    If your in a field where you suspect really deep targets may be found then running a light threshold is not a bad idea. As threshold will dropout when it goes over a target giving you even more depth out of the machine where you may not get an audio tone or vdi number. removing a shovel of dirt and rechecking the target may unveil something good. However as you said most people have gotten out of the practice of using the Threshold as today's machines are quite deep enough. I sill like to run it ever so faintly as it at least lets me know the machine is doing something if I'm in an open field where targets are scarce. Great Video and Finds - Thanks for the walk-through!

      I will have to read up in the manual, a little more about it, because it's something I have never used before. Next time I'm on some pasture, I'll maybe give it a try 👍. My permission is full of iron and other bits from celtic times right through to modern, so it's very busy, and depth isn't really needed too much. Thank you very much for the info mate, I really appreciate, and thank you for watching 👍 😁

    The sun is shining, birds singing, coins popping. You're right, everyone's search area is unique to them and the machine needs to be tuned accordingly. I run no discrimination, six tone, different volumes/frequency for each zone. I like the Ferro check for bottle caps.
    I love my Legend and your channel, Dan. Well done.

    Thank you for posting and explaining this. I ordered one yesterday and it will be here tomorrow. I've detected since 1973. I had narrowed it down to a Legend, Tarsacci or Detech Striker. I hated my Minelab CTX 3030. Had it 3 years. I'm glad you didn't say Knock-ta. It's NO-k-ta, with a long O (as in Yes and No). I'm going to be using the Legend at my gold mine (private property) for coins and relics. I have Minelab 1000 and 7000 for gold, but they are worthless around all the iron and junk.

    This is one of the best instructional videos I have found for the Legend. I am new this machine, and have dug more iron in a couple of trips out with it than I have with any other machine I have owned before. I hope this helps me - especially the tip about a 'blurty' signal. With a machine that struggles to identify iron, why do you reduce the Iron filter value? I also find it difficult to tell the difference between the blurty iron (at 15:57) and to my ears, the blurty coin at 22:14. I will try your settings and see if the difference is more apparent when wearing headphones. Thanks.

    Hey Dan. My Legend has arrived yesterday. As a Simplex Ultra owner, im so disappointed with these false signals. Almost impossible to hunt. Im pretty sure thats not normal and i will send it back u der guarantee next week. Every time when you hit something(not hard), it's give you a random signal. Sometimes even when you are not swinging it is doing that. No wires nearby, sensitivity not too high etc... now im feel so bad, because i sold my simplex ultra.😢

    what a much better video with great interesting information nice to see your using the LG30 as they are now coming back into stock lot of folk dont know they are 56g lighter than the standard coil and you can run them at a higher sensitivity and in depth air tests exactly the same on a range of different targets as the standard coil anyway one of your best videos and what a cracking lot of decent finds you had too well done

      Thanks mate, there isn't much settings wise that are worth updating for, unless you need bottle cap rejection or you have really hot soil and need ground suppressor. But I would advise updating just for fact that they always make tweaks and improvements to the machine and its original settings which make the machine better in general 😁👍.
      60 tone is brilliant once you let your ears tune into it. It's a little overwhelming to start with, but full of information on the targets once you know it 👍.

    I am planning to start detecting again after a 25 year break and have just bought one of these machines. I must say that it looks very complicated to the Arado that I used in the 90s which were simple but brilliant, the Arado screen consisted of ferrous and non ferrous, the Legend looks like a space ship compared to that. I just hope it doesn't take too long for me to get used to it as I am getting on a bit lol.

    • @DiggerDanMetalDetecting

    Enjoyed your video. I ordered one yesterday even though I know they will start making them soon with a different cuff, all composite shaft and LG30 coil instead of 28. How do you feel about the 28 coil? I just didn't want to wait. The Turkish rep said those who purchased the previous model (I'm getting) can order the LG30 coil and they will throw in the redesigned cuff and lighter shaft for free.

    • @DiggerDanMetalDetecting

      Thanks mate, the standard coin is still very good, but the LG30 has the upper hand, as it is better at separation and covers more area 👌.
      It is a great deal for those who have the legend already, but not so great when, like me, people have already bought the machine and then bought the LG30 too. I think they should do a deal on the LG24 for those people 👍.

      It should be a little bit more quiet than that when you use 0 ground balance. I hadn't noticed, but when I was going through those settings etc, I accidentally set ground tracking on the ground balance 😬. So when I was showing the sounds of the ground, it was actually a lot more chattery than usual because of that 🤦‍♂️.
      Definitely dig those low numbers buddy, I usually dig anything that sounds good from 16 upward. That hammered was about 18, 19 but I've had a small piece of a king Stephen hammered come up at 14.

      I could certainly go through my setup sequence on the next video for you. It's fairly simple once you have these settings saved. All I do is a noise cancel which is the first thing shown in this video. To change to M2, all you have to do is press the frequency button (bottom left) and it will cycle through them, press it until it changes to M2 👍

    When in a trashy area with alot of bottle caps, the sounds they make will be a nice sounding tone, but several more swings over it would reveal a grunt sound when the coil moves away from the target. To which I just ignore those cause it's more than likely to be a bottle cap. Coins and stuff like that at least in the US are crisp and don't have that grunt cause they don't contain iron in em. Pull tabs and beaver tails will always get you tho due it being all aluminum, if you want gold you dig those. It's simultaneously easier and difficult to identify targets in fields and parks than it is on beaches. Beaches has less stuff to dig and it's fairly straight forward what's a good sound or not, not to mention it's easier to dig provided you have the correct tools. Dirt is more compact and tough to dig so you'll be worn out quicker, but you have enough time to go over targets multiple times to hear if it's worth digging. Whereas on beaches the tide sometimes gets you if you're not fast enough. Also holes tend to pool on the beach if you dig too deep, so that makes it tough to dig in that aspect.

    Wat ya sayin Dan? I've got a legend delivered just yesterday. What do u class as mineralized ground? Some of my permissions are on a car stone outcrop but the rest are chalk and flint rich ground much your own fields. All the best

    • @DiggerDanMetalDetecting
      @DiggerDanMetalDetecting  7 місяців тому +1

      Mineralised ground is mostly full of iron and other magnetic minerals etc. You can usually tell if the ground is mineralised just from having the iron sound on and swinging over the soil. The machine will act very unstable and give lots of false signals. Unlikely to be the case here in the UK, but to overcome this, you can ground balance, use ground suppressor, and lower your sensitivity. Also try running the machine in discrimination pattern G.
      Hope that helps

    • @DiggerDanMetalDetecting
      @DiggerDanMetalDetecting  Рік тому +1

      The reason I choose G is because you won't find anything that low, but at the same time it quietens the machine down by knocking out ground noise. I'm not keen on the idea of notching anything out because I like to be able to hear everything in the ground, but the first 2 is OK. If you notch out 1 to 13, you will eliminate iron and therefore, you will not know when you've stumbled across a bust area where there has been activity. Best to keep your machine as wide open as you can mate 😁👍

    Mineralized soil will cause false signals. Are you sure your soul has no mineralization? Soil can have low mineralization, but very rarely does soil have zero mineralization.The sensitivity being set high/hot will compound the problem and cause chatter as well. I wouldn't override the machines ground balance and just set it to zero. You should always go through the ground balancing process and let the machine decide the setting. And you should re-check the ground balance every time you move to a different location. Even the same field can be different from one end to the other. Never just assume your soild has zero mineralization.
