still relatively new give it some time for proper break-in and fuel economy will most likely improve....Most of my Dodge/Ram trucks I have owned over the years start out with low fuel economy numbers but eventually they break-in, another thing is the longer you drive them the better the efficiency becomes if driven sanely which the majority of the press fleets trucks are abused from the onslaught which doesn't help them one bit.

1 inch lift, bigger tires, 3.92 gears, no chin spoiler, no air suspension (that option doesn't do well in our col and salty environment) all make a big difference over the other trim levels in the 1500 line up. Ram doesn't give different fuel figures for the 1500s other than the TRX. Other companies are a bit more honest. With my 2024 1500 Rebel I wish I got mileage like that 2025 Rebel. I am lucky to see 15 L per 100km, 12 is a pipe dream. Let me know if you want an apples to apples comparison, my rebel only has 8000km so it's still new. Send me the distances and speed of your route and I'll send you what I get for a similar run around the Halifax area.
I know that the other trims of the 1500 get significantly better fuel economy. A better comparison for the Rebel might be with a Tremor. Just saying.
    Great review, thanks.

I have a 2020 NBS Ram 1500 with a 3" lift and 35's. The 5.7 etorque and 3.92 gears. It struggles to hit 16 mpg on the highway at those speeds. Around town I'm usually looking at 12. I definitely would prefer to have a 6.4 powerwagon at this point for the front locker. You can't even add a front locker to a 1500 Ram. I'm getting terrible MPG anyway, might as well have a Powerwagon.

So the 5.7 doesn't have the option to save fuel at lower city speeds? 2:26 Weird, because my Rebel is always in eco mode in town (which is effectively smaller displacement), except when pulling away from a stop. The sweet spot for highway MPG is right around 108-110kph in my 23' Rebel, averaging a calculated 22-23mpg on a 400km round trip. My combined MPG is around 16.1, but it is a truck, and I didn't buy it for fuel economy. With the larger fuel tank, best to top it up when it's at half a tank, doesn't seem as painful to the wallet that way, haha....

Had a Ram 1500 extended cab 4X4 with the 3.6L. It had the tow package with a higher gear ration and on the highway up to 70 mph I could pull in excess of 24 mpg throughout hills no problem. Sure, it wasn't the Hemi nor did it have that kind of horsepower, but I also ran all-terrain tires and drove it like I just robbed a bank. Neither my previous F150 or GMC Sierra came close to the performance or fuel mileage and those were both lighter 2WD trucks.

Not as aggressive as the Goodyear that you tested. Just took a trip through the Texas Hill Country. It was combined city and highway. We were traveling 70-75 on the highway. Over the years running a construction business (and probably 20 or so different trucks) Ive found its always better to take the hit on fuel economy then to buy into the gimmicks. The difference is typically marginal in real world applications and the new tech always has problems quicker (Ive had numerous 5.3 V8s that were some of the best trucks I ever ran and as soon as AFM was introduced the durability of that engine took a nose dive)

The best I've seen in my 2025 Rebel is 18.3MPG; calculated by hand on highway drive. The RAM's software is optimistic. The closest I've seen is .2 to my hand calculation. Most of us are reporting a light throttle engine surging problem which is very noticeable. So my .02 is that a more refined tune is needed in general to address that issue and others. The 3.92 gears and 33" tires and lift there's no way this thing will get 24 MPG. My inlaws have a 2WD 2015 5.0L Coyote and I think at best its gets 22 MPG.

Most powerful?? So it's 20hp more than an 3.5EB and 40lbft shy of the 3.5EB, and it's missing 2 gears(o underwrite and one overdrive). My 3.5EB beat Alex's test empty and pulling a 40ft 12k 13' tall fifthwheel(way more wind resistance) at 105km/h over 500km in Norther Ontario. 3.55axle 33.2" tall rubber and 20" rims. I can get 9.5l/100km(24.57mpg) at 110km/h and when towing I'm only using 22-27l/100km(8.7-10.6mpg) at 105 max, locked into 8th(0.85:1). The issue with the lack of oomph and poor economy is the fact that the motor is operating BELOW the BMEP of 3600rpm(3.5EB BMEP is 2600-3500rpm). That motor can make good torque there, but it's too low for the efficiency to play out if he cut 2 gears it would be much better. A diesel(13-15l) BMEP is 1100-1400rpm and that's why then pull welland get better mileage than the older trucks did down low(older trucks needed more 1400-1700rpm)

The Rebel will be quite a bit worse MPG. Manufacturers don't have to give different ratings for different packages and rear gearing. So the gearing hurts, the tires hurt, the lift hurts. The EPA rating is for a crew, and 4x4, but it will be the normal, basic trim that gets the 24 mpg. That's just the rules the epa puts out.
