Everybody likes gold rings. I hunt gold rings in the dirt. I look for where people have been hanging out for years like parks, and I layer hunt. That means I start out with very little sensitivity and increase it over the same area and only dig mid tones. I have gotten a lot of gold rings. Try it and go back to where you have scored before and lower your sensitivity. I use a Nox 800 and hunt in sensitivity in 3 and you won't hear all that junk. Start out at 18-20 and you will hear every metal target and miss that gold ring. I used this method and now you can try it also. Love your show, but it's the power, you can run lower and make better finds. Layer Hunt. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all! Keep up the Great Work teacher of metal detecting. You get a A+

Merrill, don't ever kid yourself for one minute, NYC beaches, parks have WAY more gold, silver, jewelry, coins than any deserted abandoned old homestead in Pa. !! reason being NYC had millions more people walking, jogging, swimming, etc. dropping things. It all boils down to sheer population per square mile. More people, more dropped stuff. The amount and quality of treasures you have found are shocking.

I been detecting 7 months. I have a nice collection of gold, my best jeweler said about $1700, it has 16 decent size diamonds found in a park under the board that keeps the rocky pebbles inside. I went around the edge slanting the E600 and bam a 15 signal. Anyhoo, metal detectors who find gold must have the attitude " I will not stop till gold shows up" and dig lots of junk. Like your vids I've learned tid bits here and there. NIce gold sir!

I found three nice 14k gold rings on a freshwater beach with a Radio Shack Bounty Hunter detector in just under 35 minutes one day in 1996. I was SHAKING! lol. Two were huge and very heavy large men`s rings and one was a smaller 1/4 carat diamond ring. I also found a 14k earring and 18k gold rim glasses after the rings. I found my first gold ring in the 70s with a heavy old Whites detector...an 18k England Air Force Base ring.

Been detecting for about 15 years I believe not as much as I used (due to 2 full time jobs) never sold any of my finds, keeping them in a nice jewelry box sadly someone broke into my house and took them 😢, never to be found again.
Now I have an alarm system and hopefully I get the time and the new metal detector to start over again, I did cash a lot of change, enough to pay for my metal detector 👍, cheers from California and happy hunting.

So there I was, happily swinging my Nokta Legend over the wedding ring display at my local Zales. The detector was screaming out with incredible tones! The only thing louder was the store manager screaming “What are you doing?!!” I didn’t get a chance to pull out my shovel, but I’m guessing there’s gold targets 6 to 9” away😅. (You can all thank me later for the hot spot to check out)

I live in an area 200-300 plus miles from a saltwater beach.😒 I don't have a lot of swimming holes/lakes near me, however there are a few. I have a Nokta Makro Simplex with hard wired headphones (used to also have a White's Beach Hunter) and I have found rings and earrings in the local freshwater swimming areas along with silver, titanium and cobalt rings. Hard wire headphones are the way to go in the water, great tip Merrill.

That can go both ways. Yes keeping the gold is a good idea but it can hurt you too. You will never know what will happen to cause a visit by the police department especially with red flag laws in place. If they see all the gold then they may ask where you got it. Then they can use property value law against you. Then also report you to the IRS. Do not keep it at a bank either your asking for trouble the banks are not your friend they have to report everything to the IRS that goes into a safety deposit box now. If your going to keep it hide it!!!! Me I use it to buy new machines or put towards my other hobby.

Great video Merrill, now you have me scouting lakes with alligators, lol! I would also say never, I mean, never give up even if you follow all the logic. My best finds lately came in two totally different areas but they were beaches. A mans white gold two diamond ring with a sapphire in the middle. Early September. An art deco type old feather ring. It was in knee deep water at small beach in Dunedin Florida, probably a recent drop. Hunted for four hours, didn't find much and was about ready to head to the car. Don't give up. It rag up like 6 to 8 like junk. I see people with $1500 detectors all the time zooming past me but I am slow and steady (healthy 63 haha) for two years with my Minelab NOX 600. The second one was at one of the most hunted beaches in the world, Clearwater Beach Florida, about two feet before the wet sand ended, recent drop probably, 14k white gold with six semi-precious/gem stones, small pearl, sapphires, ruby, and some other stones. That was November 11th as targets started drying up at that famous beach. Again, I go and hunt for hours like it's the hottest place ever and sometimes nothing but that makes it even more fun when you hit one. I learned everything I know from watching mostly your videos Merrill and maybe that dude from Florida. My ring finds and others are here for proof. I am a small time dude that works full time so when I go I make the most of it. ua-cam.com/video/ZnLDDYq_55g/v-deo.html

You are right about so many different things in this video, but I'm just going to comment on a few. First you have more gold articles on that plate in ten years of detecting than I found in forty years. Living near beaches that people use and have used in the past is key. In my swing through the drained lakes in the Midwest several days ago I found six rings, five silver, one gold all but one was found at the beach. Oh, and just don't detect the beach, under docks is also a great place. The second, is now that underwater detectors are so cheap, buy one. I usually had two detectors, a land detector and an underwater detector, the first waterproof was a Garrett XL500. Your rule to detect where no one else is detecting is one I have been doing for years. I have a list of drained lakes and abandon swimming holes across the country where I visit when I'm on a trip. Excellent video and great advice. The best to you and yours from the Fiedler family, Asheville NC. .

Last ring I found was reading solid 77 which is zink most times, and I did not want to dig it, but was trying out a new coil and was testing it for accuracy, and it was a class ring. It was shallow 3" down, Eurotek pro with 5×8" dd coil. I learned my lesson, dig zinks.

Hi Merrill. I have probably averaged about 3 pieces of gold a year in dirt. This year I have decided to go for gold and spent more than half of my detecting time on the beaches ( great lakes). I also did more soccer fields. Got 18 pieces This year. 2 on soccer fields (big men's rings), 3 in dry sand and the rest in the water. Nothing beats water! Merry Christmas! How about a trip to Canada next year, you are always welcome.

Yes Merrill, I wound say, from my standpoint, from what I've been seeing on your channel, and please don't get offended, (I love your channel) finding garbage is probably around 80% of the time, and I may have rated this a bit of high, forgive Merrill. I believe that it depends on what day or location that you are metal detecting, and as the way I see it, it doesn't even phase you, you seem to stay on the trail relentlessly, I say bully! bully! you keep pushing on, and that's what it takes for all of us to achieve and to succeed at everything we do! Like the old saying, seek and you shall find, and you have found a lot of great stuff! CONGRATS on all that gold you have found! Great tips also... Thanks Merrill. Greg the Egg.

Very informative video and l think you just sold me on your book l have detected for about 9 yrs and l do it as a 2 nd hobby when l can’t go prospecting as it is always good to have a plan a and a Plan B when you have hobbies such as when there’s no water in the river, or the creeks are dry, you can always go metal detecting most of my fines have been silver since they originate in the town of Newton Iowa , which is where Maytag wash machines were manufactured and lots of people back in the day had money. Hence, I found lots of silver there and it kept me going. also the different kinds of coins that went with the Maytag washer. Once it was purchased, which told how many was made in the year it was made somewhere made of copper, brass and aluminum which I do find a lot of those. Also, we have a good Christmas and look forward to the next video out for now.👍👍
